Best CB we ever had 10:40 - Oct 19 with 6147 views | kingsburyR | Trying to lighten the mood. Ive been heading down to HQ for 40 years now. The glory boys up front and in midfield get most of the plaudits. I'd like to keep this to centre backs only. The best Ive seen in 40 years at our place was Paul Parker. Thoughts?
| Dont know why we bother. .... but we do! |

Best CB we ever had on 10:42 - Oct 19 with 4331 views | Antti_Heinola | For longevity, as well as playing at a high level almost his entire time, has to be Macca for me, although I imagine McLintock was very classy. Favourite - one of the two Dannys (Maddix or Shittu - not Cullip).

Best CB we ever had on 10:46 - Oct 19 with 4292 views | BazzaInTheLoft | Macca for me. Special mention for Onouha, who in almost any other QPR team in any other era other than the one he played in would have been considered a decent player. [Post edited 19 Oct 2023 11:02]

Best CB we ever had on 10:57 - Oct 19 with 4255 views | mart_Goblin | I thought Bob Hazell was immense when I was very young. Nothing ever seemed to get passed him. Macca and Peacock were a great partnership and we’re as hard as nails as a pairing. I don’t think they got on great if my memory serves me correctly , nothing major but just very different people. And an a shout out to a player very underestimated by everybody and that is Andy Tillson. The 2 above were favoured as they worked better together but Andy was pure class, not just as a defender but as a footballer . With the way the game is played now he’d be a top premier league player without doubt .
Best CB we ever had on 11:10 - Oct 19 with 4195 views | Burnleyhoop | Danny maddix. The best man for man marker I have ever seen. Had Mark Hughes in his pocket, will never forget it. Also loved the Glen Roeder step over, sent opposition players off in completely the wrong direction. Good old days indeed.

I agree with your observations. He was a superb defender and it was no surprise to see him star for England in the World Cup and be bought by Man Utd. But did he play as a sweeper rather than as a centre back under Don Howe, thereby relieving him of marking duties? I know I'm splitting hairs, but it's easier to shine in defence when you don't have a centre forward right beside you all the time. Macca for me.
Best CB we ever had on 11:15 - Oct 19 with 4175 views | ChrisNW6 | Big fan of Terry Fenwick and thought he was a great leader on the pitch. Paul Parker ripped up copy book and would out jump 6ft strikers. Special mention to Glenn Roeder and his 'shuffle' | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Best CB we ever had on 11:15 - Oct 19 with 4175 views | ted_hendrix | We travelled up to Huddersfield on the night Tuesday January 14, 1997 for the cup replay four of us In a stinky beer and cold pasty smelling Escort van with me driving, in the dying seconds we get a corner and the ground goes quiet, the corner is delivered inch perfect and you can hear Macca shout ''out the way'' and lo and behold he heads it at 100MPH into the net. Bedlam in the away end. I loved the big Man and his passion, I loved the way he 'beat up' Mark Hughes, he came over to us and gave us a face growl at Oxfords old ground (the Manor) we were getting battered and a few of our lads started throwing beer bottles on the pitch, they get a corner and Macca picks up a beer botttle from the pitch and walks over to us holding the bottle and growling at us behind the goal. He was special, one of them blokes who played for us who could do no wrong, a proper Man's Man. If ever a saying rang true then It's the one that goes *They don't make them like that anymore*

Parker was a centre-back first and foremost and started off for us as as one with Fenwick as sweeper, then Maguire. Not sure anyone got the better of him. Played as a centre-back for Howe too, but I think you're right that he was sweeper too for a spell. Man U and England played him out of position at right-back, and he still did well.

Best CB we ever had on 11:35 - Oct 19 with 4076 views | QPunkR | Macca all day long. Still have big love for big Danny Shittu and Clint Hill but Macca is head and shoulders the best CB we've had in my time

Best CB we ever had on 11:36 - Oct 19 with 4067 views | queensparker | Another vote for Paul Parker, he was absolutely outstanding w at centre back for us. Different gravy
Best CB we ever had on 11:41 - Oct 19 with 4049 views | Ranger_1969 | Parker just ahead of Macca for me. With a shout out for Fenwick as well - maybe slightly underrated by some.
Best CB we ever had on 11:48 - Oct 19 with 4032 views | QPRSteve | I'd add Dave Webb in to the mix, fantastic defender an d chipped in with a few goals, I like all those mentioned so far. I''m another one who loved Bob Hazel. I remember when we signed him from Wolves he came with a reputation for being sent off. What a lovely man he turned out to be. Will always be remembered for marking Regis out the game in that FA cup semi-final.

Best CB we ever had on 12:16 - Oct 19 with 3962 views | Galileo | In no particular order since each of them had differing traits. Roeder, Parker and Maddix. Hard to believe we had Roeder and Currie in the same team in the equivalent of today's Championship. Night and day compared to 2023.
Best CB we ever had on 12:24 - Oct 19 with 3936 views | paulparker | Easy Paul Parker Just Quality , I know he won trophies at man yoo but he was wasted at right back Also criminal that turnip Taylor dumped him from the England squad as soon as he got in
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Best CB we ever had on 12:29 - Oct 19 with 3924 views | ActonExile | PP is the best i've seen technical ability, Macca is the best 'never say die' attitude, There were times when Richard Dunne's positioning were superb(imho) and probably made up for lack of fitness, we just got him 2 or 3 years(or stone) too late.

Best CB we ever had on 13:15 - Oct 19 with 3831 views | GRDHoops | My favourites: Macca (also my favourite ever QPR player). Shittu. Can't see him mentioned yet but also Clint Hill .
