Sky Sports sack 3 on 15:06 - Aug 28 by Glossolalia | Merson must surely be there for the comedy factor. I'm glad to see them go frankly. Stale and cliquey. I just hope they get real quality in to replace them, just to make Merson look all the more inept. |
It will be interesting to see who the replacements are, but I've a feeling we won't be that surprised.

Sky Sports sack 3 on 12:22 - Aug 30 with 1395 views | Catullus | I reckon Alex Scott will be there, she's in favour right now. To be fair she's better than several others and yes, the sexist in me has to say I'd rather watch her than LeTiss or Thompson! To be honest I find most pundits bland and boring, they mostly avoid saying anything interesting. Clive Tyldesley manys the time I've seen blatant bad fouls committed only for the little voice to chime in with something like "did he make contact there" and even when a replay shows a potential leg breaker he'll still sit on the fence. Some of the newer pundits at least call it honestly. One of the blandest, mst boring surely has to Garth Crooks. Micah Richards can take over from Crooks every time. As others say, choose the new faces on merit.

Fair enough but my example couldn’t be more different from a “bellend tabloid football writer”. Most of these ex pros simply aren’t capable of broadsheet articles which examine tactical innovation in depth using language that includes words of more than two syllables. Horses for courses I suppose.

This. I'd rather some intelligent follower of the game who's never kicked a ball instead of some thick as shit ex-pro like Merson.

I'm the same. Not having played the game to a high level doesn't mean you can't analyse it and vocalise those thoughts in an articulate and understandable way. It then comes down to opinions and having someone with a different opinion is much more interesting than having some ex pros who largely agree and seem to be getting paid a lot just to have a laugh! I like Stelling though. He can stay!

Sky Sports sack 3 on 11:38 - Aug 31 with 1148 views | britferry | Jeff Stelling holds the whole thing together and its the banter that makes the show, quite often the analysis is poor but thats not why I watch it, I just want to see the scores coming in with a bit of humour. They've built the rapport up over years of working together, dropping new people in won't be the same chemistry, even if they are knowledgable on the game itself. Just look at the BBC show and that head slapper Mohammad, he's so wooden the show doesn't work, regardless of who is there with him.

Football is a simple game mate, don't need some faux intellectuals, trying to sound clever about it. There are a few on forums who do similar. Those that pen those broadsheet articles you mention, are no more qualified with their opinions, they are just able to articulate themselves better than Dai the Milk.

Sky Sports sack 3 on 19:21 - Aug 31 with 1062 views | ReslovenSwan1 | They are going to bring in three smart cosmopolitan young things and have Merse in the dodery uncle roles who thinks Tic Tok is a sugery mint. The humour will be similar to that once owned by Ozzie Osbourne where Merse gets gently ribbed and Jeff protects and defends the old boy on occasion. No other way of working in my opinion. Obviously my opinion is based on working in engineering not advanced media studies for what it is worth.

I like the banter too and it'll come, the chemistry will build and lets face it, as long as Stelling is there, mickey taking and banter will always be there. As with all things new, some patience will be needed while they bed in. Of course it could turn out to be complete, joyless garbage.

And worser. Why the heck were those two pundits covering a major Sky broadcast this evening ? (Iceland game). Race and gender aside, they were cringeworthy. They said nuffink of substance, and said all that nuffinkness appallingly badly. Intelligent parents will be saying to their kids: Now, that's absolutely NOT the way to speak proper english. The ol' BBC brigade will be turning in their resting places.

I like a blend, you've got to have ex-pros as they have genuine insight to what is actually going on (on a pitch, in a team, in a dressing room), but I absolutely agree that there should be at least one (...and it would have to be the presenter) on any football show who has charisma, a skill with words, a sense of humour. I mean, it makes sense, there are 2 jobs going on, analysing a football match and presenting a T.V. show. Remember Des Lynam, he was the master, never kicked a football for money in his life...nobody would claim Gary Lineker does a better job than Des would they? [Post edited 5 Sep 2020 21:27]

Sky Sports sack 3 on 00:49 - Sep 6 with 798 views | ReslovenSwan1 | I want to see pundits who can pronouce foreign names and know facts about opposing teams even Dinamo Minsk. I would expect them to have done some research and take their job seriously. Merson would never have done this and neither would the vast majority of Talksport pundits for example. Today Jermain Backford was saying Callum Wilson at £20m + was a 'nobrainer' a the age of 24 when in fact he is 28. Some morons even say "pay him what he wants"like Cundy. A sackable offence in my book. The best football host is the bloke that does the American football. [Post edited 6 Sep 2020 12:57]

I've seen today that Maya Jama is a candidate after her presenting "Socceraid" succesfully. It's bit different doing punditry on the pro game to doing a charity match! I'd stick with Alex Scott. She ticks diversity boxes, black, woman, ex pro and she talks more sense than Merse too.
