Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 GAME ON ! on 13:15 - Sep 16 by Brynmill_Jack | The fatigue factor is overlooked to be fair. The sensible move if Bidwell was tired. Seems odd though as we’ve only recently come of the international break but they’ve had no pre season so that could be a contributory factor. |
I don't necessarily think a shufle with like for like players such as Bidwell is simply because he is tired. Maybe he wasn't specifically tired, but there may have been evidence from previous matches or the fitness data they use, that Bidwell isn't great in his 3rd match of the week for instance. That would give the manger the choice whether to drop him down to the bench for the 3rd game (Luton), or do it in the 2nd game (Millwall) to reduce fatigue before it happens. No idea if that's what is happening, but does that make sense? It does to me haha.

Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 AFTERMATH on 13:17 - Sep 16 by Dr_Parnassus | As do you, of course. However where yours is backed by hope and faith, mine is backed by documented fact and common sense. Again, there are no mitigating circumstances that a manager can’t get decent results from a side he has spent millions upon millions upon millions on, approaching his 10th game in charge. Some want to use excuses to not face up to the fact it’s not good enough, others have a more realistic approach and are already discussing where he is tactically failing. Where did I say the club is going backwards? Where did I say the manager was the wrong choice? You can’t continue to lie about people. You should stop. |
There are no documented facts, as each manager's situation is different. You are just clutching at straws to try and be right.

Of course there are documented facts. Every manager has excuses to not get results. Cooper’s was changing the style, losing two key players from the season before, having to teach new players his style and integrating them into the side. That’s football. You get on with it.

Cooper's wasn't meant to be changing the style. He was meant to be playing the same style. That's the remit of the club. Cooper decided to change the style and now we have to work extra hard to change it back again.

Where do you see this remit? Any link? Cooper clearly wanted to change the style to a more effective one from Potter. Which is did, successfully. There were plenty of excuses for not getting results there… none were needed though. Most of the players on the pitch didn’t play under Cooper, seems a strange thing to think we have to work extra hard to get new players that were brought in from passing teams… to pass the ball. Sounds like another excuse to me.

It's clear rom all accounts that this club want to play "The Swansea Way". That's not Cooperball and I'm pretty sure Cooper didn't tell them he was going to play that way when they gave him the job.

Yeah we clearly need a proper, pacy WB for that position, but doesn't look like it's going to happen until January now. Unless Scott has something up his sleeve from the free agent market.

Right so it was just your interpretation and a guess then. Again, Cooper changed the style to what he felt would be more effective (he was correct) whether you think he should or not is irrelevant. When he took over he changed the style and lost two key players from the season before, plus had to blood all the new signings despite only being given a tiny amount to spend. He didn’t need to use those excuses because he got the team performing well despite all those excuses he could have used.

There are no excuses and no excuses needed for some fans. They can see that there is work being done and still needs to be done. Martin is doing a decent job IMO so far and does not need to give me "excuses". The ones looking for "excuses" are people like you.

There is always work being done, and always more work to do. That’s management. Bob Bradley said he wasn’t given enough time too. What excuses am I looking for? My whole point is that there shouldn’t be any.

Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 TEAMS on 08:47 - Sep 16 by Brynmill_Jack | He is everything we’ve lacked in a striker since the Michu days - strong direct and his first instinct is to shoot. Give him supply and he’ll hit 20 to 30 goals no problem (obviously if he stays fit ). Surely it makes sense to play Obafemi deeper as he can utilise his pace then - if he’s playing as the line leader he can’t ?? |
The Bristol City goal was a month ago. I never said he should be dropped. But on reflection you are probably correct. I am amazed at your Michu comparison. 20 to 30 goals after not managing a shot against an average Millwall. I hope you are right. The law of averages says you must be right once i guess….? But its just a wish, there is no basis of valid judgement or assessment. Still twp mind …. 🤡

Hamer started hoofing it at one point last night which isn’t the Swansea way I remember. I think the problem with the wing backs is how our play limits their space. We pass short balls to them by which point they are outnumbered by defenders and limited to the touchline/byline.

