Not an unexpected result against a predictably determined opposition but a disappointingly lacklustre performance, particularly in the second half. My friend has said that he would settle for mid-table mediocrity this term - well, he got the second bit right. I personally don't think that Saints will pick up until Christmas. The one thing that got me was why play Long on the wing. Pelle should have been taken off (and needs to stay off and watch a few games to understand what is expected of him) and, as we were desperate to create something, RK should have put Isgrove on, not Jack Cork, much as I like him. The big plus was Forster - very alert and dominant.

Thought I'd give a bit of balance from an opponents view. Saint Gerrard, don't blame the away team for your own shortcomings. Opening day last season you beat us at home comfortably, this season I thought your performance was insipid. Considering it was your managers first home game, there seemed no urgency in your play, with very little quality. Poor game I agree, but I honestly believe we had the better chances, especially in the second half when our new forward came on (who incidentally looked miles better than either Long or Pelle) I genuinely hope you do ok as I think what happened to you in the summer was poor, it goes to show clubs like ours will always have a ceiling, good luck for the res of the season

Wigan dominant in the first half and could have been 3 up by half time against aBlackpool team struggling with the defensive formation set up by JR 2nd half Blackpoolplayed a more attacking game alleviating pressure on the beleagured Oriol and with the introduction of Miller and Ranger might have snatched an unlikely point on the day though a Wigan victory was all too deserved and in truth 1-0 flattered Pool not Wigan

Nothing really positive to say. Can't tell how good Spurs were because we were shocking. Most of the teams we will play will have better individual players, therefore we need to compete - tackle, put ourselves about and show energy and commitment. Overall we didn't. Work hard to create a chance(s) and then take it - we didn't work hard - we created a few chances and then squandered them. Harry, like all Managers, will have players he will not favour. Ale is one of them. Came on - won the ball, kept possession, kept it simple and found his man. He will not be selected next Saturday however. Pace is essential at this level all over the park. Ned has that in abundance, and can play and defend well - again not favoured by Harry.
Get beat 4 nil by a better team Away - OK, understandable - but certainly not in the manner of a performance like today's. Unacceptable.

The fact that we are goal-less, bottom of the league and have just lost 4v0 to a good Spurs side doesn't massively concern me at this very early stage of the season. What does really concern me was the dire performance, reminded me very much of the opening day demolition by Swansea. This could easily have been and possibly should have been 6 or 7. When you consider the performances of the teams likely to be in the relegation scrap with us I am even more worried, for example Burnley were decent v Swansea and Leicester seemed to give a good account of themselves at Chelsea.

I am also surprised that Harry seemed fairly clueless as to what went wrong, seemed to be a suggestion that the players didn't want it enough or were off the pace.

All very worrying.

Very disappointing and Arry will no doubt persist with a formation the players don't believe in, and also continue to pick his favourites! The extremely poor attitude for a local derby, and so many players out of form and lacking confidence so early in the season is a major concern. I hope Fernandez keeps his hands in his pockets and refuses to fund any panic purchases. Make the management team work with what they have, get them fit, motivated, and organised, and pick the in form players. Its not rocket science, but why Dunne over Onucha, and if Fer isn't match fit, why play him? Poor Faurlin will hardly get a look in, and Mutch was so poor and shouldn't just get picked purely on the money we forked out for him. Too early to panic, but if another 3-4 games in, and we are still win less, and getting outplayed, Arry will need to ditch his 3-5-2, go back to a 4-4-2, and start picking players on merit and not just his favourites. Its going to be a long slog this season without making life harder for ourselves! Hoddle may not have to look far for his next management role otherwise. Yesterday almost felt like a return to the Mark Hughes days, when the team looked uninterested and clueless!

Given the opposition, I think Swansea could have dominated more but that would be over critical as they did control the game for long periods. Missed a few opportunities when in attack two occasions of note coming in the first half when Tiendalli drifted off side to collect a pass from Dyer, when in a strong attacking position. Stand out players on the night, for me, were Tom Carroll, who worked hard and intelligently to link play and Kyle Bartley who covered well and on one occasions in particular intervened Ashley Williams like, when opponent beat Richards coming into the box from the right, in the second half. Towards the end Bony missed a few chances, that we have become accustomed to him taking, but in all a satisfactory night and role on the next round draw.
