Jay Rod linked with £12m West Brom Departure.
Tuesday, 20th Jun 2017 13:11 by Arron Sanders

Arron considers whether Jay Rodriguez's time at St Mary's and where will be his next destination, the black country or the black & white stripes.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Rodriguez is free to leave Southampton this summer and Albion are in dialogue with Saints, with an initial fee of around £12 million understood to be the asking price.

Newcastle are also said to be in the frame for the 27-year-old forward but it is believed Rodriguez is favours the prospect of signing for West Brom, due to their interest in signing him over the last two transfer windows.

The current managerial situation at saints may delay negotiations, but Albion are confident of making the former Burnley striker one of their first signings of the summer.

It will be a shame to see Rodriguez leave who before his horrific injury a few years ago, had such a bright future ahead of him.

With the added competition in the squad now though, it seems he needs to move on to the game time he needs to regain that kind of form.

Jay will be a favourite with the saints fans but now appears its time for an amicable departure in the best interests of both parties.

What do you think about Jay Rodriguez's potential departure is good or bad business for the club?

A post from the usually reliable 'Jack Schitt' at the weekend confirmed JRod would be allowed to leave in the interests of all parties. Interestingly, VVD and Bertrand less likely to go.

We will see.....

Good move for all concerned I would say. Nice lad but has never truly regained his form....

If memory serves me right JRod's form was actually very short lived prior to his ligament injury. No doubt in my mind that it's in the best interests of the player and club for him to move on, the only surprise to me is that Burnley don't appear interested.

If he wants out get rid and free up some space in the squad for another striker. Long can go as well and for my money Austin was always overhyped and must be marginal in people's minds.

With Puel gone and Pellegrino strongly linked doesn't make sense fit is to sell him. Jay played his best for us wide left in a 4-2-3-1 formation and in a team that pressed high up the pitch where his pace and strength made the difference. With the diamond and sitting deep last season and Boufal, Tadic and redmond all preferred he's missed out. A return to high press suits Jay and Shane, potentially even more than Charlie and Gabbi. He may have had enough of being overlooked by saints and not want to sign a new contract but at the very least we should keep him until January, see whether the new manager and he get on and sell for the same or more if not with the January premium
