Up Front 13:45 - Dec 23 with 1220 views | DorsetIan | We showed yesterday that when we cut out the suicidal passing we can keep a clean sheet. Martin-ball was certainly responsible for so many errors and points dropped, but maybe playing like that could have been justified if we're been more able to convert possession into goals. Now that Martin is gone and we seem more able to play with some measure of pragmatism, getting the ball into the net is still going to be our biggest issue. Armstrong, Fraser, Brereton-Diaz and Cornet don't look like to me they are now up to it at this level. Archer and Dibbling are, and we just don't know about Tall Pall. I think if he gets a goal and we work out how to feed him, he might be able to succeed but maybe not. Likewise Sullemana - is there a player in there that we haven't seen yet? But, even so, our attacking needs strengthened and re-vamping in January for us to have any chance of staying up. Anyone got any thoughts on who we might be able to get? And what about Smallbone? He was able to thread some lovely passes in the play-off games. We've not seen much of that from anyone else.

It would have been hard enough to stay up anyway but playing how we did for 16 games has probably left us with too much to do even if we are suddenly hard to beat. Martins stubbornness is going to cost us I fear. The question is can we get back up again at the first attempt.

It does seem like an impossible task, but if we were to get 9 points from the next 3 games (West Ham, Palace, Brentford), which is unlikely, but a possibility, we could have a look again and perhaps think we are back in the race.

The impression I get is that Juric will make pressing a key part of his tactics. If so, Tall Paul will yet again be surplus to requirements. I can't see him putting in a shift and chasing down opposition defenders. He's hardly Shane Long. I think it's quite likely that Juric knows a few players on the fringes of Serie A sides that could do a job for us. We'll probably bring in 1 or 2 in January that we have never heard of.

Bringing in one or two we have never heard of hasn’t really worked for us in the past few seasons.

Have we still got 2 fringe players from somewhere in Asia to come in January? Or am I dreaming that? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think Matsuki and Juan are the ones we can bring back in January as they are on loan from us. Rômulo is on loan from a Brazilian club. His loan contract in Turkey doesn't expire until June, but I guess we should take priority. We probably won't though. Maybe we could swap a couple of our current so-called strikers for him.
