Drink 23:10 - May 7 with 6549 views | komradkirk | is fecking bad. on the town in Belfast tonight and after six pints of stout i had to come home. normally guinness doesn't give me the heartburn so this is a very worrying scenario. not drunk but pissed off to high heaven.
Drink on 23:23 - May 7 with 5921 views | Toast_R | I've been getting this lately too. Reflux is a c*nt. I'm baffled as to what starts it off but have a big suspicion alcohol is a big contributer. I've had 3 beers and two ciders tonight and I'm fine. One glass of red wine last night and I was f*cked. Other times just a can of Pepsi Max has brought it on. Found that Tesco one tablet anti indigestion sorts it our reasonably quick though.

Drink on 02:09 - May 8 with 5778 views | Boston | After years of 'regular' drinking.... I just can't be f..,Ing bothered anymore. Haven't given up, just not arsed most nights. Couple of things I've noticed, no heartburn, no farting, better sleeping.

Drink on 04:36 - May 8 with 5734 views | BklynRanger | I don't know if heartburn is genetic but my dad always had it and so do I. I've been on that omeprazole stuff for about 10 years now and it's been a dramatic improvement. They did say that it could cause osteoporosis but I haven't had any trouble other than the odd broken hip and fractured eye socket. Have a look into it Captain K.

You can, but, it's very expensive. Got prescribed 40mg bombs of the stuff before I had my gall bladder out. It's good, but, gives you the chronic ten bob bits

cheers aged. Zantac 75 costs around £3.75 for 12 tablets, i know quite a few blokes from my heavy drinking City days on Zantac 15O MG , which went through me like a dose of salts. I used to be munching 6 rennies a day and glugging peto bismol until i discovered zantac. 5 years ago I managed to shift twenty odd pounds (before piling it back on again) through giving up pints and swapping it for vodka and slimline tonic. My indigestion and heartburn stopped. Stupid to start drinking again.. you got to have some pleasures in life or you might as well jump in the sea and drown As Jimmy from Quadropenia would say

The regular blood pressure tests suddenly dropped to Olympic athlete levels and er going to the potty, who knew a dump didn't have to resemble a watery hamster pellet mix?

Drink on 18:58 - May 8 with 5196 views | danehoop | I have been taking the omprazole for just over a year, after the ranatadin stopped working. Originally diagnosed as probable ulcer, until my gall bladder offered up a 2cm gallstone when I ended up in a&e last summer. It is available over the counter, but not cheap (interestingly my GP reckoned it was very cheap for NHS so there is clearly a good markup for someone). Wouldn't recommend taking it without having a gp opinion as it works in a different way to Zantac.

I honestly cant remember how much i paid mate. i got prescribed two boxes months ago but its been the best thing I've taken for bad heart burn. Its definitely the beer that causes it for me as i didn't need them when i did a dry Jan,Feb and March. Rennies and the like never touched it. I used to down bi carbonate of soda in water which sorted heartburn out straight away but its probably not a good idea to do that.

Drink on 19:52 - May 8 with 5145 views | TacticalR | There is some interesting stuff about this class of drug on John Briffa's website. Doctors found to be overprescribing indigestion medication — and advice for those wanting to take a drug-free approach to this problem http://www.drbriffa.com/2008/01/07/doctors-found-to-be-overprescribing-indigesti Unfortunately the test for stomach acidity which he used to do has been outlawed: 'I also made the point that many of these individuals have symptoms that don’t seem to be related to low stomach acid secretion. A few years ago there used to be a test for stomach acid secretion in a specialised lab here in London, UK, using something known as the Heidelberg capsule (a tiny pH sensitive device) and radiotelemetry (the device would send a pH reading from the stomach to a device outside the body). Before this test was, I believe, outlawed by the European Union, I estimate that I ran about 200 or so of these tests on patients with symptoms of indigestion and/or acid reflux. Only ONE came back as showing signs of excess acid. The significant majority actually showed LOW stomach acid levels (the minority had ‘normal’ acid levels).' Indigestion drugs can cause the symptoms they are designed to treat http://www.drbriffa.com/2009/07/17/indigestion-drugs-can-cause-the-symptoms-they More evidence that acid-suppressing medication can sometimes do more harm than good http://www.drbriffa.com/2011/09/08/more-evidence-that-acid-suppressing-medicatio One *possible* explanation for beer being suspect is carbohydrates (present in beer, bread, sugar etc), which a lot of people can't handle. Like Discodroids Briffa advocates Vodka as an alternative. 'Alcoholic beverages are generally a source of carbohydrate which, remember, is a prime driver of weight gain. Perhaps unsurprisingly, several studies show that higher alcohol intakes are associated with greater body weight. Many studies have also found an association between higher alcohol intakes and increased risk of abdominal obesity. For a given amount of alcohol, beer contains much more carbohydrate than wine (they’re not called ‘beer bellies’ for nothing). Red wine contains, generally speaking, less carbohydrate than white. So, if your goal is to lose fat effectively, drink as little as possible, and when you do drink, perhaps limit yourself to a glass of red wine with your evening meal. However, in certain circumstances spirits might be an even better option than red wine. While they typically have an unhealthy reputation, in reality they contain very little carbohydrate for a given amount of alcohol. The real issue with spirits is usually any mixer that accompanies them. Fruit juice, tonic water, lemonade and cola will all provide much sugar and/or artificial sweetener. Vodka and soda with a twist of lime (or even a splash of lime cordial) represents a good option all round for those who like it. Vodka has the advantage of being a generally pure spirit that is unlikely to induce much in the way of a hangover the following day.' John Briffa Escape The Diet Trap (2011)

Drink on 23:01 - Jan 13 with 2121 views | NewmanBenjamIn | Hi, it looks like you had a rough night out! It's understandable that you're feeling frustrated and worried. Six pints of stout is a lot to drink and it's not uncommon to feel heartburn as a result. [Post edited 15 Jan 2023 23:31]
