Why did we not switch Bunney to the left and Vincenti to the right , it seemed as if we were trying to handicap ourselves? I would play Tanser at left fullback as he is the best crosser of the ball.

Well our 2nd game of the season and if we could stick the 1st halves of this and the Peterborough game together then we'd have a great result. We started the game with a few changes from Saturday with Joe Bunney, Peter Vincenti, Calvin Andrews, Bastien Hery coming in for Allen, Done and Donnelly and Rafferty. Vincenti and Bunney were patrolling the wings whilst Andrews was up top. The first half was controlled by Dale and our chances came from Joe Bunney who's cross come shot clipped the crossbar and went out being our best chance. The game was turned on its head just before half-time when the ball was bundled over the line by Preston, the heavens opened and the players walked in with there heads down. The 2nd half started and on 48mins came Prestons second goal, the ball wasn't cleared from Dales box and fell to Kilkenny who rifled the ball home from near the penalty spot. Dale were now fighting an uphill battle against a defending Preston side and the elements. Changes were made but we just couldn't get back in the game. All told we don't do well in the Carling cup and can now concentrate on the league, I feel we need a striker asap even though it's early days.

For me it became clearer that try as they might, the team just consists of individuals at the moment, and we're even short of those.

There's an international break in the first week in September. Before that we have four games. Given where we are, in effect, that's our preseason. Pick up anything and it will be a bonus. Once we get to Sept 13, the season starts in earnest.

Until then the team and manager need to be given time to sort the mess out.

Last night, we struggled for cohesion understandably with a back four who probably hadn't even trained as a unit. Unsurprisingly we struggled all evening.

The positives were that Miller is still the player who used to terrorise us. If he stays fit he'll be a real force. Clarke was solid all evening and can be the leader the defence need.

The support did exactly that and backed the team throughout while understandably giving the Oystons some grief.

I went to a new ground. That's it as far as I'm concerned.

For self inflicted reasons, we're playing a 40 game season compared to everyone else. We need to be supportive and I still believe Riga can give us a season to remember for the right reasons.

Wow! Just Wow! A great start to the season. Fabianski was confident, the back four solid, the midfield ticked over well and we really threatened on the counterattack. Sigurdsson played well in the right position for him. Well done Monk/the Board for resigning him! Montero and Gomis settled in quickly and played well when they came on, and even the much maligned Tiendalli did a good job for us as a substitute for Taylor. With a few more signings to strengthen further, and no Thursday evening Europa Cup games to stretch the squad, we might even finish higher than last season. And who knows - a Cup run again? And we were singing..................

A very promising start with newbies looking comfortable and a promising return for Faurlin. Thought we closed them down well but seemed to tire out in 2nd half. Subs were justified as midfield was starting to show its lack of pace and creativity. To be fair, Hull defended well and some last-ditch tackles helped them keep clean sheet. We had chances to draw or even win near the end but t'was not to be. We must make more of crossing and set pieces.
