LFW Travel Guides - Millwall, The Den
Monday, 14th Oct 2013 22:20 by Clive Whittingham

QPR travel to Millwall this weekend, and TFL have responded by closing a lot of the ways you might have used to get there. Let LFW help you plot a way around the issues.

Ground Name: The Den

Capacity: 20,146

Address: Zampa Road, London, SE16 3LN

Main Phone Number: 020 7232 1222

Ticket Office: 020 7231 9999

By Car:

Always a bit difficult to write this section for games in London because, of course, we’re all coming from all over the capital. The ground is next to the A2 Old Kent Road, so if you’re coming from out of town leave the M25 at junction two and follow that into town following signs for City and Westminster.

Parking:

There are no official car parks around the ground so it’s the usual mix of street parking and businesses letting their car parks out on a matchday. Worth bearing in mind that at least once in the recent past the police have, in their wisdom, forced all QPR fans to get the train back into London Bridge and then even gone so far as putting them on the Northern Line as well regardless of whether they came by train or car leaving some with a trek back to the ground to find their car in the middle of the night.

Train:

South Bermondsey train station is seconds away from the ground, and only four minutes outside London Bridge with a train every ten minutes. There is a specified walkway from the station to the away end but expect to be held in this for some time after the match by the police until a special train is brought in for the QPR fans. A return ticket will set you back £5.60 and the last train you can get before the match is 14.40 — although if it’s full expect to be held back.

Plenty of tube and Overground closures to consider this weekend.

- No Northern Line through London Bridge, or indeed on the Charing Cross side. It’s also closed between Camden and Golders Green on the Edgware Branch, and Camden and East Finchley on the High Barnet branch.

- On the Overground there is no service between Highbury & Islington and New Cross Gate/New Cross. Replacement buses operate. There is also no service between Hackney Wick and Stratford.

- The Piccadilly Line is closed between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge.

- The Metropolitan Line is closed between Wembley Park and Northwood/Hillingdon

Coach:

Now brace yourself for this one — tickets for the official club coach from Loftus Road to the Den, a journey of ten miles, are priced at an astonishing £24 for adults, £14 for seniors and young adults and £12 for juniors. The coach leaves Rangers at 12.30. There is no LSA coach for this game.

Pubs:

We all know about the situation at Millwall by now and the usual warnings about keeping your wits about you. Most QPR fans drink around London Bridge and The Barrow Boy and Banker is always popular on Borough High Street.

Tickets:

Rangers have 2,200 seats in the upper tier and they’ve all sold out.

how much for the coach? It would cost less in a taxi

Presumably the high cost is to cover the damage anticipated when travelling to this part of the world

At least the police won't be able to put anyone on the Northern Line...

Agree with Clive re: travelling from London Bridge. From my experience of visiting the Den in March 2011, I would recommend you arrive at the ground by 14:30, at the latest, as late comers will be probably be delayed at London Bridge station by strict policing to avoid overcrowding on the train.

Yes, remember all of us having to go to Bank whether we wanted to or not, funny moment with the old bill when someone asked to leave London Bridge, and was pointed towards a ' Millwall person who was hanging upside down on security gate, 'fair enough guv, I,ll get the Bank train'
