As Clive has said before, we've all watched too much football for our own good (particularly at Loftus Road) and most of us aren't professional coaches or ex-players...but isn't one of the first things you're taught as a kid is to get your body over the ball if you want to keep it down? It amazes me that professional footballers who have spent their entire lives playing football don't seem to be able to do this, even occasionally!

Please hold Roy, I expect a list of similar crimes and misdemeanours to be detailed in due course.
For me, why you never keep your smallest player up on the halfway line when defending a corner I'll never know. The oppo usually have to keep two back and you've some semblance of an outlet to boot it to. While I'm at it: the inability to beat the first defender when you have a corner kick...Barton particularly adept at this!

It was ridiculously frustrating yesterday that several times players (Smyth guilty more than once) got themselves into great shooting opportunities to then wallop it immediately right over the bar.
Especially in greasy conditions like yesterday - hit it low, it can skim past a keeper, bounce out of his hands for a rebound etc...
Nope, straight into the upper tier you go.
Fk sake.

I do think Smyth should be told, no shots from outside the box, just lay it off to someone else. We did a clever corner routine that went to Smyth on edge of box who took a touch (why?) and it was then blocked. We conceded against Coventry with same situation. Smyth is not going to get you a goal from shooting from that far out, there has to be other options.

Watching from the Lower Loft you get an odd perspective when attacking the School but Ashby seemed to have attempted to strike a moving ball from about 50 yards and hit it further than he’s ever hit a ball in his life.

Like Barbet's free kicks. Just not going to happen is it?
My theory is that some coaches don't coach "the basics" because they and/or the players find it boring and/or beneath them. Goodness knows, our lot could do with some intensive shooting practice, though. Our finishing is more comical than clinical .
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Great point they are all Pros so its assumed they can shoot from day 1. We do see finishing from close range in the training videos but almost no long range shooting . Not sure who work out the keepers but the entire squad should have sessions where they shoot from outside the box in all conditions . Smyth was so off balence yesterday plus the ball was almost behind him they were never going into the net and with that Keeper Stoke have even more unlikely . We have multiple issues still from corners and free kicks that are not being resolved what happened to our specialist guy ?

Lol I know Gazza hates stats but they match the eye test, if you look at all of them we are up there for shots, shots on goal, inside and outside of the box, on target etc. But they are saveable or blocked. What also correlates between the stats and eye test is that we are amongst the lowest for tackles, interceptions and yellow cards. But highest for clearances, headed clearances, middling for saves etc. Defending from the front and in midfield and scoring goals are the problem

Like I said in the match thread, Smyth should be fined every time he attempts a shot
