Royal Navy 18:16 - Jun 24 with 3992 views | onehunglow | I listened to the Jeremy Vine phone in today regarding the Black Sea intimidation by Vlad and the boys. Most see it as naked bullying by mother Russia apart form one who saw it a war mongering by Boris Johnson. This waters are international and clearly marked as such. The caller was from Swansea

Well not really, Russia illegally annexed Crimea, so those waters are Ukrainian. Nice to see UK Navy pushing the boundaries. Onwards to the South China sea next

The Russians were trying to bully us, they sent ships and warplanes to try and make HMS Defender change course, they made threats to open fire. Our boys and girls stood firm though.

My point is why is it our people trust the Russians-of all people-before our own Navy.If a liet Commander Royal Navy says its international waters then it' ok by me. Why did the Russians actually fire shots? Crimea was effectively steamrollered back into mother Russia, unless you believe Vlad,,former KGB high rank.

Not really. If it turned nasty the British warship wouldn’t stand a chance in that part of the world.

They clearly did it deliberately to provoke the Russians. Very dangerous to risk the lives of our service people for a stunt. Why were the BBC and Daily Mail reporters already on board the ship ? Is it a Johnson dead cat distraction to deflect from the Indian covid wave that he himself caused ?

Royal Navy on 22:14 - Jun 24 with 2029 views | Scotia | What's been slightly missing from the news is that Defender is part of the NATO carrier strike force operating in the Med on the way to the South China Sea. She seems to have gone on a lone mission, I wonder why? It almost certainly was a proactive act by NATO that you wouldn't have seen under Trump. We were expecting exactly that reaction and Russia are clearly ruffled.

About time the Russians were ruffled, they have been doing things like this for years, Syria, Crimea and Trump and Obama let it go on . Let's hope Biden follows suit, as I said earlier time to rattle the Chinese cage.

The British vessel is a destroyer, Destroyers are relatively small, quite heavily armed and fairly quick. The Russian black sea fleet has over 40 warships plus submarines and is based at Sevastapol. The RN vessel would be target practise for the Ivans

Maybe I'm wrong, but my understanding is that NATO is stronger than Russia in every respect, and that most of the Russian surface Fleet is barely seaworthy. However, I do agree that Crimea is of immense importance to Putin, and I agree that NATO should not push them too hard. But Putin or the Chinese in the future cannot possibly be allowed carte blanche, There are certain to be some difficult years ahead.

NATO would not get involved. Putin has built up the Russian armed forces considerably since the cold war days and they are formidable now. They have superb fighter aircraft in the flanker series, far superior to anything that NATO has and they have very advanced missile technology too.

Of course they would get involved! If a NATO member is attacked, the treaty specifically says if a member is attacked, it’s classed as an attack on Nato as a whole. Russia are not “formidable” in the slightest, the man power, technology of the US is still, and alwahs will be the most powerful in the world by a country mile.

I guess you approve of imperialist Russian invading the Ukraine and adding to it's colonies rather than democracy. Funny how you know support what is probably the world's worst empire which killed tens of million of it's own citizens under stalin and invaded most of Easter Europe.

What do you mean not really? They did stand firm, they held their course and ultimately the Russians did nothing but blurt and bluster. HMS Defender continued on it's way. Or are you saying something else happened?

Russia's navy is considered the third strongest, it's main strength is it's 59 strong nuclear sub fleet. The USA is considered second behind the Chinese "Peoples Liberation Army Navy" but NATO is the strongest over all. Saying NATO wouldn't react when HMS Defender was most likely there as part of a NATO operation is just crazy and deliberately controversial. Our ship was there to ruffle a few feathers, not to start a war, it was to remind the Russians they are not in control. They banged their drum then went home. Incidentally, the Royal Navy is considered the 5th strongest in the world, Japan are 4th.

Why was our ship sent there now, and by who ? Why where journalists on board ? You dont think critically, you just run to the flag like a good dog. You are Johnsons dream voter - and he is playing you. The real name for the variant is the Johnson variant. After all, he did not put India on the red list but did put Bangladesh and Pakistan on the red list. India had higher rates. Johnson delayed deliberately and our people have suffered as a direct result. Resign.

Proves my point.#We have people, like killy, who detest the country they live in and do so in safety, free from the threat of invasion than Russia is prone to love. Would you have supported them a they rolled in tanks into Budapest, where they were simply "protecteing the people",or east Germany ;speak to anyone who has lived under mother Russia. They have always wanted Crimea back and did so. They only respect strength and power

My apologies. No i hate big nations who bully little nations. There is no place for any hijacking of any plane, at any time, anywhere. I dont support Putin or Russia at all. Its the Brexidiots - like you - who played into Russian hands, not pro EU people like me. None of the above excuses the johnson govt for putting our service men and womens lives at stake for a cheap publicity stunt.

People like me question our uk government if they do dumb ass things. People like you run to the flag, tail wagging, whatever idiotic thing the uk govt does. Johnson cynically exploits your mindset to hide his crimes and ineptitude. This was probably a distraction card, like the gun boats to threaten French fishermen on eve of recent elections. You really need to stop and think. Johnson is a crook. [Post edited 25 Jun 2021 8:42]
