It’s going to take a lot more than just Gatland going to improve the Welsh set up I’m sorry to say. Grass roots rugby needs to be nurtured and all age groups structured properly. Do away with the 25(?) cap rule and get rid of the WRU oldies who haven’t a clue and replace with a fit-for- purpose executive committee who are capable of seeing further than their noses. | ![](/images/avatars/8799.gif) |

Funny enough I went to watch the Wizards of Aberavon last Friday night when they played Newport, it was a decent game to be fair. The game was a Super Rugby Cymru fixture, for those that don’t know the SRC league was created last season by the WRU with the aim of developing youngsters to be able to make the step up to playing at regional level. Aberavon had a very young team which included a number of teenagers and players in their early 20’s, Newport on the other hand had a much older and bigger team which was boosted by at least 1 Dragoon first team player. If development is the name of the game, why didn’t the WRU mandate that match day squads had to have a wide mix of players for example, 3 under 20 players, 4 players aged 20 to 23 etc etc so that there was a focus on playing a developing youngsters? The WRU also cut funding to a raft of clubs so sustaining and supporting players is even harder. The WRU need to work with the regions and really focus on developing younger players. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

Garland gone on 19:47 - Feb 11 with 571 views | swancity | I was walking alongside him and I assume his wife at Rome airport on Sunday lunch time . He looked a broken man. He was clearly embarrassed and his body language said a lot. The players too seemed despondent and that change was needed. There’s a lot wrong with Welsh Rugby but he had to go. It’s gone stale and he knew that although he’s given it his best shot he was no longer the right man for the job. The support for welsh rugby is still there. An estimated 20000 in Rome. But I’d ditch the four regions so that the clubs can get full support again. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) |

It's not all his fault nowhere near, same will happen if they get the best coach in the world to come here yes he may have different tactics', but he'll still have the same pool of players and that's the WRU's fault for the lack of funding for grassroots. | ![](/images/avatars/9760.gif) |

Garland gone on 00:44 - Feb 12 with 403 views | Robbie | WRU want to get shot of another region , Scarlets or Ospreys maybe . No mention of the Blues as another option for the boot . So dependant on the daffodill wearing women and beer sales to make a profit to finance a Nations National team . Sad fact is Wales cannot anymore play at the top leagues , players are giving their all but maybe just not good enough . England select from Exeter to Newcastle and all points inbetween , we do not have that option , cannot even go to Gog Land , no teams there and cannot select players without the necessary Caps ruling . Two thousand watching The Ospreys at The Liberty , 16/17 thousand watching Gloucester . To pln the blame on Gatland is not the answer . | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
Garland gone on 06:28 - Feb 12 with 334 views | builthjack | Surprised at Gatlands record with Wales. 76 wins. 73 defeats. Very average. I thought it would be a lot better. Compared with other coaches it’s quite poor. Eddie Jones got shown the door having won 59 of his 71 games. | ![](/images/avatars/11048.gif) |
