What should the club do now (assuming no imminent change of owners)?
at 19:06 25 Nov 2024

Wow - I put up a topical poll, which others just respond to in the traditional fashion, and that's your mealy-mouthed comeback! Maybe see a therapist to get over your pathological obsession with me?

(Someone just emailed me, just fyi, to call you a 'vindictive little prick', which seems about right.)

And not forgetting Idris Olasupo and Jess Basilva, the two passengers who were unlawfully killed.

What a reckless waste of three young lives!

We all have deaf and blind spots, you idiot! I've already pointed out one regarding MC's interview in August telling us he was happy with recruitment etc. as a counter-narrative to the 'Nourry is the Devil' thesis. That's me being a 'contrarian' for some, apparently, by, uh, pointing out journalistic facts. Here it is again in case you missed it:

Don't think the poster is asking for names and addresses - just something to back up 'ITK'-type responses that purport to be more than just opinion.

It would help, to state the obvious, if the club could show some transparency about recruitment, management, and targets/expectations etc., but it looks like that's not going to happen.

There are worse ideas right now, though it would surely send Celar's spirits irrecoverably through the floor.

Celar's deepening nightmare leaves QPR well adrift – Report
at 22:18 24 Nov 2024

I've said my piece on this, but whatever the logistics in Clive's writing life, it still feels a bit weirdly unsttling to me to be ostensibly supporting the manager while preparing a piece on his departure - a bit like telling a friend how much you love him while writing his funeral euology! (For a bit of context, I'm enough of a primititive poet to feel that when you use words to conjure anything, it gives them a reality, which is why I worry.)

I suspect the emotive support for Marti and the hatred/scapegoating of Nourry is a more dubious dichotomy than some can bear to admit and may actually be a psychological denial of a more equivocal underlying attitude that might be more authentic. Black and white thinking is so much comforting to some than cultivating complexity. At any rate, and as I've pointed out, Marti told the press less than three months ago he was pretty much entirely satisfied with our summer recruitment, so the Nourry /Cifuentes love-hateism needs at least to be somewhat curdled regardless.

The point is I can't decide, as, in regard to a number of points I've made (including, with evidence, my point that Marti was actually very happy with his squad on 31 August), these simply haven't been forthcoming, so there's not actually anything to discuss.

As I've surmised, I think there's a human-all-too-human tendency on this board for some to prefer magnifying minor ad hominem spats/wounded amour propre at the expense of actually having an adult debate. Most human groupings do tend toward cultism (scapegoating, projecting, idealisation etc.), of course.

(And, yes, I can sometimes get dragged into the above disreputable mud-slinging, before the barrage of abuse from the usual suspects gets hurled my way.)

I don't have any 'golden rules', so you're a self-justifying, over-generalising, caricaturing, wriggling-on-the-stick of your own words, sir! I'd say, of the two of us, all the evidence (self-righteousness, self-denial etc. etc) suggests you're the tacky narcissist.

Whn Marti plays him as a winger/attacking forward, he flourishes. As a wing back, which he's also tried when needs appeared to must, he's neutered.

He's been excellent, which also proves that the recruitment team aren't all bad.

It was a bit surprising none of the post-match debriefs picked up on Marti's yellow, which seems to have been waved around the time of our penalty, even more weirdly. Does anyone know what it was about?

QED! You protest no one on this board is 'mean and nasty', and call me a 'narcissist clown' in the next breath. It's just embarrassing!

Do you own a mirror yourself? if not, maybe buy one and have a look into it, you projecting twit!

As a writer, I love words, but I'm sadly crap at Scrabble! Glad I'm helping you enlarge your word horde though, with my pomposity, persecution complex, and pornographic proclivities! It's truly fascinating to learn so much about myself (or rather abour others) from people who don't know me at all.

Unlike, it seems, a number on this board, I don't really care a jot about the 'who' behind postings here; I mostly just care about what's being said. Most of what I write reflects this, and is suitably resourced, as in my last post citing an interview Marti gave in August to try to challenge the misleading idea that he's been moaning abour recruitment since Reading. Just for once, it would be nice if actual counter-arguments like this were acknowledged. It would make the place seem a bit more adult.

When I think something wrong, I'll call it out with reasons. If my points are succcessfully counter-argued, I'm glad to accept it. Most of the time, however, I find they're not. The rest is, of course, speculation and opinion, which is what makes a superbly trivial board like this a chaotic kind of para-footballing fun - at least some of the time.

PS I'm sure this innocuous post will still elicit the priggish 'ignores' and supercilous sneers from the usual one or two, but it's really water off a duck's back.

Good to get rid of people who don't like to discuss things, and prefer to scapegoat people who make arguments they don't like as 'contrarians' and other idiocies. What a relief!

The point is we don't know (when he signed his contract), but I'm not even sure why this is relevant. He did sign it, and thereby agreed to work under the current regime.

In fact, Marti made a clear statment that he was almost entirely satisfied with our summer recruitment at the end of August, so I'm not sure where this idea that he's been seething with resentment since pre-season is now coming from:

https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/sport/im-very-stubborn-marti-cifuentes-provides-a

When asked if he was fully satisfied with QPR’s transfer business, Cifuentes replied:

“Almost. I’m very stubborn. I think we have got to a good point. I value that we have made a big shift. It is not easy with a big transition in where we are as a club, with a manager that came in the middle of last season, a CEO that came in the middle of last season. With lots of changes in the staff and the squad. Those things will take time. I’m convinced that we have signed some good players and now it is about being patient and being calm. My job is to make sure that the pieces start to work together as soon as possible.'

In his own words, he's now not doing his 'job', therefore (or not doing it very well), or he's not a very good judge of players, or he's a better tactician when it comes to adjusting his professional image than he appears to be on the pitch. Or possibly all three.

It's not so much what my point is as what your counter-point is, which I struggle to see.
