Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 GAME ON ! on 21:50 - Sep 16 by Dr_Parnassus | If people make rational points then that’s fine by me whether I agree or not. When people are making lame excuses then no, it’s not something I give much time to. “He’s a new manager”… “he’s brought in new players”. Yeah all new managers are new, all new managers bring in new players. They kind of go hand in hand. |
You’ve never once accepted a rational point unless it aligns with your thoughts. Anything out of sync with you is wrong according to you because you see it differently
| This is Patches O'Houlihan saying "Take care of your balls, and they'll take care of you." |

Can you give me an example? When I disagree with something I always explain why. In this case, using an excuse that a new manager is “new”, and the new manager has new players is not a rational excuse as to why we can’t be performing well approaching his 10th game. All new managers a new. All new managers bring in new players. People seem to be making the most ridiculous points and then blaming me for disagreeing. I mean, come on now.

Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 AFTERMATH on 21:47 - Sep 16 by Dr_Parnassus | That’s because people are using excuses that is no different to what our other previous managers were subjected to. It’s only natural to make the comparison to show it shouldn’t be an issue. That’s why it’s important to stop using these kinds of excuses. Other managers have overcome it so there isn’t any reason Martin shouldn’t be able to also. Unless we are of course we are saying that he isn’t as good as other ones we have had so we need to give him a bit more leeway in all departments. But I would suggest that is quite patronising. I would prefer to think we have a manager in at least on par with the others we have had, meaning we should be treating them the same, not making up excuses for one that didn’t bother others. In terms of Cooper, he tends to be brought up by those wishing to rubbish our last two years to try and make a case that this season is better. Again that lack of any sense will usually see someone come on and defend last years record equalling season. If you want to show how great this season is, then use examples from this season, but the problem is that there aren’t very many… hence why the ex manager (who still seems contracted to us) is bizarrely getting slated. Nothing to do with sniping. For example if someone says ''We are already having more shots this season than we are getting under Cooper''. I know for a fact that is false. Do I join in with the myth and say ''Yeah, how good we are playing at the moment! Such an attacking force now''. People seem annoyed to be given a dash of reality to their completely inaccurate posts. ''We aren't winning after approaching his 10th game because he is a new manager and has signed new players''. Am I really supposed to reply and agree to that as opposed to pointing out the obvious? Can't do it sorry.

Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 TEAMS on 16:52 - Sep 16 by Kilkennyjack | The Bristol City goal was a month ago. I never said he should be dropped. But on reflection you are probably correct. I am amazed at your Michu comparison. 20 to 30 goals after not managing a shot against an average Millwall. I hope you are right. The law of averages says you must be right once i guess….? But its just a wish, there is no basis of valid judgement or assessment. Still twp mind …. 🤡 |
You weren’t at the game then, he had one possibly two saved by the keeper. His shots are more often on target than not and he made the Bristol city goal all by himself. I’d challenge you to find any other striker in the championship who would have scored that goal. He’s a rare talent. We were being dry humped by Stoke, he came on - he scored. Bristol City may have been a month ago but you seem to forget the fact that we’ve had two weeks off for the international break. Are you blaming him for not scoring when we haven’t been playing??That makes your comment seem almost overtly negative in an Andy Cole style. By the way Obafemi’s chance he didn’t make for himself - Walsh threaded through a beauty of a pass - he stepped inside well to give himself the shot and I reckon if he hadn’t tried to side foot it he’d have scored (I think his reaction said it all afterwards). Nice to see you’re learning from your master . Keep up the good work

Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 AFTERMATH on 18:09 - Sep 16 by BillyChong | Hamer started hoofing it at one point last night which isn’t the Swansea way I remember. I think the problem with the wing backs is how our play limits their space. We pass short balls to them by which point they are outnumbered by defenders and limited to the touchline/byline. |
The wingbacks need front foot ball. Bidwell has been criticized but he’s hardly had a ball to run on to. The last time that happened I think he crossed in the Stoke game and it resulted in a goal. Walsh may just solve this problem- diagonals in between their full back and centre halves will allow Bidwell and especially Laird to get in behind and cross for the speedy Obafemi and Piroe . I was a bit downbeat coming out of the stadium however when I looked at the extended highlights I could see a big improvement, especially when Walsh came on. I pray he stays fit - could be a massively creative player this season for us. There’s a lot to be optimistic about, these players aren’t even in their stride yet. Lots of good games to come I’m sure.

Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 AFTERMATH on 18:33 - Sep 16 by vetchonian | The "SWansea Way" was not all about the style of play it was how we as club did things. Yes it was about playing football but that style changed even under Martinez, his mantra was to play it on the deck out form the back but get the ball forwards quickly, ithe way it was done changed as players like Rangel arrived,Sousa beefed us up defensively then Brendan introduced a more possesion based style and Luadrup reverted to a style more akin to Robertos about getting the ball forwards quickly and with a narrower approach so to say there has been a "defined" Swansea way of playing is legend and myth the "Swansea WAy" referred to how we selected players, our wage structure and that we wanted to play football |
You’re half right - I agree about the general “ethos” - buy cheap good quality players whose personalities fit with the club but Huw stated that he wanted good quality possession based attacking football - which we had under all of our managers Martinez to Laudrup (Sousa didn’t really have the players but he added steel) . After Laudrup we went backwards football wise. Cooper gave a good interview but it seems if he promised the style of football those men gave us Pre Monk then he definitely failed to deliver possession based ATTACKING football. At least Martin is trying his damndest to do that. Give him a break FFS

Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 GAME ON ! on 18:38 - Sep 16 by vetchonian | I do understand that MArtin had no preseason and now people say he needs time, it has also been said somewhere in Martins defence we have yet to get the new manager bounce. SO here is a scenario what happens when a manager is parachuted into a club mid season or whenever following the sacking of the previous manager and they get that bounce straight away no preseason no two weeks of working with the team? |
Just because some managers get the bounce, doesn't mean we should panic if ours doesn't mun. Same as just because some managers dont need time, as they start off great, doesn't mean we should never give any manager time. It's just ridiculous to think such things. [Post edited 17 Sep 2021 9:33]

Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 AFTERMATH on 21:40 - Sep 16 by Fireboy2 | When anyone comes on and to defend RM someone has to come on to compare him to cooper, whatever he did has gone, long gone, why can't we just get behind RM instead of sniping at each other? As most of you lot know I live over 250 miles away, me and the eldest can't make many home games and we try our hardest to get to as many aways as possible, when we do go we go to support our team no matter who is in charge, after the pne game we were so frustrated at how poor we were but after hearing RMs explanation we understood why we were so s@#$, I trust this guy and I feel that he's a honest man who is only going to give his best, so let's give the guy a chance please people. Btw I think we will hammer someone very soon and it could be this saturday COYJB 🦢 |

“Time” for what? Has anyone suggested we sack him yet? I think everyone is giving him time and hoping he turns this mess around. What they aren’t giving him time for however is critiquing performances and results. Rightly so of course, like any other manager he will be judged by what he does, not what he may do.

Innit. The poor sod has come into the club where the players are unfit, several to bring in, several to ship out. Then Covid - a loss of 4 players and no training ground work. When a manager comes in mid season the players automatically get a lift - a clean slate for all , a fresh start , fresh ideas and so on. They would already be massively into their fitness groove and already atuned to EACH OTHER. Asking for a new manager bounce in the circumstances in which he arrived at the club is akin to throwing a ball onto quicksand and expecting a bounce. A very poor paradigm. Give the man a break!!!!

Pre season was just three weeks old when he arrived, if he didn’t think the players did sufficient fitness in that three weeks then he has had 7 to fix that since, including a 2 week international break. It’s a nothing excuse. Every manager brings in players and ships players out. It’s part and parcel of being a new manager and not unique to this season. It’s a nothing excuse.

Exactly. Bounce means that a team who were underachieving get's a boost from the newmanager. Bounce doesn't happen with an overachieving team. It's just impossible.

In what context? Time for what? In some instances I have said he deserves time (not get sacked now), in other instances I have said he does not deserve all this time (to be critiqued on performance). So it depends what context you are talking about before selecting one of my quotes devoid of that context. Again, get it all off your chest my boy. It won’t be helping your viewpoint though…
