Dale Happy to sign Gilmour Friday, 9th Jun 2023 15:10 by AtThePeake Rochdale have today confirmed their first signing of the Jim McNulty era with the arrival of Harvey Gilmour from Halifax Town. A 24 year old midfielder, Gilmour came through the youth ranks at Sheffield United but failed to make an appearance for his hometown club. After scoring three times in a 14 game loan spell at Tranmere from the Blades, he moved to Prenton Park on a permanent deal in January 2019, but made just 12 appearances over the following 18 months and was released by the Whites in 2020. In 2020/2021, he signed a short-term deal with Stockport County but made just three appearances for the club before eventually moving back to Yorkshire to join Halifax in 2021. A stop-start first season at the Shay saw him featuring predominantly as either a left-winger or attacking midfielder, but a few changes in personnel saw him move into a central midfield role at the start of last season. This position seemed to suit him more as Gilmour made 43 appearances league last term (38 of them starts), scoring twice and helping the club to win the FA Trophy at Wembley. "“I’ve had a conversation with the gaffer, he’s told me how he wants to play and how it fitted me and my style of play. From there it was quite quick with how it happened" he told the club's official site. "“I’ll give one hundred and fifty per cent every game. I’m left-footed, I try and play off one-and-two touches, nice and quick and get it to the players who score the most."
