Much improved, Boufal given his head and occasionally losing it. Hojbjerg showed real class and capability, constantly breaking up United's attacks in midfield. McCarthy looked as though he'd been in between the posts all season and his kicking was mainly decent and he actually came for crosses, although he didn't always reach them. Downside was our failure to cross the ball on the ground, we lost most stuff played at head height. I think MP has to start this team against Palace with perhaps JWP making way for Gabbiadini as we have to have attacking purpose at home.

A first clean sheet for what, 11 games ? I certainly cheered this like a win !!
A full spirited performance which has been missing since the Everton game.
All played well, some really well - which is encouraging, as we usually have to carry 2/3/4 bad performers every game !! PEH was superb, as was Hoedt.

Perhaps 2nd choice Keeper, 3rd choice left back, 3rd choice right back and 2nd choice centre back is the way forward !!

Same attitude on Tuesday night please lads and a few goals as well !!

Much better performance from a team that showed up and put in a great team effort.
McCarthy showed what a keeper is about, not only played great but actually have a keeper that comes of his line.

Sooo much better. Really great effort from the starting 11 - so much more ooomph. Played well from back to front and some pretty moves that nearly ended with a goal. Long was so unlucky that De Gea denied him (and before anyone says Austin would have scored - no, he wouldn't, he wouldn't have got anywhere near the ball). The energy and commitment was all there and we didn't let Manure play. McCarthy did well without ever being sorely tested but he actually came out and claimed a couple of crosses. And the one he came for and missed put the striker off - it would otherwise have been a routine header but he did enough to prevent the striker from getting his head on it. Everyone put in a brilliant shift and while it's too early to judge, let's hope we've reached the corner and will be turning it soon. The only negative note was that Lemina was terrible when he came on, giving the ball away every time it came anywhere near him and not really making any tackles. He seems out of sorts and perhaps he's not fully recovered from his injury because before the knock he was awesome.

Almost like a different team to the one that got embarrassed on Boxing Day! Maybe the VVD issue really was affecting performance? Or maybe MP just woke up and realised that sitting back isn't the same as defending well, and that defending well means being prepared to push forward too. There were times when Saints were pushing MUtd back with 8 players camped in their half...impressive. Now if only there were one bloke who could actually score a goal, we'd be laughing. If this is how we can play when MP looses the leash a bit, we'll probably be safe; get in a goalscorer this week and we'll definitely be safe. Meanwhile, massive effort by the back four, but still Hojbjerg was head and shoulders above the rest of them. Special mention for McCarthy....and for MP for having finally made that decision.

Good turnaround after last week's abject performance. Some excellent shifts from the back 4 and the 2 holding. Felt sorry for Long after De Gea's save with his feet. Tuesday will be huge.

Totally agree with SmiffDub a different team full of desire and passion . Saints could easily have won snd only De Gea denied them. Great performance by all but well done especially to Mcarthy who controlled his area and dominated . Just could do with someone who can perform like Salah . Dreams eh !!!

If he plays Forster again he's mental. The team had fifty times the confidence and resilience with a live body between the sticks.

it seems that the line-ups we play away are almost more positive than those at home. We didn't play badly at Man City, or Chelsea and the latest performance was certainly well worth the Point.
Tbf ..McCarthy didn't have a lot to do, but what he did do ..he did well. Good performances from Stepehens and Mc Queen and best viewing of JWP for a while (three Academy graduates , eh ?)
MOM def. Hojbjerg ..who really looks the part and Hoedt is finding his feet, too.

Don't know what changes MP will make for Tuesdsay, but we need someone else up front to help Long, who still runs his heart out - (when is he going to score ?)
