Time For Another Win At Anfield
Wednesday, 21st Oct 2015 08:47

Wins at Anfield usually have decades in between them rather than months, but this weekend Saints will never have a better chance to make it two out of three wins against Liverpool in their once fortress.

Anfield has never been a happy hunting ground for Saints, on average we win their about once every 10 -12 years, but we go their this weekend with Liverpool at their lowest ebb in my lifetime and that could be good news for Saints.

In one respect it will be hard because it will be Jorgen Kopp's first Premier League match at home and the emotional aspect should not be discounted, but Kopp knows he has problems, not just with injury with key players out, but in terms of the make up of his squad.

He will of course start to address those in the January transfer window and when those injured return, some a lot later than sooner, but he is not a miracle worker and the reality is that at present this is the worst Liverpool squad in 50 years or more.

So Saints have a great chance to go there and take the game to them and win, at Spurs Liverpool (and spurs for that matter) were woeful and showed that defensively they are very fragile, we need to expose this and with the pace we have in our side we have every opportunity.

Perhaps our chances could be best illustrated by the contrast in the players in each squad, how many Liverpool players would get in our first team at the moment ? I'm hard pressed to think of ore than a couple and of them Nathaniel Coyne does not seem to be the player that he was last season.

In time I think Jorgen Klopp will restore Liverpool to former glory, but in the meantime we should go there with confidence as we did at Chelsea, this could be a season where the status quo changes in terms of the big clubs, it might only be brief so we should take our chance when we have it.

are you joking, Clyne is doing very well there and is a regular starter.

I am v worried about this game to be honest, the players at home for Klopps first home game, will be running their arses off. and he has had some time now to drill in some new tactics that Koeman et al won't be aware of/expecting. I fear a thrashing, but hope I am wrong.

Calm down I could be wrong but I don't think Liverhampton are capable of thrashing anyone, they are not a good side, Clyne as you mentioned has been at fault for a number of goals they've conceded, but we cant turn up with Kelvin Davis and Yoshida in the side at any prem game and expect to do well, I thought klopps first home game is a Europa league game against Kazan on Thursday, it will interesting if Kazan beat them lol I expect Saints to hit Liverhampton on the break and do well, but we cant concede two goals and expect to win, coyr

Klopp will get the best out of Lallana, Rogers never knew what to do with him. Hopefully that wont be until after the weekend.
Also, I hope Lovren is playing, it never fails to amuse me when I see him looking like a rabbit in the headlights costing them goals.

I think a lot depends on how we start. Hopefully RK will have got their heads up again. If Bertrand and Tadic (if selected) can tie Clyne up to stop him getting forward that will be significant.Similarly Cedric may need some help if they target him with Lallana.Just hope last week hasn't knocked their confidence too much.

Having spoken to some real Liverpool fans (the kind that live in Merseyside) they've not been that blown away with Clyne since his arrival. As for Lovren, I'm not sure when he's due back, but I thought he had a long time out - which is a shame.

I'm not sure if this is the best chance we've had to win at Anfield, but I do feel that by winning at Stamford Bridge we have the right to be confident. They still have their danger men and Lallana wil be well up for this one. He needs to be kept quiet. I just hope we have our regular keeper back.

I imagine Sky are only licking their lips at Klopps first home game. No point in watching the build-up. It'll all be about Liverpool or Southampton referenced for our departures to Anfield...

I think we can take Liverpool but we have to play for the full 90 + mins this time. I can see Ron adapting the same tactics that saw us beat Chelsea.

We just need to believe that we can beat them.

C'mon Saints!!

It's going to be a great game if they press high up the pitch then Mane could have a field day.

That's good to see. If there wasn't enough riding on this already if I was on the board I'd be offering a one off win bonus for this one. Financially this could be huge for Southampton if they win some US fans by beating Liverpool.

It is Nick but this is a hard one to call. It's too early to know how the Klopp / Scouser liaison will gel and if we are meeting them at the right time or even if we can recover our composure in time to get over the Leicester set-back. A bold man who predicts a Saints win this weekend.

I cannot see a win here, even allowing for a mediocre Liverpool squad. First real home game under a new manager. We will really have to be on top of our game from the first to the last whistle and no stupid errors - and tactically RK will have to get it right. Not impossible to get something and we have to give it our all - but my expectations are low.

A win though would be special - not least to not have to put up with all the plastic scouse fans where I work on a Monday morning.
