While we're here, can everyone nominate the manager after that and the one after that too.

Should cover us for the next 2-3 years I reckon, saves a new thread.

Ainsworth and Kenny Jackett stand out but all depends what the club want now, if it's a continuation of this nonsense then doesn't really matter

I can't believe that Jackett would come, unfortunately, given that promotion is looking a distinct possibility for Pompey at the moment, plus the fact that Portsmouth is quite a big club. I think he would want to stay and "finish what he started".

I do like the idea of Ainsworth but unless he gets off to a flyer, fans will hammer him for his relative lack of coaching experience and his direct style. "Naive" will be looming large in the word cloud. I would be happy with him but he would probably fall victim to the vicious circle which continues to surround and constrict us: at first we want a passionate "Rangers man" who can motivate and inspire thanks to his background, then when results take a downturn, we want a more experienced coach.

I was hoping we wouldn't even be having this new manager conversation now so I am pretty clueless - plus ca change - but if we wanted to be really creative, how about this bloke? He turned French minnows Guingamp into a top flight club and even - gasp won the cup with them.

Call me crazy, far out or even a revolutionary but how about for once we do some homework on these managers and interview 4 or 5 candidates ,
tell them what we want, tell them the players they will be using and give them a list of players they may want in the forthcoming transfer windows which we have a club have scouted ,
ask them how they would use a Smyth , ask them what formation they would fit a Manning in , ask them how they will make Eze a 20 million player
if they don't or cant work to that then you see the next candidate
that's what we employ Les & Penrice for so how about we let them get on with it instead of just going with a bloke who did some coaching here for 10 games and a former fans favourite to get the fans back on side

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

I have an even better idea. Why don't we just keep a manager for 3 - 5 years and let him have the time to build something instead of sacking them every 6 - 9 months. We just came off a 5 game unbeaten run and lost to another mid-table championship side. Not really that shocking! Then we had our annual cup capitulation, which surely couldn't have been a surprise to anyone

People need to calm the f*ck down and let any manager we appoint have the time to actually make something of the job.

Not if it's steveee

Watford has changed their manager time and time again and is doing bloody well, depends on how the rest of the club is run and it's been dreadful.

I used to work at Northwood Underground station many years ago, where Roy Walker was a regular. He came through once and put his ticket in the barrier upside down and I said 'it's good but it's not right' and everyone pissed themselves. Was my Oscar Wilde moment.

Joke wore thin after a few years and now I can't be within 50m of him or his family.

If we really did get rid of McLaren, at this point I think the least damaging thing would be to apologise to Olly and have him come back and continue. If we'd given him Wells and Hemed last season he'd have got us 4 or 5 places higher anyway - as Smiffy used to say - FACT!

Usually I would agree but you must admit McClaren has been a disaster so far and undone all the good work from last season

Well, we should not have to go rid of Olly then, fat lot of good that's done.

He was building, like you say you want, maybe not to everyone's speed or liking, now it's all out the window

As BklynRanger points out, whoever Smiffy is, he knows a fact and Steveee is a busted flush.

Jill Ellis.

Manager of US Women who are ranked number one. Good pedigree with bringing youngsters through. English.

Good from a PR point of view too, and would boost crowds.

I just want a good manager and a good team if that means sticking with one bloke for 5 years then great if it means changing something if it doesn't work then great again.

I don't think McClaren should be sacked today and have always felt a manager should get a full season but f it's not working I wouldn't want stability for the sake of it. From what i've seen so far I don't think he's doing a very good job and i can see the club making a change before xmas.

We sack too many managers and doing it in mid-season narrows your choices - I'd only sack him mid-season if I thought it was needed to avoid relegation; we're nowhere near yet.

But there's a big problem if he's not working to his brief. I'd much rather he was sat down with Amit and Les, reminded of what the club's strategy is (I presume he's been told it already) and asked how he's going to meet it, with a few targets set. Basically, he needs performance management. And I'd like the FA Cup to feature in that.

Gigi DiCanio.

Never heard a peep from him moaning about players. Just took what he was given and COACHED them.

Made Aygemang score.

Made a defence with Bob Malcolm in it look passable.

Scored goals that you could see originated on the training ground.

ok, glasses no doubt a bit rose-tinted...but as we're skint, we need someone who'll coach what we have - which, of course, is what the current incumbent was supposed to be doing...
