Stockport 3 - 3 QPR
at 09:33 10 Jan 2025

You'd have to go that bit further for the 5-5 at home to Newcastle in 1984.

I've been fortunate to have been at that game, plus the Port Vale 4-4 and the Stockport revival. If the footage in the OP is the one I've seen before, you can see my us Manc R's around our flag. Stockport was a bit of a 'derby' fixture and we always met at the Working Men's Club behind the away end before and after. Which was a cracking venue, cheap as chips and we'd be home in time for 'North West Tonight'.

Q: What's worse than pessimism from QPR fans?

A: When QPR fans are optimistic before an FA Cup game.

I've detected a worrying degree of pre-game confidence and as anyone who has attended QPR cup games (should) know: that's dangerous. Especially if we're on a bit of form and the oppo (irrespective of what division they're in) are struggling.

I'm really worried we might actually win and if we do, WTF do we do then?

If climate change still has to be raised for some, then I fsuspect they just not going to get it.

The issue has long gone past the point of no return. These COPs are a waste of time, and are COP-OUTS!! Frankly, we'd be better off focusing on how to best manage what's coming.

However, Africa does get disproportionately higher coverage on the BBC and Al Jazeera because they pay a fair bit of advertising, as I was told by a journo at Al J.

However, the issue for me is that when 'something' happens in the US, the BBC news drops everything and is straight over there, when it wouldn't do so elsewhere as you say Brian. But secondly, when the story has yet to unfurl, and even when it's clearly not going to amount to much, they just keep their camera rolling and often all you can see are rotund coppers standing around doing nothing. Yesterday's 'live' coverage of tubby Yanks waddling past Jimmy Carter's coffin for ages, while they repeatedly played Kamala Harris' eulogy of sorts, was embarrassing.

Compounded by the Beeb desperately try to find someone to interview only to then frequently ask the most banal of questions. I once heard words to these effect after some random shooting: 'And did people look scared when they heard the shots?'

They going to have an absolute vvankfest over the inauguration and for the next four years of the orange manbaby.

I'm sure there's a fighter squadron somewhere in which their grandfathers were stationed during WW2.

I know Daniel, but there's really no point invading the Falklands to teach South Americans a lesson when we've already got them!

I read a piece on Man City's hiring of a plane to take the team to Leicester as I recall.

However, if a 20 minute flight wasn't bad enough, it's the fact that the plane they took had to fly down from Aberdeen empty and after depositing their precious darlings back in Manchester, return to Scotland, empty!

The piece then went on to cite a range of similar examples of premier league private jet pampering. Given the state of the environment, and the game's protestations about going carbon neutral, what a load of bollards...which, given the amount of bollards on the motorways, is probably why they are collecting loads of airmiles!

Well, yes, of course, there is a bit of chuckle to be had at such skulduggery. But you just know if we were on the end of it, they'd be all sorts of calls for reprisals on here.

I remember watching Ray Wilkins playing for England berate some South American pup for not giving him the ball back to quickly take a throw on. I'm not saying it was the reason why we went to war with the Argies a few years later, but I bet one of Thatcher's cabinet must have mentioned it as a factor to consider as to why we should retake the islands.

Since then, no South American ball boys have delayed handing the ball back to an England player. Albeit that we somewhat let the whole 'Hand of God' slide in my view and lead indirectly to Ronaldinho taking further liberties in 2002! He wouldn't have dared such cheek if we'd have taken say, the Galapagos Islands after Maradona's impudence.

Hmm, I wonder how we'd have reacted if the shoe were on the other foot?

For my money, that's not on. Not sure if he plays in one of our young teams, but if I were QPR I'd say sorry lad, you might have thought you were helping, but that's not on and we're not having you back.

State Pension
at 12:08 6 Jan 2025

I did continue to pay in after I left the UK and I would if I were in their shoes.

They can call the international line for UK state pensions on +44 (0) 191 218 7777. I'm all paid up, but I think you need 35 years for the full monty and you can go back and pay 5 years worth of contributions for unpaid years. Either way, they can call that number or an IFA for up to date and better advice.

It's somewhat ironic that I have just come off the phone from talking to one of my old employers about my plans for their pension which I have to take when I hit 60...seriously, where da fook did all the years go?
