Investments (Shares) on 08:52 - Apr 27 with 5892 views | Cooperman | A tale of success - I lumped in with some Santander shares when they were about £4 each and bailed out when they his £8 (I think they eventually peaked at £8.50). A tale of failure - my BA stock is plummeting like a stone and it’s unclear as to whether the airline will survive. I would never consider cutting my losses so will be in this for the long run. What none of us know today is whether the general market has bottomed out and which companies are going to come out the other side of this crisis. I would be very hesitant about putting cash into stock under current climate.

Investments (Shares) on 12:16 - Apr 27 with 5787 views | legoman | My rule of thumb - if you don't understand it don't invest in it. Many investors will say when the market is at the bottom that is the best time to invest but picking stock merely adds risk. Investment in the FTSE generally via a regular payment into a Stocks & Shares ISA reduces the risk because essentially you are backing the UK economy. Do you believe the country's economy is going to collapse? Nevertheless, investments such as these should be considered as long term (min 5 years) and don't invest what you can't afford to lose. For a level of comfort, Google FTSE performance over the last 20 years or so.

Investments (Shares) on 13:56 - Apr 27 with 5724 views | BarrySwan | My only 'almost' foray into Stocks and shares was back in the 90's. I'd read an article in the Sun Money pages about a very small company called Sleepy Kids buying the rights to Sarah Fergusons' Budgie the Helipcopter stories. The shares stood at 6p when I read the article. Knowing how sycophantic sections of the UK public can be towards the Royal family I figured that their stocks would go through the roof. I was skint as usual but expecting a very small inheritance of about £500 over the next few days which I intended in investing if it arrived in time. Meanwhile I rang up my dad who had a few stocks and shares and who also was part of a social investment club at his local rotary club who basically met up once a month for a social evening and voted on what to do with their communal shareholdings comprised of the sum that each member had to put up on joining the club which was about the £600 mark. I advised my dad to buy some of the Sleepy Kids shares if he had a few bob spare. He bought a couple of hundred pounds worth and the shares tripled the very next day and eventually went on to hit £1.20 each he cashed in at just over the pound mark as they came back down having made 17 times his original investment. My inheritance windfall came a week later with the original 6p price already at 35p or so and I decided that the moment had gone and left alone. I must confess that I was delighted for my dad but sick as a pig about missing out myself.
Investments (Shares) on 15:28 - Apr 27 with 5664 views | leighton1318 | This is a really difficult thing to do. First of all you need to call the direction of the market and then you need to make a call on the share you are considering: why do you think it’s a good thing, and what makes you think that good thing is not in the price already? The Sleepy Kids story is a good one, but that’s the exception. If it’s in the newspaper, it should be in the price. Also be aware that dealing costs (commission and bid/offer spread) can eat into profit. You can buy an index tracker fund much cheaper - so you buy a market return with no effort - all your effort needs to go into beating the market, You need to take a lot of time to test your ideas. Running a shadow portfolio for a month or so might be a good idea. The ‘Market Wizards’ books are a real insight into trading, warts and all, and a really easy, entertaining read in an interview format.

If you want to invest long term, you may be better off investing into funds and let the fund manager decide which companies to invest in. Fundsmith Equity is a good example - https://www.fundsmith.co.uk/fund-factsheet Or Blue Whale - https://bluewhale.co.uk/ PS this is not advice, just to give you an idea of how they work and there are thousands that you can choose from!

My experience of a particular tech share was an interesting one. Knew a freelance journalist who wrote articles for a magazine similar to Investors Chronicle. I asked for a tip and said that I was prepared to risk a small sum on a very speculative share. He told me about a company called Starnet Communications. They were writing software for online casinos. This was all back in the day when online betting was a relatively new phenomenon. Bought about £200 worth of the shares in January and by July they were worth about £4000. Everyday I‘d log on to see how much they‘d increased in value. Then came the day when they crashed. Such a steep fall that I thought there must have been some mistake. I was wrong. The company had been raided by the Mounties in Canada. Organised crime was involved. I did manage to sell the shares for about £ 100 a couple of weeks later.

They've been absolute dogshit and have sat on them for years, but I see they are recently involved in this potential covid vaccine so 🤞🤞🤞 They are still cheap but are on the rise - Could be one to watch.

Biotech is the hardest section to invest in, a lot of pump and dump going on Get the timing right and you can make money For example, reneuron, a stem cell company based in Bridgend , their share price doubled in march

The difference is buyers are never forced to buy, a lot of the time sellers are through stop losses, margin calls or just desperation to raise cash

I work for a big orthopaedic company so get them at 15% below market value. I'm hoping to make a killing next year. As an example ZimmerBiomet shares were trading at $160 in February they dropped to $80 on March 23rd they are back up to $114 dollars today. They are only going to go in one direction.
