Disappointed on 20:56 - Mar 8 by Wilkinswatercarrier | But this isn't the year of transition. Its next season. We are going to have at least 6 to 7 new starters, not squad or subs, but starters next season. Two ways to look at it; bad, losing all the experience or good, we were pretty poor anyway. I'm going for good as let's be honest, bar a three month period we have been gash to watch. |
We need to calm our expectations. We are still 12 points clear. That run that we've had might have just kept us from being in another relegation battle again. [Post edited 9 Mar 9:39]

Disappointed on 09:37 - Mar 9 with 1361 views | daveB | I thought we played OK, nothing in the game really but for one very soft penalty descion and them going to 10 men actually helped them to sit deep and we were pretty much done for without a forward I've seen far worse than that this season from us

I thought the same - just lacked that little bit of quality and composure inside the box or a player being in the right position to a few balls that Jimmy headed back into the centre of the box - maybe a fit Frey or Kolli would have picked one of them up. Thought our fans on the whole were great - sang all the way through the game, very loud! Heard a couple of grumbles walking away from the ground after the game but I think the fact that the team got a good reaction at the end from most of our fans showed we appreciated their efforts. Small margins again, just going against us at the moment. Thought West Brom would have been better - they created nothing really. Their tactics in the 2nd half was to ensure as much time was wasted as possible.

But he clearly states Marti is not the problem! I think people are reading what they want to read into what he said, as opposed to what he actually said

Disappointed on 11:13 - Mar 9 with 1094 views | LazyFan | Smyth, upfront, is a message to the bosses that we need another experienced Striker. Colback is now 1 yard off the pace for Champ games, if its on QPR's side the option, then he's gone. Forgetting the pen (which shows he's a yard off the pace), his yellow came for being not quick enough as well. Marti is pissed about it for sure with his comments and he's onto Colback now too with those comments. In these situations, you miss Varane and Field. I don't understand why we don't give EDB a chance as at least he runs and runs. Same with Andersen as he's out for too much of a season and also looks a yard off. He will be gone too. Yang has been given a run, but apart from looking good against a poor Derby, he does not even seem to beat a man. He looked very poor against a proper Champ LB. Paal phoned it in and seemed to be on the beach. I would give Morgan a go is Paal is going to play like that. Chair and Saito were the only ones trying to play the game, Smyth was out of position and never received the ball as Morgan was outnumbered in middle as Colback was unable to support (hiding a lot at the back). Bartly was impressive for them, but even he got a yellow and I bet Frey would have smashed him around a bit and got something from him. It's not terrible; it's expected with that team. The real problem is that we do not have fit replacements for players when they are out. So, they start to become key. and if those key players go off form like Paal or get too old like Colback, then we are screwed, even against 10 men! We need to scrape across the line with 50 pts and 16th place. Then, in the summer, it will be once again a massive in-and-out mess. This is the knock-on effect of Warburton's massive punt (approved by Hoos) and Beales's screw-ups. Yep, years later, it can affect a club like that as the contracts are big money and for many years. You may say those players are not around, but Colback, Cook, Andersen, and Frey were brought in to shore up the ship when we could not afford big transfer fees (which they did for those years). If Saito comes to us I will be surprised, Edwards there is no chance as Saints would want £3m for him and even if we had it, his wages will be mega prem wages which we cannot afford which is why Saints will play him. Now we have only Chair as the salable asset that anyone would want and naff all else. I suspect Wilder will put in a £10m plus bid for Chair if Sheff Utd gets promoted, it's clear he has the hots for him. Thus there will be more ins and outs. It will be a summer of chaos again.

Disappointed on 11:33 - Mar 9 with 1055 views | Dorse | I was disappointed with the performance yesterday but was, frankly, gobsmacked by the team selection and was not surprised by the result. Someone pointed out that our front four had a combined height of 12' 4", roughly equivalent to 145 hamsters standing on each other. Based on our cutting edge yesterday, may I suggest we give the hamsters a go next time?

Disappointed on 11:36 - Mar 9 with 1045 views | baz_qpr | I would suggest we were the better team first half. In Frey and Kolli we have better strikers than we have had for years, but if you take them out it's very difficult to create clear cut chances. Yes we know Lloyd looks like he will trip over his laces, he can cause a bit of chaos, but his positioning and movement yesterday was really awful. There was one when Dunne won the ball headed it across the six yard box for a simple tap in and Lloyd was in front of the ball absolutely criminal. The movement of the strikers is a huge part of creating clear cut chances, it's why Dykes never seemed to get opportunities. Frey and Kolli both have that (Kolli in spades). As we have said for a number of seasons our 1st choice 11 or 15 is good enough but we dont have depth to cope with injuries especially to top 6 sides

The OP states: "Manager not the problem-let’s admit it it’s the players." That's very clear and is a lesson to some in getting beyond the first sentence before reacting. 6 posts later the OP states: "Manager is great, best we have had in years" yet some folk are still under the impression that the thread is anti-Marti and a call for his sacking. It's not. It's merely a disappointed fan who recognises that the manager is not the reason why this squad was unable to sustain the good run and challenge the top 6. It is currently short in some areas, particularly up top. Frankly, this is hardly a revelation and doesn't warrant much reaction other than "No shit, Sherlock" and let's see what business the club manages to do in the summer.

Congrats, I think you've just set a record for the most glossary phrases in one post. Don't you think Cifuentes is more than capable of communicating to the other senior figures at the club his thoughts on the squad and where it most needs improving without resorting to petty and potentially damaging matchday gestures? He's not Harry Redknapp.

Disappointed on 21:36 - Mar 8 by numptydumpty | I haven't got any evidence other than it's a three game week. Both have picked "minor injuries" in training according to the club statement previous to the game .That's poor to have two key players pick up injuries in the same week on the training ground. But if miraculously they both picked in the next two games, I would suggest it's suspect. I never said it was fact. Also, I didn't think it was that poor performance, just lacking the right people in the middle would have helped. But yes thanks for the character assassination. I would call it little white lies myself and that's completely guesswork on my part , but if as I expect, both start against Middlesbrough and Leeds, then perhaps young sir, we could chat again !!! They why did he not start Lloyd upfront? As he knew he was not up to it. By playing Smyth he shows the difference to all between a pacy player who is a winger and a real forward. Bringing Lloyd on proved that point again. He has proven he's exhausted all options up front and needs players to either be fit or proper recruitment. Madsen could return soon, just to prove once again he's not good enough unless he starts actually running of course.

Disappointed on 15:31 - Mar 9 with 610 views | derbyhoop | There's a fair bit of guesswork in this thread. 1. Marti rested Varane and Frey, rather than them being injured 2. There's a major rebuild coming this Summer. Assumption that all OOC players are not going to be here. Of course it was disappointing to lose. Hardly unprecedented. The issue for me was how little we created, especially against 10 men for 45.

Marti said in his post match that Lloyd has been carrying a groin problem and they doubted he was fit enough to play a full game.

I'm pretty sure he's picking the starting 11 he thinks is the best he's got to choose from. It's no secret nor surprise to anyone that Lloyd is fourth choice striker and Smyth is both a regular starter and better player. You're accusing Cifuentes of sabotaging lineups and throwing games to make a point to the board, which is absurd given that he's probably part of weekly meetings to discuss the progress of the squad and that every senior person at the club is regularly briefed on current player strengths and weaknesses.

On Colback's booking, when watching it live, I thought he kept up with their player who just seemed to fall over/dive as they got to the box to try to win a penalty. I didn't even think it was a free kick.
