Puel Confirms Injury News Ahead Of Hull City Game
Friday, 4th Nov 2016 12:54

Claude Puel has confirmed who will be fir and who won't be for the trip to Hull City on Sunday afternoon.

Claude Puel has spoken about his squad for the visit to Hull City and the news is that there is nothing new to report, on the good side there is no new injuries from last nights win over Inter Milan, but the bad news is that none of the players missing from the squad through injury in the past couple of weeks are fit enough to be in contention for the trip to Humberside.

"I don't think we will see the squad change for this week, because all the injured players are still unavailable, like Long, Targett, Hesketh and Pied, We don't change the squad.”

The Frenchman hopes the upcoming international break will provide a little more time without missing games for the injured players to get closer to fitness.

On commenting on this question Puel also made reference to the situation with Cedric Soares who has been absent without much information given since his injury at Leicester City almost five weeks ago.

"I hope so, we will see this for example with Soares perhaps he comes back the next week for the training sessions and after, for other players, we will see this."

“The international break is always difficult, because we are going to have many players selected for international games and they cannot recover, but it's a good thing also, because the squad is good, with good players and international players, and for the future this will be important.”

If we keep making wholesale changes to the team there must be a risk that Puel's much alluded to 'team efficiency' will decline. Whilst it is good on the one hand to rest players to keep them fitter, settled teams nearly always fare better than those that are always being chopped and changed. Look at Leicester last season.

It was evident last night that we made many mistimed and misplaced passes just because players didn't know where others were or where they should have been. This isn't a criticism of Puel's rotation policy as such just a note of caution.

Last night we had a winning team so why not start with that same team and see how it goes. Lots of strength on the bench to replace tired legs and more eager players on the bench trying to win their places back rather than if they just take it for granted they'll be playing every other game come what may.

SaintBrock, I didn't notice that many misplaced passes but in an ideal world I agree. With us active in three competitions at present resulting in two fixtures a week, I think there has to be an element of rotation.

There has to be rotation but I'm unconvinced that the players understand the system our manager is asking them to play as it looks different to me every game I watch.

halftimeorange I'm sure Claude will take time out to explain his methods to you. Me, I haven't a clue but as long as we keep winning and play exciting football I couldn't care less.
I do know that games are coming thick and fast and players need to rest so we have to have a rotation policy.

2 games a week at present, Purls doing a great job resting those more 'fragile' players Austin, blooding youngsters McQueen, giving older players a breather Fonte and recuperating players Bertrand and JRod.

We're competitive in all competitions at the moment. Fantastic work or beginner's luck for someone with 17 years experience and 80 odd European 'cup' games under his belt. Just can't decide.

Its becoming really clear Jay rod needs to go out on loan at Christmas. he's got no pace left and needs a full run of games where I can't see him getting here at saints considering the rotation system. We desperatley need a new striker, that's clear for all to see.
