I’m a Welsh speaker and can’t for the life of me understand why we can’t have bilingual constituencies - Gorllewin Abertawe Gwyr and Swansea West Gower. It’s crackers.

I genuinely get angry when things like this happen and the vast majority of non Welsh speakers get walked over. Motorway signs, information signs etc in Welsh only. The cost of sending bilingual paperwork, the cost of rebranding for the new title names in Welsh just compounds the views I have on the Senedd.

Surely this flies in the face of equal language status. It has to apply to both.

Gorllewin Abertawe Gŵyr on 01:27 - Dec 18 with 486 views | sons_of_omri | This is not a surprise in the least. Just two years ago I was waiting ion the platform in Swansea rail station and was horrified to hear a minute long announcement in welsh followed by English. Even the car park ticket machine was defaulted to Welsh - all great for foreign visitors who probably spend years learning English only to find it doesn’t count here. I’m genuinely dismayed at the small mindedness of the Cwmdaethas Yr Iaith mafia who are turning us into a backwater. This is exactly what kicked off the Ukrainian conflict - overt and unfettered nationalism from a minority - for English read Russian and for Ukrainian read Welsh. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

People always bang on about the cost of being Welsh. It is minuscule. The way I see it the Welsh traditions are the language and the English traditions are the Monarchy. They have a mutual disinterest. The issue for you is not the cost.

Only the hundreds of voice over artists who have now had to reproduce the introductory message at each department/switchboard etc , they're in for a killing if they're being paid by the letter.

Why does there need to be a major changes at “departments” and switchboards when all that is happening is the WG are changing the AM boundaries and renaming them? In a place where I used to work the bilingual telephony was voiced by a member of staff who did get any extra money and just did it as part of his job - and that was for a company employing over a thousand people. Hundreds of voice over artists…

Apart from anything else,I suggest it makes Wales rather odd ,in the grand scheme of things, It needs more than language changes It’s the content of a language that matters If you speak welsh ,then great but it does not need “ protection” like this ,. Families pass down a mother tongue. My father’s lot did. They only spoke welsh until they moved to Swansea in the forties . It was just something they were brought up with .

Have you phoned any Welsh Departments of any description ,any doctors surgery any library , travelled on any motorway in Wales , if so even you must admit that there has been a change in how one contacts a particular department , the primary message is in Welsh ( just as well be Bulgarian as I've pointed out before) before you're given the option for English , try it you may become enlightened.

Les be honest here, if it was Bulgarian it would be relevant to more people here. There needs to be a back.ash to all this but people are too afraid to voice their opinions on a public stage in case of repercussions from activity groups.

I appreciate that there is a real desire to keep the language alive , this is not a new concept by the way its been dying for centuries and yet still survives but divisive imo , historically its been in minority since the industrial age but to now have it rammed down your throat as if all life depends on it will only end in tears and have the opposite effect it was designed to have. People are beginning to get fed up with having other peoples dreams /wishes thrust upon them and this is just another one, I don't speak Welsh as I don't speak any other language other than English than by choice , my choice so why now does it now have to become all encompassing within my every day activities to now become a major part of my life.

It’s the frustration at having a language that most Welsh people don’t speak. It inhibits safety which Drakeford has rammed down our throats via 20mph….it costs to implement…but basically it’s discriminatory against non Welsh speaking Welsh people.

Not sure what the majority language of our new incomers is but I'd hazard a good guess it ain't english but even more so it ain't Welsh , how confusing . Renaming mountains hills and place names just to appease a minority isn't a good look imo.

You are correct and this is where intolerance leads. 10s of thousands of Donbas men agitated by their families objected to their children learning Ukrainian so much that perhaps 100,000 ars now either dead or seriously injured. For what exactly? I spoke to a man in Costa coffee in Newport. He spoke Welsh but rarely used it but he was happy he could. Respect where you live and your history.

Gorllewin Abertawe Gŵyr on 12:42 - Dec 18 with 178 views | Scotia | I'm not a fan of the level of support / social engineering that the Welsh language gets, the indirect costs must be substantial. But I don't have a massive problem with this it's just names for new constituencies, they had to be called something. I think Sons of Omri is highlighting the significant problem.

Another one claiming discrimination. I pay for the English monarchy. A union was formed around 1462 and UK formed in1702. We live in peace and harmony because those who a re frustrated do not "kick off". Pease respect means success and prosperity.. Wales is s actually a successful place. [Post edited 18 Dec 12:54]
