By the sound of it is what its all about media wise.
Well, not really.
Nobody yet has explained to me satisfactorily what is a big club ow what makes a club bigger than any other.
Quite pitiful really and any lady will tell you size is debatable

Surely it's down to trophies won over time and support base.

I don't know, you tell me if you think differently

Its all in the mind of the individual. Take Sunderland and Cardiff as prime examples. Permanently bleating on about "potential", "catchment areas", "fan base" etc etc. If you listen to the average Bassey they're bigger than Barcelona.

Big is too ambiguous a word to use anyway. Should be successful

Listen, you f*cking fringe, if I throw a dog a bone, I don't want to know if it tastes good or not. You stop me again whilst I'm walking, and I'll cut your f*cking Jacobs off

I'd rather be good than big.

And that doesn't bother me to be honest. Better left to get on it quietly, rather than the noise other supporters make. The media bias used to annoy me. Couldn't give a flying f*ck now.

For me a 25K regular minimum home gate and regular European footie normally separates the likes of say Spurs over Everton.

I'd say we are on the same level as Southampton at the moment and maybe WBA.

Big clubs have big grounds that are regularly full. They don't necessarily win trophies regularly though.
We can all name the big clubs. Maybe annual turnover is a good judge. Arsenal's income dwarfs ours, for example, but what did they last win?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Spot on for the Southampton level.

But, I think that the gate is just one component in determining a big club. In a larger sense it's all of the revenue streams - including merchandise, concessions, club memberships, licensing, partnerships, web sites and all other income (TV), etc. TV money may not be a differentiator within the PL, but in a global perspective it's a factor.

While not popular here, the owner resources is also a factor. How much will an owner personally put up (or even borrow) to improve the club (mostly for player acquisitions - but it could be for facilities or strategic technical personnel).

It's the projection of power (i.e., cash) that can drive a club from a small/medium to a big club. The potential for winning is another factor, as well.

I'm not advocating that Swansea engage an owner with deep pockets - it's a quick fix, but doesn't guarantee success. The slower but steady, incrementally improving while maintaining strict fiscal discipline is a apt way to achieve. But, it's critical to increase revenue streams such as enlarging Liberty to drive the optimal gate revenue amongst other tasks. In order for Swansea City to be successful, the demand must be kept high.

Just my opinion

A big club has lots of fans. Rangers is a big club, as is Newcastle and Arsenal. Winning things is not relevant to the big club debate. Successful clubs and big clubs don't go hand in hand.
