When is Les Ferdinand leaving 12:01 - Nov 5 with 7716 views2Thomas2Bowles

I mean he came in and stabbed arry in the back, gave us a load of B'shit about returning to the "old QPR ways" gave a job to his useless mate and has left him hung out to dry

Is he untouchable ? I called him a chancer and Northenr, ripped me but I still think I'm right.

Agree 100% - signings have been terrible. Debacle with McCarthy then we keep Green and sign Smithies. Perch has a great resume which includes being relegated 2 years in a row. Watford discarded Angella and Toszer cos they are a couple of cart horses that were never near Prem quality. LF has not signed anybody with any pace + he got outfoxed in the Austin, Phillips, Fer sales. I wish I was saying "What have the Romans done for us" as per life of Brian - roads, sanitation etc. but, seriously, what has LF done for us. I can't blame LF or CR for the sh*t state of the toilets at Loftus Road though.

How did he get outfoxed on Fer, Austin and Phillips? Fer was off to Sunderland and failed a medical then Austin decided he wanted to stay.

I said in the summer I thought we'd made good signings and still think we did now. Whoever takes over will need to make 2 or 3 key signings but that will turn us into a team pushing for promotion if the new fella gets them right.

Christ.
Do me a favour. Look at our signings for the last 10 years. Tell me which ones you actually like. Because by your standards I think that list stretches to Austin... and that's about it. Maybe Ale (who's been no better than Toszer this year, if we're honest).

Of those...
Hill was believed to be a total waste of time i much the same way as Konch now.
Taarabt - well, opinion is divided to put it mildly
Dunne was good at times, awful at others - had a terrible 2nd half of the season in the Championship until the play-offs
Isla?
Helguson written off by loads of people
Shittu laughed at when he first came, disastrous debut.
Gorkss good at first, but completely lost it by the end of the season.

To be fair, I loved all those signings too (although Isla was not good) - but the point is, I didn't love them all immediately, and almost all of them had issues behind them - a bit raw, a lot of injuries, poor starts etc.

So maybe instead of calling 'all' our sigings last summer 'terrible' you try and be a bit more balanced in your thoughts? Have a bit more patience?

Bare bones.

I wasn't coming in on either side there, just naming players.

You also have to look at how they went on after they left us i.e. Danny Parejo who is top class now, Mbia has kicked on well. I've personally liked the signings this year and rate the job Les has done.

Isn't it funny. Players come in who were good elsewhere, play poorly here, move on and do well. Managers who were good elsewhere, do poorly here, move on and do well. It's almost like they're not the problem, like something else is.

Do you think the boardroom influence on football matters has been decreasing though?

Well I did too, but he wasn't used well was he? And he had some diabolical games too and was way off the pace for a while...
But my point really was that after 15 games dismissing our signings as all 'terrible' is a nonsense - just how good would a player have to have been for richpr to even class them as acceptable?

me too and he was a good signing if we stuck to a back 3 and played him as a wing back. Once we scrapped that and played him at right back he was pointless

No. If it was Les and Chris would have been allowed to run around with Furlong and Doughty in the team all season, bumping around about where we are now in the league.

Well, who is the negative one now!
Citing Shittu's debut is stretching it to the extreme
Every player gets worse towards the end of their careers.

However, you are right - I ill try and have more patience with the younger players we signed now that we might have a manager that plays the decent players.

Nobody will ever sway me on Toszer though - he is worse than terrible + BTW I thought Isla was good - just shows how people's opinions differ

SWP
Anton Ferdinand
Esteban Granero
Bobby Zamora
Andrew Johnson
Mbia
Chrisopher Samba
Park
Julio Cesar
Jordan Mutch
Caulker

There’s more players I’m sure and the above are just off the top of my head, but with the exception of Mbia and possibly Granero, what players have been really sh*t for us but then kicked on elsewhere? Isla and Vargas I’ve not listed as I didn’t view them as sh*t whilst with us.

The Manager point I totally agree with but I think our player recruitment points more towards bringing in the wrong kind of player than it simply being a case of training/coaching/set-up turning them sh*t.

