Cullen misses another gold plated cross with his head. 12:54 - Oct 20 with 3482 views | ReslovenSwan1 | I watched Cullen s debut v Palace in the league cup alongside Dan James under Potter. The kids played well. Tyler Reid put in a lovely Cross and it sort of hit Cullen and w ent for a corner. He was18-19.He was a not positioned to head the ball and if fact never looked confident. The ball dribbled for a goal kick. Only 18 at the time he had a few seasons to develop. Yesterday 7-8 years later Ronald got a cross in and again Cullen was not positioned and got under the ball and again never looked keen to bury it. Swansea city have never produced a quality centre forward in for the academy or CoE. Cullen is the best over 30 years and millions spent. If I was Coleman I would be asking the head of academy for an explanation. Mr Wright who I have a lot of respect for has been at the club a long time and can give background. This is high level games in one of Europe's big leagues. It may seem like picking on him but now there is nowhere to hide. How can a centre forward in the academy for 14 years not be able to head the ball on target from 5 yards? Kuharevych would have buried that chance. [Post edited 20 Oct 13:18]

Cullen misses another gold plated cross with his head. on 14:03 - Oct 20 with 1984 views | jack247 | For Kukhareyvch read Vipotnik. Either would have buried it from the position Cullen was in. Whether they’d have had the subtle movement to peel off the defender and get on the end of a floated cross from that angle is debatable. We didn’t see enough of Kukharevych to really form an opinion, though he hasn’t torn up trees, bar his excellent headed goal against Celtic. From what I’ve seen of Vipotnik, I doubt he would have, but yes, if they’d had Cullens movement I’m sure both would have scored. He couldn’t bury it because he’s too short. Perfect height for either of the other two

I am not a coach but Ayew was a real technician and that was a goal for Andre. No taller than Cullen at a guess.

Agree. Aside from being an all round better player, he had an incredible leap and the ability to hang in the air. He had the timing and vision to get into that kind of position too. He scored a lot of headed goals for someone that height. I’d be more confident in him getting into position and scoring than any of the others mentioned.

The point was about technical ability not wages. Ayew came through a different academy in France and learned the necessary techniques to justify huge wages. He can do every Cullen did not learn the technical skills. The academy. Is it up to the job? There is a reason the academy is not producing local forwards.

If we had Ayew of 5 years ago in our team there would be no issues with goalscoring. The problem is our majority owners would want 10 players for what we were paying him, virtually a full team, puts things into perspective doesn't it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Is it the same reason that our expensive recruitment team have been unable to source a decent forward since Piroe and we have bought several.

If you’re comparing our academy graduates to prime Ayew, you’re always going to be disappointed. Of course, it was better before we got relegated and our owners downgraded it. At least we were bringing prospects like James and McBurnie in then.

I reckon OMcB learned his basics in Bradford early

Cullen misses another gold plated cross with his head. on 15:18 - Oct 20 with 1818 views | builthjack | Cullen just can’t get far off the ground. He jumps standing still, therefore rises about a foot in the air. Poor positioning, he doesn’t give himself a chance. Yates was similar.

Not really the point. We had a category 1 academy and could bring in players like McBurnie, play him in our first team and sell him for a huge profit. We can’t do that anymore.

He needed to be about 7 ft to reach that. Poor cross imo

If it was 7ft cullen would have got nowhere near it. Now if vip was on he would have got it on target at least.

I have has another look at 54m in in the game it should have been 1-1 without a doubt. The cross was PERFECT beating the first defender which is a rare event. Cullen moved toward the ball instead of backing up and meeting the ball lower in the trajectory. Probably only 5-6 cm adjustment needed. Ronald could not have done more. Some players can judge the flight and adapt. It is a skill and a technique. Cullen does not have this and never will. He has been given too many chances and is not up to the job as lone forward. SCFC should have a powerful target man if they are going to put crosses int the box. [Post edited 20 Oct 17:44]

Only way Cullen scores is by either fluke or by having virtually an open goal . He can’t really take a penalty either Not great for a striker

I’m not convinced he’d have got away from the centre back. He’s the most static striker I can remember. He’s had one good header, which he nearly scored from, I think against Bristol City. He’s bigger and stronger, but he’s very easy to mark

Cullen misses another gold plated cross with his head. on 19:56 - Oct 20 by ReslovenSwan1 | He is the best striker to come out of the CoE and academy in 30 years. Jason Bowen was a talented forward but mostly a winger. He is unable or unwilling to do the basics of the no 9 role. I am suggesting the academy has done badly in this position. My agenda is against the academy who are producing big centre backs but no strong forwards. They let Iwan Morgan go. I have high hopes for Woodward but have not seen him yet. Cullen is sadly not improving and I do not like watching him play. He may be OK playing as second striker. His goal v Coventry was a sharp strike from a ricochet. I do not pay big money to watch mediocrity. [Post edited 20 Oct 19:57]

Woodward is real quality, he makes excellent runs it just depends if we have anyone who can lay the ball through to him, hopefully Franco. He certainly knows where the back of the net is.
