Quite embarrassing that they have implemented this before us given their lack of funds

That might be because they dont go on sale until tomorrow.

Whilst it probably won't be needed for the remainder of this season, it's time to start getting ready for next season. Barring a disaster, we'll be in L1 next year and as it currently looks, we could be facing all ticket games against Oldham, Bury, Sheff Utd, PNE, Blackpool and Leeds at a push.

Run a pre-season special where its incredibly cheap to get into a particular friendly if you buy tickets online so the process can be trialled by both the club and the fans.

Websites strewn with spelling mistakes and "404 page not found" pages won't fill most with confidence when submitting their card details. Not hard to put a page up to say "not on sale yet blah blah" or not put a ticket button online until it's actually active.

Anyway. Still pretty shit that they've taken the initiative to put something in place before us.

It's pretty obvious that when we FINALLY launch on-line ticketing, there will be insane booking fees and probably higher prices so it doesn't have a chance of being a success. With a proper marketing campaign, group/family tickets and other promotions, It would be a huge success and also help the club know how many programmes/pies etc to prepare. This is all 1997 stuff and pretty pathetic that we still aren't doing it.

I guess our No 1 aim with online ticketing is to make it much easier for the casual Dale fan to pick tickets up.
One problem I can think of though is that it can make a mockery of "all ticket" ruling (which is itself flawed).
Example: IF we play leeds at home next season they will most certainly sell all of the Willbutts lane. Joe blogs the leeds fan is then able to register with RAFC online ticketing and buy into the home ends. He could of course be normal and just enjoy the game. Or he could buy 10 tickets for him and his fooligan mates for a scrap.

How to stop this?

Other clubs have loyalty schemes. X amount of points gained for each match etc. tickets are released in waves and this reduces the likelihood of away fans ending up in the wrong place.
That idea wouldn't work all to well with a completely virgin online ticket system and in a ground which let's face it pretty much never sells out.

I've been in Blackburn Rover's & Burnley's respective home ends on out of season matches plus think most the Leeds lot are more friendly than them lot from Biffoland it says it all when they use our town to pre-match drink before the likes of Blackburn, Bolton, Wigan etc i know Leeds earned themselves a bad reputation in the past but their fans don't live in the past like the Biffo's or Wendy's

Thought the Coventry collections window was a good idea. Two windows by surname (A-M & N-Z); quick and efficient.

Online ticketing is a basic in a 21st century sporting environment; I assume if Hornets have got there it they have done it with fans/volunteers and that the motivation is data capture and cost saving (since they, like we never sell out Spotland)

Quite how a full time professional club cannot do it is astounding. The follow up commercial opportunity once you have someone's data and they express interest in hearing from you is huge.

To me the cost of purchasing a ticket online should involve no extra cost if collecting your own ticket from the venue. If however, the ticket(s) are sent out, then the cost to send to an address, and no more , should be added to the cost.

Really needs to happen to bring the club up to the 21st Century, from, where they are at the moment in the 1960s.

hmmmm

Perhaps this could be something explored and implemented by the "new commercial manager"?

The online ticketing could have an over all sponsorship with additional sponsorship for specific matches (on line exposure) inclusive in any sponsorship a mention in the match programme and tannoy on match days.

Just a thought.

The monies need not be out of reach for small independent businesses (those involved with an online presence can have automatic links to their own websites if they haven't got one why can the club not create one need only be a page and included in the cost.)
Hopefully it could be worked out in such a way that wouldn't conflict with the matchday programme revenues

It can't be that hard to put an extra page say that's the way they go about advertising online ticketing with sponsors in TVOS