The "SWansea Way" was not all about the style of play it was how we as club did things. Yes it was about playing football but that style changed even under Martinez, his mantra was to play it on the deck out form the back but get the ball forwards quickly, ithe way it was done changed as players like Rangel arrived,Sousa beefed us up defensively then Brendan introduced a more possesion based style and Luadrup reverted to a style more akin to Robertos about getting the ball forwards quickly and with a narrower approach so to say there has been a "defined" Swansea way of playing is legend and myth the "Swansea WAy" referred to how we selected players, our wage structure and that we wanted to play football

Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 GAME ON ! on 08:57 - Sep 16 by jackrmee | But that's exactly what he's been asked to do. RM has come out and said that this season is not about promotion. It's simply about getting the identity back and learning. Next season we can think about league position. Results will come with practice. There is a lot of work still to be done. Fitness and stamina needs to improve a lot. Players' movement and positioning in attacking moves needs work. Defensively seems pretty good. But the tactics still need work. People say it's not a big change from Copper, but it is. The defensive shape is much different. 2 CBs are playing very wide and like fullbacks. Downes is so deep he is in CB position half the time, so it looks like 4 at the back. WBs have a different job. LWB is often the highest man up the pitch and playing on the shoulder waiting or a ball over the top, RWB comes deeper for the ball. That's not working especially well at the moment, so will need some work. I think RM wants Oba and Piroe together, but not quite sure how to do that yet. Walsh looked decent last night. How does he fit him in with Ntcham/Oba/Piroe. Pato will lose that place by the look of it, but we have a lot of decent plyers fit now. Not an easy job for the manager to get things right straight away. A lot of thinking and work on the training pitch needed. It's especially hard in this division, as RM has already stated, with 2 games a week, they don't get chance to practice what they have learned in the video room. Time. That is what he needs. Such a shame that so many fans are unwilling to give him that. |
I do understand that MArtin had no preseason and now people say he needs time, it has also been said somewhere in Martins defence we have yet to get the new manager bounce. SO here is a scenario what happens when a manager is parachuted into a club mid season or whenever following the sacking of the previous manager and they get that bounce straight away no preseason no two weeks of working with the team?

Not only have we got a new manager, but we got a wack of players new to the club, that's not like a manager coming in through the season to a club where the squad is assembled and used to the club. Results will improve as the team improves and everyone is more used to each other.

He just doesn't have the pace to suit the way we're trying to play. In previous seasons pace wasn't all that important. We got to the final third with all the alacrity of an asthmatic ant with some heavy shopping and he was fine with that. Not so much this year. I like JB but he's an area we could clearly improve.

Same amount as when Cooper came in, 7 new and 4 old making up his XI. It’s just excuses. It’s really weird the lengths people are going to in order to avoid critiquing the state of play.

That’s because people are using excuses that is no different to what our other previous managers were subjected to. It’s only natural to make the comparison to show it shouldn’t be an issue. That’s why it’s important to stop using these kinds of excuses. Other managers have overcome it so there isn’t any reason Martin shouldn’t be able to also. Unless we are of course we are saying that he isn’t as good as other ones we have had so we need to give him a bit more leeway in all departments. But I would suggest that is quite patronising. I would prefer to think we have a manager in at least on par with the others we have had, meaning we should be treating them the same, not making up excuses for one that didn’t bother others. In terms of Cooper, he tends to be brought up by those wishing to rubbish our last two years to try and make a case that this season is better. Again that lack of any sense will usually see someone come on and defend last years record equalling season. If you want to show how great this season is, then use examples from this season, but the problem is that there aren’t very many… hence why the ex manager (who still seems contracted to us) is bizarrely getting slated. If people make rational points then that’s fine by me whether I agree or not. When people are making lame excuses then no, it’s not something I give much time to. “He’s a new manager”… “he’s brought in new players”. Yeah all new managers are new, all new managers bring in new players. They kind of go hand in hand.
