Electric vehicles 10:04 - Nov 26 with 735 views | Boundy | Are they really the future? With take up of new electric vehicles being much slower than predicted and the pursuit towards cleaner alternative are we seeing a slow decline in the use of electric cars. Its been announced that Northvolt , one of the wests largest manufacturers of vehicle batteries is filing for bankruptcy due to a number of factors ,one of which being BMW cancelling an order worth up to 2 billion euros.

Until the charging infrastructure in residential areas improves or there is a removable battery charging pack that you can take into your house to charge overnight there will always be problems for some.

Morning to you sir, I have no gripe but imo eclectic vehicles are not the way forward if you want to save the planet , production costs are greater as are depreciation values over fossil fuelled cars , many other components are needed which in the main are buried in the ground etc etc. I can't understand why its been left to individuals and small companies to develop the use of hydrogen fuelled vehicles, I understand the initial costs are high but like all new technology these should drop and the technology advances. I'm still driving around in my straight 6 3.0 car and will for as as long this lot in power allow me , maybe when the Stasi impose their will on the rest of us that fossil fuelled cars disappear I'll either be dead or too old to care.

That idiot Milliband needs to understand the impact for the UK in being out of step with the rest of the market, that is we will be producing the wrong thing at the wrong time.

They gave me an electric courtesy car for the day. I told them my next appointment was near Shrewsbury. They said we had better give you a diesel instead.

They burn the batteries out, it will dramatically cut your range in only a couple of years.

In most cases the main fuse has to be upgraded to at least 80 amp 100 amp in some cases, so incoming supply cables need to be able to cope without overheating, the cables from the cut-out [main fuse] need to be upgraded to 25mm instead of the 16mm if fuse is to be 100 amp. Survey has to be done firstly in most cases obviously.

Electric vehicles on 20:06 - Nov 26 with 482 views | Luther27 | I’m sure I read somewhere that major particulate pollution comes from wood burners and not diesel vehicles. So why are we phasing them out for high cost electric vehicles especially as we don’t have the grid capacity….we shut down coal power stations and no gas fired ones to replace them etc…to provide charge if the govt targets were miraculously achieved.

Not to forget that at a certain point (maybe just when you want to sell it and get a new one) the battery will be breaking down and need a very expensive replacement. Who is going to buy a second hand car that needs a replacement engine that could cost more than the car? I'm not doubting the need to protect the planet, I don't doubt that humanity is ruining our world but this electric car stuff is just another scam.

Wood Burners are lethal, you must have an up to date Carbon Monoxide monitor with those, they should dated on the monitor itself and they normal need replacing every 7 to 10 yrs and put above head height in same room on top of a unit screwed to wall or better still the ceiling, they apply to Gas appliances as well, but don't put them in same cupboard as the boiler, I see some in airing cupboards far to often

The ZEV target was introduced by the last government under the stewardship of Rishi Sunak. The EU have their own ZEV targets which are very closely aligned with ours and both will ban the sale of ICE’s by 2035. I agree with you about China and India, if they don’t clean up their act we should look at how we trade with them.

Johnson set the 2030 target, Sunak aligned it with the EU at 2035 which sensible as it is a similar market. Starmer has gone back to 2030 which puts the UK in a difficult place. Watch out for back tracking!

I much prefer diesel to petrol. More torque, and better imo as petrol contains benzene which is carcinogenic

I hve a taxi driving mate, he had a car that had done over 500k when someone crashed into him and wrote it off. Will an electric car get 500k miles in before the battery needs replacing? What will the resale value of an electric car be when it's 7 or 8 years old and the battery is close to needing replacing? How much does it cost to replace an EV electric battery.? What are the environmental issues around EV cars? Never mind the child exploitation issues involved in mining the rare chemicsls used. Will there be enough rare chemicals to make enough EV's for everyone who needs or wants a car?

Taking into consideration all these questions and others, where is the fully absorbed CO2 cost/benefit for replacing a ICE car with a new EV?
