We are still in the mix. We have the players available to us that can maintain our form and league position.
In the bigger scheme of things, this is the best season (financially) in the history of the club and we are rapidly becoming a force to contend with in League One. Becoming an 'established' League One side was the top priority for KH and he is some way to ensuring that's what we are.
Selling Matt Done is just another stepping stone on the way to greater success.
Slowly but surely we are shaking off all the history of being 'rubbing rags' and '3 free points' for everyone else.

In truth, i don't think we would have finished above Sheff U without this signing. They are absolutely flying and are finalky out of the Carling.
In League terms i hope it knackers them as team spirit is broken, formations altered.

Great deal for us and for Matty.
The second time that we've sold him to a Yorkshire club that's been prepared to pay cash; both occassions have left the club better off.
16 months left on a deal is no time; we would have offered an extension and for whatever reason that wasn't signed. You can't blame anyone who betters their wages or career.
Time will tell who is available; expect to see the loan market used alongside the development of youth. Our Summer recruitment plans will be known; please keep them off here.
I expect young striker Bell will get his squad chance and big Calvin Andrew to have more game time; it's another broken toy up front and our record of fixing and developing players continues to grow. |  |

Yes but we already had the other players here AND Matty Done. Now he has gone and if our remaining players are not qute up to Done's standard, then the best we can hope for is someone on loan. But I was quite proud of the fact that we had no loan players once Logan and O'Connel had returned to their clubs. Loanees are building foundations on sand. This is a setback imo.
BUT I am not having a go at the club or Matt. I am just so disappointed. Just to the end of the season, that's all.
Remember we are lucky some of our other stars haven't gone too; but brace yourselves for summer if they continue to show promise. |  |

Matty Done is a defenders nightmare. He is quick, knows where the goal is and never knows when to stop chasing, harrying and getting stuck in.
Fantastic player. I wish him all the best. We've now sold him twice - to you and the Oakwell lot.

I'm pissed off. This is the first time we've sold a player when were in such a financial position where we could tell the asking club to eff off (unless it was a ludicrous amount) and focus on getting into the playoffs. We absolutely didn't need to sell. Matt Done is the kind of player and person who would have still give 110% even if his head had been turned (which it seems like it has already a few times this month without affecting his performance. We've effectively pissed away our chances of promotion with this sale, no matter how slim they were to begin with. Unless the fee is 800k minimum then I'm absolutely and well and truly pissed off. |  | | |

Thanks for the reply lads. Interesting to hear you speak about Done like that. Barnsley fans seem to think he was awful when he played for them. However their knowledge of football is questionable as they also thought Campbell Ryce was awful.. As for the transfer fee your guess is as good as mine. Work rate wise, there isn't a player in the squad that holds a candle to Matt Done, he's become the integral player in the team, it is however, a chance for RNL and Brandy to show what they can do in the central role up front. Hill talking up Bunney, this lad needs a loan move desperately, he shouldn't be talked in regards to the first team, talk about trying to make the best of what you've got. Done will be massively missed, we can convince ourselves it's the right deal for the club, will always be a selling club etc etc, but this is awful news for the team. Hill must be absolutely gutted, once more the club sells their prized asset, with the club in a very good financial state, some things dont change, and other clubs will ultimately know this, a black day in the season. |  |

This thread has backed up my thoughts. The people of Rochdale are well and truly deluded.
I go to watch my team to win. I don't go for 'stability and establishment' and all that jazz. That I just expect. I don't want to hear 'we are a league two club in league one' all the time. You go out there and compete with whoever is put in front of you. It's a game of football not a game of poker. If you are good enough you will win. It's not a gamble, it's all about ability.
Rochdale at present have the ability. The ability to compete for the playoffs. We all know it, as deluded as you are we all know that this current team is capable of challenging. We have not been played off the park once this season, when we have been beat it's more often than not Dale who have suffered from a bad day at the office than Dale getting battered by the sheer class of the opponent. So to me that indicates we are good enough, nobody can deny it.
So...why sell your best player (or one of) to a club one point above you in the league? Why would you do that? You do that when you are nothing but a door mat to 'big clubs'.
I don't want hear the 'player will be unsettled, his head has been turned so let's cash in' all that is shite. He is employed by Rochdale Football Club and has a duty in his contract to carry out his job to the best of his ability which so happens to be football. If we rejected the bid and his form significantly dipped. Then that is an example of how contracts mean nothing, and players rule the roost. But as a fan, I would much rather see that than see us cash in yet again. It's boring, predictable and leaves me wondering why I bother. The club clearly keep harping on about how we are in the black and not the red, and this week we 'did not need to sell.'
If you can't back that up then don't bother keep telling us. I don't care about how we are securing the future of the club for our children to still have a team to support. You live for the moment and the day as a fan. And as a fan I look at the table and I see that we have a fighting chance of playing in the championship next season. So to me, you make sure you give it your best shot! If you fall short, unlucky. But thanks for the effort.
People care too much about financial stability instead of entertainment. I pay to be entertained, to see us win. I don't walk to Spotland thinking 'hey if Matty Done scores a brace today his value will go up and that means Rochdale can sell him for more!'. I walk to the ground to see us win 3 points then walk home and check the league table. Am I the abnormal one here?
Too many of you are brainwashed by Keith Hill and his financial tripe. I am sick of hearing it. Yes it's great we have cash in the bank don't get me wrong. But it's also great to think your club want to be as successful as possible. The latter I don't believe is true. Rochdale this season will happily finish mid-table. A fantastic achievement don't get me wrong but in typical Rochdale way the fans with the same mind set as me will think 'remember that season when we could of got into the playoffs but we sold Matty Done and he scored the winner for Sheff United to clinch 6th spot. That was a good season wasn't it!'
You don't get more fans by continuously selling your best players. Yes it improves the bank balance, but so does arses on seats. With this 'lucky to be in league one, punching above our weight, league two club' mentality, the fans will forever be a distant dream. | | | |

We all know if the deal suits the club Hilly would never stand in the way of what will be a good deal for the lad.