I was being negative to make my point, rich.
People gave Furlong pelters and actually he had the best years of his career pretty late on - his mid-30s, even later. We've had players of all ages who have improved given time and a run in the side. We've also had the opposite - Cullip and Bolder inspirational for half a season, pretty ordinary after that.
I dunno, we're all tired and emotional aren't we, but sweeping statements with no real basis in reality like 'our signings have been terrible' tend to get my goat a bit, even when I'm sure that you wrote it in frustration.

Bare bones.

With the exception of the retired players, they see all playing at an equal or far higher level now. SWP evens looks like a footballer again in MLS after losing the ability to trap a ball here.

There's a fabulous irony in the fact that Mutch, whilst carrying an injury that hampered him all season, was booed out of the club and is now quietly and effectively doing the job for Palace that Henry is getting destroyed for being asked yet unable to do here.

Mutch was indeed treated badly. But not sure what you're on about here mate.
Mutch has played in 6 games this season. Was subbed in the first, came on as sub in the next 4, then was subbed again when they were dicked on by City about a week ago - which, incidentally, was his first appearance of any kind for over 5 weeks. 2 of those 6 performances were in the Capital One Cup.

He's doing it so quietly and effectively it's almost like he's not really playing at all.

Bare bones.

I don't know how you can use that list as evidence that players are poor with us but excel elsewhere. They may well be involved with clubs at a higher level, but hardly pulling up any trees.

No club in the Championship or Premiership were prepared to offer SWP a deal - tells you something. Caulker can't even get into the Southampton team, whilst Mutch is hardly a resounding success since leaving us for Palace as has been pointed out, he's not started too many games for them. No idea what's gone on with Anton but no premier league club have enquired about taking him back.

The original comment suggested players leave us and then go on to prove they were really good players. I don't think that list makes that a clear-cut thing. As I said originally, I think when you look at that list, the majority of players were the wrong signings for the Football club, not just a case of us bringing them down to our level. And the retired players are relevant too, as it again reinforces the view that we should never have signed them in the first place.

The interesting one for me will be when Hoillet leaves. I have a feeling he may become a good case study for your argument

Mutch wasn't booed out of the club at all, he got very little stick from fans, Redknapp was the the one slated for not picking him

Or do the players do badly because the manager that is managing them is all wrong?

Hughes - good if handed a side with solid foundations that just needs a tinker here and there. Give him money to spend, not so good. Good manager but poor fit for QPR given the mandate at the time. Had he been asked to build on the promotion side rather than given free rein to dismantle and replace it I suspect it may have been a different story.
Redknapp - Used to be good but arrived here broken and disinterested. He's not doing well elsewhere since he left.
Ramsey - Didn't do well before, unlikely to do so in the future.

The last manager that was the right fit was Warnock. Good track record at clubs of a similar stature with a similar remit. Exactly whet we needed at the time. I don't recall many of the players he recruited before promotion that did well elsewhere, failed here, and then moved on to do well somewhere else. Those that he recruited after promotion are well documented to have been last resorts because his targets had all gone. None of those have gone on to better things since leaving.

Nobody in their right mind would deny that the club is run appallingly. But Flavio and Bernie were still here when we were promoted under Warnock. I can't believe either of them really sat on the sidelines saying nothing at all.

The background certainly doesn't make things any easier for any manager but I'm not sure you can just throw your hands up and say it's never going to work and give up. It's about making the right appointment for QPR. A good manager, yes, but not just because he's been good elsewhere, he needs to be a good manager who's the right fit as well.

In terms of wages paid i'd be shocked if there was another team in the championship who signed in more wage liability into their squad than QPR did during the last transfer window.

That one fact alone blows the happy clappy argument out of the water.

Add to that last seasons premiership squad minus caulker and barton.

...and owners and supporters should buy LF and CR's 'consolidation season' is frankly laughable. Its a results business.

Really?

You don't think that Boro are paying more in wages for their summer signings than we are?

You don't think Burnley are paying Gray more than we pay Chery?

Not this summer, but how about what Fulham are paying McCormack?

Bet we still have about the highest wage bill in the league, it was used as a stick to beat Redknapp last time when we were winning games in apparently not the required style, I've not seen it mentioned much this season.
