Not sure what the majority language of our new incomers is but I'd hazard a good guess it ain't english but even more so it ain't Welsh , how confusing .
Renaming mountains hills and place names just to appease a minority isn't a good look imo.

The Drakeford Legacy lives on, the cost of upgrading the signs is gonna cost millions just like those 20mph signs, just for his vanity projects using up millions that are needed everywhere in Wales apart from Cardiff who have had more than their share shamefully.

And that's coming from me who considers myself Welsh before British and I'm forever reminding people or the fact.

Those sign's aren't gonna make me anymore Welsher than I already know I am.

Complete waste of money that's needed elsewhere.

The amount of money wasted by the Welsh government since devolution, borders on criminality in office, and we still vote them in.

It’s the frustration at having a language that most Welsh people don’t speak. It inhibits safety which Drakeford has rammed down our throats via 20mph….it costs to implement…but basically it’s discriminatory against non Welsh speaking Welsh people.

Does going on holiday to Spain and having signs in Spanish inhibit safety? Apart from a few signs and the introductions to telephone calls this doesn’t really impact on day to day lives, but the Welsh Language Act does provide a safety mechanism for those who wish to or can only use Welsh.

I was speaking to someone on Monday who has an elderly family member who is suffering dementia to the extent that they can no longer communicate in English - they’ve defaulted to Welsh which was their language when they were a child. The WLA now ensures that in her dealing with the NHS and doctors and other public bodies she has the right to be dealt with in Welsh - I don’t see anything wrong with that.

Another one claiming discrimination. I pay for the English monarchy. A union was formed around 1462 and UK formed in1702. We live in peace and harmony because those who a re frustrated do not "kick off".

Pease respect means success and prosperity.. Wales is s actually a successful place.

I use the word discrimination to describe exactly what it is. Born in Wales…educated in Wales where in Welsh was not taught. My parents are English only speakers. So how do you think I feel personally being alienated by my own Govt?

Neither do I but I do have issues with for instance M4 signs in Welsh only. And I stand by the money going to be wasted in changing minor things like County signs, official headed paperwork etc. And an extra cost will be incurred. Don’t forget the 20 mph signage cost an initial £35 million. Aren’t there more important things to spend tax payers money on?

I wonder how many doctors are welsh speakers, and what if there are none available ?

I genuinely get angry when things like this happen and the vast majority of non Welsh speakers get walked over. Motorway signs, information signs etc in Welsh only. The cost of sending bilingual paperwork, the cost of rebranding for the new title names in Welsh just compounds the views I have on the Senedd.

I'm with you 100%. There are more important things to spend the money on like saving peoples lives, stopping criminals....

Why do they need to change the County, it’s my understanding there’s no change to the council boundaries etc and this only impacts on the Senedd constituencies, we didn’t have council boundary changes after the last parliamentary constituency shake up.

Official headed paper will probably have to change, but that would happen if an AM was voted out of office anyway. The cost of these changes is minimal in comparison to the £35m spent on road signs and it’s my view the 20mph limit had been handled poorly.
I also think the additional AM’s is a waste of cash as is the fact we have 22 local authorities in Wales.

As a matter of interest. If a Welsh speaker was in court in Wales in front of a jury, could they insist on the case being conducted in Welsh.

It’s all explained in the below, but Welsh and English are on an equal footing so for a Crown Court case I think they can get parts of it interpreted including the papers but not the whole case.

You would like to think, but this is Wales and we have history of voting for donkey's.

With the recent anouncment that Wales has the highest unemployment rate in the UK, you would have also thought that, changing names into welsh would be pretty low on the welsh governments list of priorities, apparently not.

English is understood by all.

Common sense should dictate all public authority discourse

But it isn’t, there are some Welsh speakers who are very uncomfortable using English as Welsh is their first language. I’m proficient in both, but I know quite a few people farmer types living in the west who aren’t.
It’s because of views like yours that the Welsh Language Act was introduced.

I have nom issues with the Welsh language whatsoever, I support the language and long may it live, but to change signage to all Welsh is going to alienate visitors who had millions to the economy, backward thinking by an out of touch archaic government.

All proposed and passed by the small time thinker that is Drakeford another of his vanity projects that is costing the Welsh tax payer millions and he's still clinging on because he's got nothing else in his life.

This is not a surprise in the least. Just two years ago I was waiting ion the platform in Swansea rail station and was horrified to hear a minute long announcement in welsh followed by English. Even the car park ticket machine was defaulted to Welsh - all great for foreign visitors who probably spend years learning English only to find it doesn’t count here.

I’m genuinely dismayed at the small mindedness of the Cwmdaethas Yr Iaith mafia who are turning us into a backwater.

This is exactly what kicked off the Ukrainian conflict - overt and unfettered nationalism from a minority - for English read Russian and for Ukrainian read Welsh.

Are you alright?

A mate of mine from over the bridge went to Pembroke on holiday in the summer.

When he came back he asked me what animal an Araf was.

He’d seen the Slow Araf signs on the road and was worried he’d hit one 🤣

Reminds my of a mate who was driving up through mid Wales and thought he was going around in circles because he kept seeing the sign gorsaf.
