I absolutely love the term 'shrewd' when it comes to transfers. You barely hear it anymore except in that context, which is a shame. I always imagained Peter Shreeves to be shrewd. Because of his name sounding a bit like shrewd. But anyway, 'shrewd bit of business' always conjures a manager stroking his jutted chin, eyes narrowed, as he makes a bid no one else would make, for a cost less than perhaps a player is worth, then nodding gently, smiling a little to himself when the bid is accepted. Rules of shrewd signings: - Must never be expensive. - Signed either from a smaller club or from a club that doesn't properly appreciate his skills, which the shrewd manager has spotted. Who was our last shrewd signing? Chrissy Willock I guess.

More shrewd biz from pboro just signed Jack Marriot on a free from Derby. Peterborough dont sell strikers for peanuts. went to Derby undisclosed a couple of years ago. I wonder how much they'll sell him for next time

Rumoured to be in region of £3m with add ons but would imagine non were paid. Ten goals in 79 appearances and none in 12 for Wednesday. Lucky to resign at Peterboro.

Summer transfer rumours thread on 12:58 - Jul 1 by rsonist | https://www.bettingodds.com/news/who-is-markus-schopp-an-in-depth-look-at-the-po Gabriel Sutton on the case finding him hard to pin down, but does make the reasonable argument that Barnsley's squad aren't limited to Ismaelball. They're total unknowns right now but I wouldn't rule out them coming out of this positively all the same. Fair few clubs around on the slide and Schopp does come off quite engagingly in his interview. |
Blimey, seems rsonist can't resist talking Schopp again.

Summer transfer rumours thread on 12:04 - Jul 2 with 5547 views | derbyhoop | Josh McPake gone on season long loan from Rangers, the Glasgow ones, to Morecambe. QPR were allegedly interested,. Which I think is a load of bollox. We're also supposed to be interested in Windass from Wednesday. Chairman values him at £5m. Which is also bollox. Dont know if we are seriously interested but we wont be paying that or anything like.

I saw the Windass rumours this morning. If true, Wed's £5m valuation is way over the top. The Warburton connection while at Rangers is possibly why he's now linked to QPR. I can't see it happening although I think he'd do well with us as a second striker.

I'm assuming it will be for an undisclosed fee at least recouping the 50k we allegedly spent!

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/15488217/qpr-millwall-birmingham-sheffie We could definitely double his wages if he doesn't mind them staying unpaid... Oddly persistent rumour for what is hopefully a load of nonsense cobblers. Not much of a fan of his even if he were free.

Summer transfer rumours thread on 22:18 - Jul 4 with 3731 views | derbyhoop | Kelly to Motherwell. Jordan Archer, ex Millwall and Boro, in as 2nd choice to Seny. Warbs keen on Windass. But unlikely at £5m. Even if we could double his wages. On the basis of 2 x not getting paid is not going to break wage structure.

Not thrilled by this. Archer is a poor goalkeeper and Seny's potential AFCON situation means it's not simnply a case of bench fodder - he's going to be playing in a busy chunk of this season.

Barnes seems to be seen as a prospect to develop (getting games out on loan) rather than a backup to keep around like Archer will be. According to WLS our keeper coach Gavin Ward was "largely responsible" for his signing. I didn't realise Archer had started really well at Wall originally - won POTY in his first season there when they were in League One - before losing his way/blundering into oblivion. Would be known to Chris and Les as a former Spurs kid before that. It's fine, experienced at this level, no expectations to tread on either Seny or Walsh's toes.

Third choice keeper to spend his career with us out on loan or on the bench should Seny get injured.
Summer transfer rumours thread on 13:28 - Jul 5 with 2707 views | rsonist | Oh yeah I forgot about the AFCON thing. Well if Archer is really that bad hopefully it'll be spotted in training and Walsh will be recalled for then. Edit - although now I think about the training videos I've seen and from what little of Walsh there's been he hasn't looked remotely first-team ready. Not to be amazingly harsh or anything! Kind of liked the idea of Lonergan's experience in the squad personally - well-liked at Liverpool and would have maybe had something to teach the kids. [Post edited 5 Jul 2021 13:31]

hmm...what happens if Seny gets injured? We have gone from having 3 average to good senior keepers to 1.

If we manage to get the JoJo deal through as well as Austin and the players already signed. I’ll be able to deal with that.
