Russia invade Ukraine 14:17 - Dec 23 with 189714 viewsFlynnidine_Zidownes

Discuss.

Also why is Putin always described in the media as this rugged strongman? He’s barely five foot tall with his high heels on.

But that’s another debate.

This is a great post and very true. Putin also want's the Ukraine as a kind of no mans land buffer between Russia and NATO. He doesn't want the Ukraine for it's resources as Russia has enough of it's own and is a basket case financially. Unfortunately, I think the Ukraine will be destroyed in the process. Putin will get his way, he always does.

Putin doesn't want Ukraine's (rich) resources because Russia has enough of it's own and is a basket case financially...seriously?

So if I had 10 billion in gold out my shed and my neighbour had another 5 billion, I wouldn't want his gold even though I have debts of 14 billion? I thought I'd keep it simple for you.

Of course Putin wants Ukraine's resources, he's not doing all this and will then just ignore the wealth on his doorstep.

Putin always gets his way? We'll see. He's not exactly getting his way right now though, his army is making small progress but getting a right hiding in some places and his economy is tanking. A rouble is currently worth less than monopoly money, then there's food shortages and inflation,

Germany was vetoing some EU proposals and NATO responses until, as you say, the shame set in.

We have many illegal immigrants yet we don't just open our gates to Ukraine's victims of war, it makes no sense to me.

That is about our response to refugees, not our overall effort which had been more than the EU had done. As I have said, I agree we should have done much more for refugees and we should be giving them special dispensation to come here for as long as their country is under siege.

The problem is, we've been allowing far to many illegal immigrants into (what is a relatively small country) for many years.

Sadly, now that there are genuine refugees from the Ukraine, we're struggling to offer them as much support as we'd like, and why are we offering them a 3 year visa, I'm assuming it's because we are hoping that the war will be over by then, that doesn't seem to be happening to refugees from other countries, where we give indefinite right to remain.

I don’t think the poor handling of illegal immigration should be used to justify not responding to a humanitarian crisis.

It’s letting governments of the hook for for two poor pieces of work.

Tend to agree with this.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I'm not trying to justify anything, it is what it is, and the British government has responded as good, if not better than most other countries, of course, there will be arguments that we could do more, there always will be no matter what we do.

Going back to my initial point, which I stand by, we have allowed to many illegal immigrants to remain in this country, and this will certainly affect our ability to give as much help to future genuine refugees as we'd wish to do.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying we’re full but there’s definitely pressure on services.

I’d say that’s more down to a decade or so of austerity than illegal immigrants.

We've responded better in terms of sanctions, sending materiel and other crucial supplies to Ukraine but as for the refugees, we are well down on that list.

We should be doing better and not just talking about doing better or making excuses.

I didn't say we are full, but we are coming very close to being full..

Maybe a combination of austerity and illegal immigration, seems we can halt one, but we can't halt the other.

"It is a disaster for the USA because everybody can see how the Ukrainians have been used in order to suck Russia into this disastrous action (which will cost them dearly) and they will no longer believe any American President's empty promises. "

That may be true of world leaders, but not the public, who are fed a diet of lies every day.

Nobody is talking about the repercussions of this military action and the world's responses.
The aim of the UN Agendas and the WEF is to make energy too expensive for the poor, especially for mobility purposes.
Well this will advance that cause a lot as the world faces massive inflation on top of the inflation that was caused by COVID.
There are dark times ahead.

We are already seeing the repercussions, the price rises. it's not just fuel, gas and electricity that's going up so this mobility stuff, are they going to price us out of heating our homes and buying food too?

When we can't afford cars because fuel is too expensive, what happens to the car industry worldwide? What about all those jobs?

If what you say is true why have the UAE stepped up to pump more oil to help try to stop prices rising. Whether it works or not we'll have to wait and see.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Why wouldn't the UAE pump more at 120 dollars a barrel.
Just because the long term aims of the WEF are for us to own nothing and like it, their words by the way, doesn't stop their members making the most of the market situation to make a few more billions.
For the last couple of years the green reset people have all been saying we should leave the oil in the ground, with no concept of what it really means for society.

Rising oil and gas prices, and war in Europe are arguments for renewable local energy, not against.

It also shows the folly of thr green brigade we should be developing our oil and gas resources as well as using the UK's coal reserves to generate electricity instead of Russian gas.

Russia has some of the world's greatest resources and they can't sell it fast enough. You need investment to exploit resources and the Ukraine is a basket case financially. Empires are expensive to maintain , as this country found out.

The Russian army is gaining ground slowly and will eventually prevail

We should have gone all in on Nuclear years ago when it was proven to be a safe, reliable technology. The only thing we should need oil for is for petrol. Gas could have been phased out. Everything else could have been electric. As for disposal of waste, there's plenty of remote islands with granite bedrock we could tunnel into for storage.

Until fusion is cracked, nothing else even comes close to meeting our needs.

There's a time bomb with nuclear waste. Nuclear is fine until something goes wrong, low probability but massive impact.
