Being over here in Australia and only watching SFC on the box at all sorts of ungodly hours, I am interested to know if anyone knows what the average travelling fan numbers are please.
Skates put the numbers at 400 or thereabouts. Was always more during the 70's and 80's, just wanna make sure the numbers they quote are wrong. Looks and sounds like there is always a good turnout.

Yes they are miles off. We usually sell out our allocation, but depends how big that is, 1400 for Leicester or 3,000 at Villa for example.
Ask them why there were only 13,000 at the derby game. Their biggest game for years and they could only sell 2/3s of their tickets.
Also ask them why the big tough fans has to be given an escort to their own ground.

I can remember when the Monday report in the Echo always used to quote ground attendance and then in brackets put the number of away fans in. They don't do that now, although they did for the Leicester game (about 1400) I think or it may have been a mention that the away allocation was fully taken - but no mention that they could have sold a lot more if the club had asked for them as Wolves obviously did yesterday
My mate works at MK dons, he told me the real figure was actually more like 2,300 He also said that they stood there in silence most game only chirping up now and again singing songs about scummers.

It was their big away game of the season too. They always have one so they have something to boast about on the internet. Usually, they just take a few hundred to away games but they prefer that to be overlooked. They had 525 at Fleetwood just a week after that MK Dons game. They hardly ever sell out their allocations for northern games.
On average, our away support is more than twice as big as little Pompey's. Even when they were in the Premier League, their away support was usually the smallest in the league:

I remember in league one us taking 7,000 to orient both times, 6000 to Plymouth, 6,000 to Brentford, 4000 to Walsall and Oldham midweek, just off the top of my head. Plenty of others too

6,000 at forest for the third round, 9000 at fratton park, 5000 at Blackburn on a Friday night for a game on Telly and then 13,000 at Sheffield Wednesday for the quarter final also on Telly.

I'm told that a book shop owner in Petersfield recently admitted he had sold zero books in one day after previously claiming to have sold 4,000 a day for the last 20 years, he also sung some song about Waterstones in Above Bar closing down

I noted in his interview even managed to slip a sentence in about passion then, it’s like they are preprogrammed to link everything to it at every opportunity
I remember at game at Blackburn back in around 99/2000 time when we took 3,500, a year or so later Pompey played them at home in the cup and the total attendance was 2,700

No comeback from Prince Del Charming on his latest porkie pie then. Typical
A national website that covers more than 70 football league clubs, a national website with no allegiance to Pompey, a website with no axe to grind.
But your 'mate' says 2,300. Ok then, if it keeps you happy.
It makes no odds to me at all pal, just repeating what my mate who works at MK Dons told me, I don't care if you took 500, 5000 or 500000. Im not the one boasting about my teams away support on our rivals forum.

No boasting here, just making a general comment on a thread that is stating how tiny our away support is. Just more facts for you. It appears that I have facts, and you have spin.
Here is another fact, Pompey took 15,000 to Anfield in the early eighties, just thought I would mention that as apparently we don't do northern grounds. We also took 2,000 fans to Bolton this week. Not bad for a tiny club down south.

The thread is actually about our away following and you lot saying how tiny ours is. Cant help yourself can you.

i went to that game and there may have been 10-12k pompey there but no way 15K
your away support though resonanable numbers is a bit up and down only 1,180 to Gillingham on New years day a few days after taking 5k to Mk dons and 1800 to Bolton yet only 733 to Accrington
our worst attendances still over 1,000 for every game including 1,200 at Man City twice in a week following our 9-0 hammering form Leicester, our biggest problem is the allocation the club keeps taking eg Chelsea and Leicester which both sold out 34 weeks before game and yet we didn't ask for more tickets

I don't think many Pompey fans seriously think your club only take 400 fans on average to away games. For reference, Pompey took around 1,500 per game last season which aint bad for a club in L1
