Richmond Kickers Friendly Observations 18:09 - Jul 18 with 3210 viewsCaliforniaJack

Apologies for the delay in posting my observations from Saturday evening's friendly in Richmond, VA. In summary ...

1. First half was quite disjointed particularly on the right hand side of the formation. Barrow and Naughton did not link up at all well.

2. As a result of the above Andre Ayew tended to drift in from the more central strikers role to try to help out.

3. We played quite a few of the U21's first half and it was good to see them get some game time.

4. Fernandez and Van De Hoorne need to work on their communication skills - Fede kept giving the ball away too often.

5. Fulton and Fer played in midfield but there was some confusion over who was playing the defensive midfield and central midfield role between the two of them.

6. Second half much better. Leon and Cork were impressive together in midfield.

7. When Dyer came on at half time his work rate on the right wing was outstanding and he put the opposition under a lot of pressure.

8. Angel was strong at the back second half and linked up very well with Dyer.

8. McBurnie looked good again, always a willing outlet and was unlucky not to score on a handful of occasions.

9. Kingsley had a quiet game (I felt he was not at the races for both games).

10. We had quite a number of shots cleared off the line and some miss
hits, it seems more obvious that we need an experienced striker that
can put chances away.

11. Richmond Kickers were a much better team than Charlotte and theirs two wingers caused us a lot of problems with both of their goals scored on counter attacks.

Both games proved a decent work out for the Swans, with Francesco being given time to try out different formations and give the U21's some good game time.

Huge thanks to the club, management and team for being very accommodating to the US based fans and staying behind after games to chat with supporters, sign autographs and pose for pictures.

Onto the home based friendlies and hopefully some signings ...

Thanks for the feedback.
Dyer & Rangel really compliment each other and the whole is greater than the parts, that kind of relationship takes time to build, so it is not surprising about Barrow & Naughton.
The same applies to Brits & Cork who have now played together a lot so no surprise there.
It doesn't sound as if Fede is getting any better with his passing.
It is good to see the kids getting game time.
It is good

Good read. Thanks CaliforniaJack.

Btw, travelling from the west coast to east for us is Swansea to Norwich (though not atm thankfully) comprising about 600 mile round trip. That little soujourn for you is a pretty good effort tbf mate.
