Fulham 11:42 - Nov 12 with 2753 viewshoof_hearted

I went to up the Arsenal on Saturday. Fulham look good - Berbatov and Ruiz are going to cause mayhem for plenty of defences. Their fans were plentiful and noisy (it being London).

But most importantly, I have never heard another team, at a top game not involving us, sing an anti-QPR song. I was swelling with pride.

"Al Fayed, oh oh oh oh
Al Fayed, oh oh oh oh
He wants to be a brit
And QPR are sh!t"

Fulham fans call us Bitters yet all they do is go on about us. One of their forum's over the summer was a QPR-obsessed-fest.

I must admit that with the players they lost, they'd be a good bet to go down but they've regrouped well and are looking solid. Fulham fans go on about being a stable club and take the pi$$ out of our current situation but convieniently forget (or maybe simply just don't know) they they did exactly the same a decade or so ago.
They posted for two seasons running the biggest deficit of any PL club, only to be overtaken the 3rd year by Chelsea but Fulham were still effectively the 2nd worst.
The club owes it's owner well over £200m so they are not really as stable as they claim and because the owner will never call in the debt the club is not seen as being as in a big financial problem as they actually are.

They weren't exactly in our current situation though - they finished 13th in their first season back, and survived in the second.

I thought I'd hate the idea of billionaire takeover at QPR - just never thought it would be the same - but actually started to enjoy it when I could see the likes of Buzsaky.
Then I was very reluctant to see us sign a load of stars in a haphazard manner as we did in the last two transfer windows - didn't want us to become big-time Charlies. But after the Chelsea game this season, I must admit I felt quite a thrill at being able to come out of the match thinking "we've got a draw not through luck, but through having a lot of quality in the team".
Seriously thought we'd fly up the table after that...oh how misguided.

And now not only are we rich, we're diabolical, and that's what I can't take. I've got used to being sh*t over the years and was probably more patient than any fans. Now, paying a manager and players so much, I cannot take it.

At least Fulham came up with money and thrilled the Premier League a bit(I remember wanting them to lose 5-0 every game at the time, it was our first year in the third division). Didn't they nearly beat ManU away in their first game?

Their progress since, debts or not, means I really can't slag them off or even take the piss out of them with a straight face.

You sound like Swiss Tony now Konk.

I honestly think I love the bloke. I find myself wondering what Berbatov's up to when he's not training - probably reading something European and challenging whilst smoking and drinking Congac in a second hand bookshop.

This is where foreigners have undermined the traditional English game.

We lost 3-2 at United after leading twice. Great game with a sh it result.

We were chatting about Rangers after our game on Saturday and my lot are all surprised that things haven't happened for Hughes at LR. You've got some decent/good players and even the ones that aren't all that should still be good enough to do a job in a pretty mediocre division. And whilst Hughes isn't the coach he thinks he is, he did a good job with us, Blackburn and Wales. I'm not watching Rangers every week, but from the outside I'd be tempted to stick with him in the hope that your run can't go on forever and there are enough limited sides in the division to see you safe if you start picking up some points.

Yeah, exactly. He probably helps out a couple of afternoons a week too. And captains their pub quiz team. Legend.

Hello mate,

All valid points, but worth noting that included in that £200m figure is the cost of buying back and redeveloping The Cottage, buying the land for and building our training ground, the purchasing of 400,000 rumble sticks and clappers and a statue of Michael Jackson. It hasn't all gone on players and wages. Over the fifteen years that Al Fayed's been at the club, there have been some years where he's put his hand in his pocket more enthusiastically than others, but I think we're actually made a profit for each of the past three years.

I think we're a well-run club now - 26,000 average, 4,000 increase to capacity in the pipeline for what will be premium priced tickets and more corporate hospitality. 30,000 will be fine for us, we have an excellent youth set-up, a decent first team and we're now getting to the point of being an established Premier League club. Obviously it wouldn't take much for things to go wrong overnight, but at the moment we don't have much to moan about.

yeah, what's your point?

thought this year you might struggle and we'd coast to mid-div......

then again

That was pretty much how my optimistic self saw things until the West Ham and West Brom games, where we set up so so badly and with so little idea what we were doing that I began to doubt.

After the Reading game, where we proved ourselves incapable of learning lessons we were taught just a month ago, I was utterly despairing. We have the air of a team destined for the drop.

If we don't win on Saturday I'd suggest we're a write-off for the season.

Just to add, I was nowhere near this level of desperation when Warnock was sacked.

Oh Konk. Schoolboy error.

You have no idea how many people have bookmarked this thread to remind you of it when any of the following occur:-

1. Berbatov goes off with his new lover, Cantona, to become a sardine fisherman and trainee monk.

2. Jol's head grows so big that he strangles himself whilst dressing.

3. Michael Jackson turns out to be alive and living inside his own statue ogling ladies (yes - he's turned funny)

4. Fulham take less than a million away fans to any away game in the next decade.

5. Other premier league teams look at the teamsheet and realise that Sidwell and Baird are the one's charged with getting the ball to the strikers.

6. Just to show your wif/girlfriend/mother/mate(s).

1. I will always love Berbatov and my only wish is that he’s happy and looks back on his time at Fulham as the best days of his extraordinary life.

2. Martin Jol is a big Dutch bear of a man with an appropriately sized head. It suits him just fine.

3. No comment.

4. Now that we’re on the verge of becoming the best team in the world, I fully expect us to sell-out every away game unless the game is on the telly, there’s engineering works, ticket prices are too high or inclement weather is forecast.

5. We’re better than the sum of our parts and have been that way since Roy was at the club.

6. My wife knows exactly how I feel about Berbatov — we had a frank discussion at about 00:30 on Saturday night when I woke her up to discuss his performance at Arsenal.

You mean your wife was in the same bed as you after a Saturday skinful and celebrating a point at the Emirates? You're truly blessed. I'm guessing she wasn't putting out, though (or you don't have a spare room in your Fulham slum).

Simple answer: He's not one of Kia Joorabchian's players.
