I love Ollie, but I spent as much time on here defending him from people as I did JFH. Where are the keyboard warriors who so loudly called for him to go last time now?
He looked like a shell at Palace and Millwall. Would be a disaster for both parties imo. Obviously love him and would support him though. But he's not the one.

Bare bones.

I don't see how nostalgia is going to move the club forward.

The tribal elders would get to sing some songs again I guess.

He really should have had a break after Palace, looked a shell of himself at Millwall especially. He has taken that time out now though so it would be goo to see him get back in somewhere, I would rather we were not the ones to test the water with him but he would have the fans onside straight away and is still hugely succesful at this level.

I am not sure it's that realistic, just one of the 6/7 we've interviewed or whose applications have been considered. It seems TBH that they sacked JFH with Sherwood to replace him and since then have backtracked and are now setting up an interview process. I hope, if that is the case, that things aren't rushed and we take whoever thefans seem to be most happy with.

Agree . I havnt enjoyed being a Fan as much as when Ollie was here .

There were 3 main critics on here ,only BostonR remains I think . Trying to think who the others were. Maybe they would like to fess up ? Smiffy (RIP) used to row with them for hours

I fear for him if he comes back , he called himself in at Palace and would get no time before the critics old and new were at him .

It wouldnt be boring though if he still has gas in the tank

Edit
Just watched a couple of interviews with him near the end , he looked exhausted .

He did struggle at Millwall and in the end at Palace but he's had a break now and I think he could be quite good.

Warnock was on Danny Baker show the other week and was asked what you do when you go into these clubs mid season, he said you add a sense of humour. He was saying they can all play and you can work all week on tactics etc but players are not robots and if you add some humour to things people enjoy their work and end up working harder. It's a basic approach and is hardly the answer to everything but our team for the last 3 years have looked like one who hate playing football and find no joy from it. Holloway coming in and making it fun for the players might be something that helps bring better more relaxed performances.

Of course it could go the other way as well but why not try it?

Realistically whoever comes in we're going to be mid table at best, possibly a relegation battle if it starts badly and i think what Holloway would do is lift the place a bit and get fans onside.

Long term I don't think it would work but long term i don't think any manager works these days, if we'd given it to Warnock plenty would be wanting him out within a year.

Managers only ever last 18 months at best so I think it's worth appointing managers with this kind of thinking. Get someone in for a short term job then see where you are in 18 months and appoint what is required at that stage. It's the way Southampton do it and has worked for them. the days of a long term manager are long gone

I think your last point may be while the club are (hopefully) stalling on smug Tim (or why he is reported to be out of the running) - I suspect he's after a large salary and at least a 3 year deal. If the fans turn against him quickly then it's going to be a very expensive mistake.

I don't think you can compare it to Southampton Dave! They lose managers in general because they are doing well! When was the last time we had a manager poached? I know a couple sniffed round Ollie (and he had a very good sniff back with Leicester, Wolves and Plymouth, must be said) but other than that? Gerry?

Agree we need a character though. That's why I'm extremely leery about Clement.

Bare bones.

Yeah I think McIntyre mentioned something about salary demands being an issue -- although that may have been last time round.

Gerry was a free agent after resigning after the Rodney Marsh incident. If memory serves, Jim Smith would be the last.

The last six months of Holloway's time at QPR was very poor - hoofing the ball up the pitch, stacks of loan players coming in, a constant chopping and changing of players. He'd really run his race with us at that point. When he later had that success at Blackpool he himself admitted that he'd been forced to re-assess his approach to the game. I absolutely thought it was time for him to go.

And I'd agree with others that he looked completely shot in his last couple of jobs.

The question I'd ask about appointing him now is this: what's the end game? Is it a serious attempt to push the club forward or is it simply a short term appointment that the owners hope might appease some of our fans?

not really comparing us just saying they hire managers for what is needed at the time rather than a grand long plan. They did it with Pardew, Adkins then Poccatinio and were ruthless about it. I don't think it's a mad idea to do similar and at the moment a rabble rouser is required imo

Holloway, birch furs doesn't sound too bad to be fair. It's just that he has seen so broken by football management it's tough to know if he could maintain his enthusiasm if/when we went through a rough patch.

If not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled. PG Wodehouse

Would be very much in two minds about Olly, love him and would hate to see him being shredded if a return was unsuccessful.

On the other hand IF he could get of to a good start, he just might be able to generate that "feel good" thing and he could thrive on that himself.

He would need the support around him but just due to his previous relationship at Loftus Road surely that would be other ex R's. Birch? and why has Steve Gallen just resigned his role at Hong Kong Pegasus?

To be fair, we're a mid-table, functional team that has mostly basic players with a smattering of quality. We want hard work but with an emphasis on attacking (even if it's mostly rudimentary) and whilst we're fine to not have to win all the time, we do want to be competitive and bloody the noses of the big boys from time to time.

That sounds like an Olly team, right?

No , an Ollie team was made up of English characters like bircham, ainsworth etc who bought into his madness.

Our current Carlos kickaballs would probably think he's an idiot.

Mea culpa on Holloway.

As Clive reminds me, I actually wanted us to lose at Luton so the club could move him on - which eventually they did. I acknowledge the positives that he brought to the club during his time as manager, but his last 9 months were truly awful in football terms. He just decided to hoof it every week!

Whoever gets the job will eventually fail, Holloway and Warnock did last time if you judge them on the last 6 months.

I'd honestly love it if he came back and I know it won't happen

I hope there is no truth in this - like most people on here love the man - really funny, nice guy etc but
he like Warnock etc are yesterdays men. I was disappointed that it did not work out for JFH as he was a young new manager who was on the up (not many around that is the problem) and we were looking
forward as a club.

This appointment is really interesting and will have huge implications on our football club. No matter who it is there will be baggage. Sherwood the Spurs connection, being sacked twice already and apart from standing on the touchline gobbing off or celebrating a goal like it is the final of the world cup I really do not see what he offers or can offer in the future.

Clement is another who has huge question marks over him and wished I had not read some of the threads posted on here as it has given me huge doubts over his ability as a manager - not as a coach but that is different. You should not be hired because of sentiment - look at Bryan Robson & Roy Keane great players awful managers.

Now not sure who I want perhaps Big Sam - he has the experience but why would he come to QPR? ok MONEY!!!!
