Very sad indeed. Used to see Brian regularly, most recently when he was delivering medicines from the local pharmacy. He was a nice bloke. We had many a debate about football matters, especially Dale.

Farewell, Brian. 'Twas a pleasure to be in your company.

Shocked with that news, although he didnt look very well when i last saw him a few months ago. Shared many a pint with Brian at Littleborough cricket club and he was a well liked and respected man, he could talk for England but was always very interesting to listen too. Thoughts are with his family, RIP Brian.

Like to add to TS's post.

Had a few brief chats with Brian, usually testing his memory about some information from the 70s.

Saw him a couple of weeks ago and remarked how he seemed to have aged.

RIP Brian

Sorry to hear this. He produced a hard to beat side with no money abd very low crowds.
Not to take anything away from the statement announcing his death but I should comment he was not the first ex manager to manage the club - at least one other did so - Tony Collins in the 60's played and managed.
RIP Brian and thanks for your part in our history.

Think he played for Dale with Frank Lord and that has to be around 1957 before Frank went to Crewe, but I`m sure somebody will put me right on this. Does anybody know if Tony Collins is still alive? Last I heard he was living in Rochdale somewhere.

had this sent in:

Hi,

As a family we just wanted to thank you so so much for the tribute to my
dad, it all happened very suddenly and was totally unexpected. He was a
Rochdale lad though and through and gained many great friends through people
associated to the club and was always very welcomed when he went up to
games. He was only until recently still playing squash up at Rochdale
cricket club and then enjoyed a couple of drinks up at littleborough cricket
club at weekends. He'll be sadly missed by us all, and as a family we can't
thank you enough for the lovely tribute, I think he'd have loved that.
Thank you again
Simon Green

That's true, kirbys. The 'bible' says he was the first Dale manager who wasn't promoted from within.

There's a piece here on Brian from the website of one of his Norwegian clubs. It's been translated from Norwegian using Google Chrome but you get the gist of it.

'In 1980, Englishman Brian Green. It was not so much heavy exercise, it was used a lot more ball games and during training sessions. Player meetings were also different. Things became easier and there was more humor. Green was the coach at Carlow in 1980-1981 and 1982. In these three years were two silver medals. It seems that Green's lightweight training methods triggered something in the team that made these results, but without the foundation that was laid by the previous coach, it is unlikely that one would get these results. In 1983, the new coaching change and probably once was a foreign, as in our neighboring country Sweden. Kent Karlsson joined Bryne with some coaching experience in the Allsvenskan. His training methods were Nordic and more physical exercise than its predecessor. It was probably necessary after three years of "lighter" exercise. Endurance and strength had decreased slightly enough these three years. Karlsson was at Carlow for three years. The results were somewhat mixed with a 4 place as the best in 1984.'

Isnt it that he was the first ex player to later return to the club as manager?

Surely he wasn't the first not to be promoted from within - Stokoe came from outside as did others in the 50s and before.

A great guy who always had time for the supporters - sadly missed

Yes, sorry, poorly worded. I was just following up kirby's earlier post.

You would expect the club to respect this tomorrow - lets hope they do.

Quite correct to pull me up on my statement - I meant to say Ex Player.
Very nice statement from his family giving us an insight into his later life and enduring passion for Dale.

It's really bizarre that this obvious "dodgy-link" merchant should bump a page from 7 years ago to peddle whatever he is pushing (no way I'm clicking on that link). Not tech savvy enough to know, but I suspect a techbot was behind this?
