Williams out on 11:53 - Dec 20 by Whiterockin | Abdulai has been a decent player for the u21s even when out wide, I expect Williams is hoping he will just click. But with the continual basic mistakes he makes there is no way I would put him in midfield. For some the step up is just too great is it nerves, confidence or just not good enough, who knows. |
I’ve only watched a handful of U21 games online, but they look like training games. Good to watch and plenty of skill on display, but they aren’t as quick or aggressive as league games. I think he’s struggling with that more than the fact he’s playing out wide. The fact he only gets 10 minutes or so probably doesn’t help him either.

I'm surprised he does well on the wing for the u21s as he no pace, it will show no matter what level you play.

He is a powerful strong runner with skill. He gives movement has excellent control and never gives the ball away. He can pull away from his markers. I saw him 10+ time and he was always DMF or box to box midfield. His movement caused a lot of problems for u21 defences. He created space. He is not a sprinter but neither is Grimes, Fulton or Franco. He needs to go on loan unless Williams plays him. Swansea have given years of love and patience to local talents like Ollie Cooper and Cullen. Only after 4 years outside the u21 only recently Cullen showing his talent for Swnsea and Wales.

Williams out on 23:25 - Dec 29 with 1248 views | RichardO | He has only been here a year and not a full season, we will see who comes in if anybody on the playing front this window to add to the squad if nobody comes in then he will just have to get the players already here up to scratch. A number of our players are on long contracts that the club could benefit from, the starting eleven seems fixed and if you look at that eleven there is a good couple of years left in most of them to build a team on. Would be nice to do both Portsmouth and WBA so we go into the transfer window looking a good prospect for some aspiring young talent or a quality player who might have lost there way.

Williams out on 10:24 - Dec 30 with 1027 views | RichardO | It would appear both QPR and Luton games both suited as the attacking team, QPR didn't really press with any conviction until the second half but asoppose to other games the job had been done in the first . As for Luton they got the press right and the error came, luckily for us it was so early and did they play into our hands by dropping off leaving us play, for all Williams talk of playing the correct way, our two goals where scored by putting the ball in the mixer as we mounted the pressure on them not by tapping it across the front of the penalty box not taking the oppountites to shoot, was it a case that both QPR and Luton allowed us to attack which thankfully we were able to exploit with the added bonus of the sending off, we had a couple of bonuses like that under Martin as I remember. So are we still at the point where we know we can score goals but don't know if pressure is exerted on us whether we would crumble or not? With Franco seemingly out of action for a number of games we shall see as I'm sure his loss will have an impact but hoping not!

As usual, a fair appraisal of the way we played. I will disagree on one thing though. I don’t like the tapping from side to side but I don’t like to see us taking long range shots either, it smacks of desperation. We had an extra player and that should have been used to better effect yesterday as an overlap or as a decoy. It seemed we struggled more when they went down to ten. I think it was Rodgers who said that he used to do a lot of work on the training ground to exploit the extra man in those circumstances. Doesn’t seem the case now.

We know Darling has a good shot but so far out is ineffective, shooting on the edge of the box is another thing but static players who can generate power from a static position are a bonus Piroe and Ntcham, the space to shoot has to be create with forward movement not lateral. Players need at times need to come out of the box to create it in the box and vice versa to create it on the edge.

As soon as they went a player down they went from two up front to one. Packed the midfield and did away with the width condensing the space and making it difficult for us.

Plenty of teams have done that against us closing the space down even with eleven men hoping to catch us on the break.

Fulton in the short term, be interesting to see who comes on now as Fulton starts flagging. Southampton might be a good game to give a start to the odd youngster to see how they fit in, looking at a long term solution in the middle of midfield as opposed to Fulton, especially as there is no longer any pressure to beat a team managed by Martin.🙄

Depends on how long range, Darlings effort WAS a waste. Why can't we play one two's on the edge of the box, pass a ball into feet, back in comes and then smack it, not from 30 yards but around 20, we should be able to do it. It cam be done on local pitches so the pro's should be able to manage it. We need better movement, too many players are staic just moving the ball back and fore, we need runs, decoy runs fake shots. We do the same thing a lot and it's predictable. I don't think we struggled more but the goal was atad ironic given how we usually play, we don't win many headers in attack.

When team stack the box a tad ironic will do nicely if it gives us 3 points, we tried the short corners was tried them because of their tall defenders but Cabango and Darling are good weapons in the box if used properly, two scrappy goals using all the weapons we got even big six foot plus loanees or smaller midfield dynamos
