The Frankie Friday Music Thread.....RIP on 23:55 - Oct 10 by W13R
Thanks Lblock, been meaning to join for years now and finally got sucked in with my love of music and of course the R's. It's great to hear music that I have listened to for nearly 30 odd years being all different styles but most of all some form of dance music. I reckon a lot of us on here have been lucky to go through so many different scenes i.e. disco, soul, rare groove, latin, r&b, rave, house, acid jazz, techno and many more. I'm nearly 50 but I still think I no a good tune when I here one, so as we used to say lets have it!
Ha! should have been this track.

Great to see a few new posters on this thread. It's brilliant that there are so many good tunes out there. Keeping the vibe alive from Rare Groove through to Trance.
You've done a great job LBlock both starting it and steering it in the right direction over the last few months. I think you have copyright on the Frankie Friday brand ! Perhaps you should bring out a few compilations on PlasticFrog Records LOL. Would still be good to have a post Rangers Frankie night some day (Actually while the game was on whilst the Jurassic trio are in charge !)
Can't believe this hasn't been posted but it sums up my feelings on this thread....

Thanks PP, having pirate stations like Girls FM really set the scene for many people. Solar was another one of my favourites back in the day, you could listen to all sorts of genres of dance music which have set my musical tastes.
Anyway here's a curve ball, how about a bit of Go Go as I'm not sure any has had a playing as yet?

Girls FM was the balls Huck Finn recently had regular slots on Passion FM but I havent turned my knob in their direction for a while. Used to love the Friday drivetime slot from about 3pm when Huck was playing and after him the Reverend PhilGood and RAM would take over. Really good old skool tunes. I did have the hump with Huck Finn once when he took over from me at a do in Park Royal -- turned the deck off for the power down with my track and then whacked his opener on without any mixing. Cheeky git!!
There was so many great stations back then Kiss, Centreforce, LWR, Horizon - Green Apple was a favorite in the early 90's for a bit of Hardcore and other genres, there's a few recordings of those days knocking around. However the daddy of them all last 20 or so years has to be Point Blank FM, delivers a wide variety every day and bang on the money from early soul right up to today. They've seen off loads of them!!
Here's a bit of nostalgia for your Sunday morning.... Girls FM...FM... FM... FM.. FM

LBlock bang on with that assessment, there's far to many good DJ's to mention on Point Blank and a personnel fav of mine is Simon Andrews. I cant remember the last time I turned down the volume on a track on his show that I did not like, now that's saying something!
Here's one to all you from the Palais day's.

Lots of oldies that were great to hear again. Wonderful to see all the MAW and Blaze, loved being reminded of all the 90s things like Misjah & Tim and Hardfloor, and going further back to the Detroit and Chicago sounds and then also things like Stakker Humanoid, Papua New Guinea and Atlantic Ocean. Delighted to discover some great tracks that are new to me like the Urban Blues Project, Dina Vass, Grant Nelson...
Two artists are notable by their absence, and I want to rectify.
The first is Kenny Dixon Jr. / Moodymann who I believe has only been represented so far by a Norma Jean Bell very early on. There are a dozen tunes of his that I love, but I'd like to offer up his take of 'People Make the World Go Round'. This has NJB and Amp Fiddler on it too. Fastforward to 4:39 if impatient.
The other is Mateo and Matos. This one always does it for me.

Unfortunately not getting the time recently to read and listen to all the posts on this great thread but fwiw I just want to include five tracks that I've just (re)found from a Todd Terry mix comp on youtube. Some may well have already been posted but at the end of the (Mon)day so what if they have, they're still classics, imo. Speed Garage has taken a bit of a hit on here recently, all I can say is that from personal experience there was nothing better thn grooving out on the garage floor at the Paradise Club until the sunday sun came up...
Keep them comin, keep them comin, yeah, post 'till you can't, post 'till you can't post no more...

I love that Innerzone orchestra track (as well as the original) and have known it a long time. I never knew it was Moodymann though. And you are right that his exclusion from this thread was surprising

Cant place where that hook has been sampled
Love a bit of D.I.S.C.O
It is familiar isn't it L? I am not sure either but I am sure someone on here will recognise it. I am partial to a bit of Disco as well. Love the strings and arrangements. I owe a lot of this to Dave Lee AKA Joey Negro as he has championed that sound for ever.
Here is my favourite track from another alto ego of his.

Okay .... my last one till Friday but with a little quip.
This one jumped into my head and I used the lyric today -- QPR conection so bear with me.
One of our Site Managers says to me today "yeah.. old 'Arry'll keep ya up, he's been arand the block" To which I replied "You are a crazy man"
Been a while since I'd listened to it and it still sounds okay to me all these years on... I was sure I had this on Cowboy Records but looks like I'm wrong
Talking of Cowboy Records, obviously everyone's favourite is Secret Life As Always but one that always did it for me was this one below. Loved the chuggy build and mad vocal drop and hook into an almost totally different tune. I have a vivid memory of Danny Rampling dropping this one late doors at a do called Slippery When Wet in Curtain Road. That was probably one of the BEST warehouse parties I ever went to. Pure crazy night with some right blinding little Gary Abletts helping us on the way -- still talk about the nutter dressed as a Doctor at that one!!
Friday soon come
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal
