Media Goes Strangely Silent About Koeman
Thursday, 9th Jun 2016 10:17

After a week of rumour after rumour about Ronald Koeman and his move to Everton the media has either grown bored, run out of leaked stories or something is amiss with the deal.

A week ago the press went big on the story that Ronald Koeman was off to Everton, fuelled by leaks from both Koeman's agent and the former Arsenal employees now working for new Everton shareholder Moshiri at Goodison Park, the media were convinced that Koeman would be Everton manager by Friday evening, then Saturday morning, then definitely Saturday evening when Koeman's agent said the deal was done, then perhaps not Sunday morning but Sunday evening after his agent retracted his previous statement, then certainly Monday before Koeman went on Holiday.

On Tuesday it was announced that Saints and Everton had agreed terms, that was for a whole hour before the Toffee's themselves announced that they hadn't.

By Wednesday the media had stopped speculating, suggesting either their is a hiccup in the deal or it is about to happen, certainly though something is holding it up and it is unsure whether it is Koeman himself, Saints in their demands or if the Toffee's are getting cold feet.

Whatever the reason no one seems to be briefing the media and most of the attention surrounding Saints seems to be regarding Frank De Boer and his imminent arrival at St Mary's not the departure of his perhaps to be predecessor.

One good thing is that Eddie Howe seems to be ruling himself out of the job whic is a little bit like me announcing that I am not interested in being the singer in U2 should Bono leave.

So what is happening ?

Some are saying that Saints should be taking the lead here and making a statement, but the truth is there is little to say, the club are paying it right at the moment, not commenting on after all what is only speculation, of course as Saints have not agreed compensation with the Merseyside club and given permission for Koeman's agent to meet with them, this meeting cannot have happened so how can Saints comment on it.

Saints supporters should trust in the club to get things right, the people demanding a statement are the same ones who in the next breath will berate Les Reed for making a statement 3 weeks ago that new contract talks were going well.

So in the current situation it is best to let matters take their course and trust the club to get it right, after all they have done over the past two years.

Ignore the press speculatio, most of it is just that speculation rehashed and rehashed again from stories with little substance.

If you want to read between the lines then look at what the Echoare saying and Adam Blackmore of Radio Solent, they are the journalists closest to the club, any message the club want to get out will come via these channels at the moment as in the story that Dusan Tadic for instance will be likely to stay and that that only one member of the squad has any real loyalty to Koeman.

All will become clear in the next couple of days, but the club appear to be preparing for every possibility and they are not being brow beaten by Everton hence the fact that no agreement has been reached, it will be on Saints terms and Saints terms only, otherwise the deal will not happen with the club prepared to pay Koeman to spend a year on gardening leave for the remainder of his contract if neccessary.

Southampton are now a well run and strong club, much stronger than we were two years ago.

It's not over until the fat lady sings.....are there more twists and turns to go? I can't believe this has dragged out this long....surely if he was going to move he would have interrupted his second holiday? By the way....before I get comments....Saints fan for 60 years+....new to the site and.....the real original Everton is in Hampshire......

TH, was this whispered to you faintly whilst you were hugging a tree, or is there any actual substance to it? Can you reveal your source?

I have heard that RK's previous agent wanted him to stay at Saints. He moved to a new agent well before the season ended, and within a few days stories were out that EFC wanted RK and had been in touch with agent. This suggests that he had already decided well before the season ended that he would be leaving. And also before he made numerous comments that he was staying. Unsavoury, but that's modern football. It's how we got Austin, so we can't complain really.

I everyone needs to stop even contemplating a "change of heart." His position is now untenable and we just need to press ahead and get a replacement in so he can convince the current squad to stay and/or extend contracts, obviously less anyone who we're happy to let go.

I agree with WS that Konman's position is untenable, but until he signs for my village side, Saints are in limbo....Why the delay? Has he had second thoughts after a guided tour of Birkenhead and Stanley Park. The thought of getting a perm, darkening his hair and having a translator following him around must be daunting. Is Blackpool really a swap for Sandbanks?

I love this site as you help put my mind at rest and help me keep calm about our club. Hate what's happening to our club. I don't want to lose Koeman. But whatever happens I'm sure we will get through it like we always do.

Announcement to be made when RK comes back off holiday. The hold up before he went was the no poaching clause, which is, as Everton pointed out, against FA, EUAFA and FIFA rules. So it seems that there is no clause to prevent transfers between the two clubs. That shouldn't be a worry to Saints if the players want to stay.
What we need to know now is, did Everton do everything above board, or were there shenanigans going on? We know that RK was Moshiri's No1 choice, but would he have done anything at all to get him. It would piss me off to know we'd been underhand in any way.

Think you were more overhand than underhand ElGreco. The latter implies a certain subtlety. I am sure your new man can cope with any fines that are levied as they wont be more than 50p

SanMarco nailed it about the no poaching clause.
Personally I think that was something just made up by a 'source' to the Mirror.
No club is obliged to accept any offer for your players. So why would Saints ever want a clause that blocked offers from any club that were pitched at a level that we would want to accept? Nonsense. If Everton are foolishly flashing the cash, I'm sure Saints would be as keen to take advantage of that as any other club. We certainly aren't scared of Evertons new 'wealth'

And whilst all this is going on the clock keeps ticking toward the start of the season on August 13 with no manager currently in place.

Even though this is the case we are told through the Echo that Pelle is in talks with other clubs. Is it not possible that the new manager may wish to retain the services of a player who has scored thirty goals over the last two seasons for us and is expected to lead the line for Italy at the Euros?

If the Echo is correct, then who at St Mary's is making decisions in allowing a contracted player to talk to other clubs? One thing is for sure, it is not the manager as we have not got one! Therein may well be he answer as to why Mr Koeman will not be with us on August 13.

He is on holiday that's why there is a holdup as Everton want to unveil him at a press conference with the Iranian alongside him to say look what I have done for you.
