He's a football journalist working for The i newspaper. He has also written for The Telegraph, Daily Mirror, BBC, The Guardian & Sky Sports. Seems to me, particularly with this article, he knows what he is talking about! |

An article by Daniel Storey of the i just about sums it up perfectly :- "Another four goals conceded, another superbly damning xG scoreline: Southampton 0.13-4.01 Brighton. When the good news from your Saturday afternoon is that your team probably should have lost by six or seven goals at home and didn’t, it must be tempting to take the rest of the season off. "I’m honestly getting sick of watching Southampton and writing about them. They are a joke because they play as if they are in mid-table comfort. I understand that heads have gone down because relegation has looked a certainty from October onwards and it must be hard to play in front of supporters who are going out of habit and grim loyalty rather than expectation. "But my goodness: try to give them something to be proud of. Nobody is calling for prison-rule football, but my goodness it is frustrating to watch how easy opposition teams have it against Southampton, and I’m not even a supporter. There seems to be no plan for creating chances or stopping their opponents creating them, but worse than that there seems to be no ambition to make life harder for the other team. "Nobody tracks runs. Nobody seems to want to sprint to put a tackle in. Nobody wants to defend for their lives other than as a tardy reaction to a mistake, either in technical prowess or concentration. Everybody seems to act as if ugly football is beneath them, rather than a typical ingredient of a promoted club battling to stay up (or, in this case, avoid points records). "I can take my club losing most weeks. I cannot take my club looking like they accept defeat without putting up a fight nor having a logical strategy to avoid conceding three or four goals in every game." Most of us have been thinking along these lines for a while, what concerns me is why doesn't the club hierachy see it? |

To be fair to him, he's 47 now & been injured for 16 years! |

Of course it hurts, we left on 87 minutes but it seems some have accepted both our performances and fate? This is by far the worst team, representing Southampton, I have ever seen in my 40+ years of support. We looked poor under RM, due to our lack of speed in transition and instruction to maintain possession at all costs. However we now have absolutely no structure what so ever and today were a complete shambles. I've had a couple so will quit now but FFS we don't have the worst squad in the PL and if we set up properly we might just break the 11 point mark???? |

If you paly with wing backs it inevitably causes the CB's to drift wider apart to cover the space left by the wing backs. This is why we play two central midfielders and the second and third goals, particularly the third were from unchallenged runs through that midfield. Personally I would rather play a tighter back four and maybe but only maybe we wouldn't leak so many goals, as we clearly don't have the forwards to score them! |

Part of this is the aftermath of the RM era, where we got the ball back into play asap. Something that I could never quite understand, particularly when not behind, and then pee around at the back when you're losing? The substitutions definitely cost us last night and going defensive allowed them to press us higher but the again we have no one to replace either Dibling or Fernandes in the squad? |

Totally agree horrible place & not an enjoyable experience. Might improve slightly if we could actually win there! |
