I think I read once that Neil Warnock does this. Perhaps not a reason for him to be our manager…..

That’s what I like about yesteryear footy. Take Steve Moran , spotted by lawrie and a great story about if he scored a hat trick Lawrie would get him some new boots. You just don’t get that anymore

I think my favourite story from that era was when McMenemy signed two times Ballon d’Or winner Kevin Keegan; they were sat in the front room of a house belonging to a friend of the Saints Chairman and all they had with them was a blank contract. They penned in a few key details as they sat and talked, Keegan then signed the contract and the finer details were added in sometime afterwards! Keegan’s agent, Harry Swales, didn’t even know anything about the meeting, he was told about it after Keegan had signed the contract!! Imagine signing Mbappe from PSG by sitting down with him in a friend’s lounge, having a nice chat, then signing him on for Saints next season - with a bank contract - and telling his entourage after the event!! As mad as it sounds today, that’s exactly what happened just over 40 years ago. If that’s how much it’s changed since the 80’s what on earth will it be like in 40 years time??
