Can’t help but wonder how they go about signing an experienced centre back in league two and we still haven’t addressed our defensive issues.
Surely he could have done a decent job at the back along side O’Connell for us. Probably chip in with a few goals a season from set pieces too.
Personally feel like this is the exact kind of player and experience we needed, especially in those times when you just need to shut the door and see games out.

Was thinking the same when I saw the signing. Only 32 which is no age for a CH & could have been what we needed. Still a month of the window left though so here's hoping for something similar

Peter Clarke just signed for Fleetwood (along with Matt Gilks),another player who would`ve been good for for a season unless BBM has summat in the pipeline.

Our concerns are immaterial we have to trust BBM to get the right man he would have been aware of the players availability. A genuine concern would be that we tried to sign them and the terms offered were rejected. Experienced players like those mentioned have at best 3/4 years left so they rightly will take the best offer put to them its a bit different with younger players who looking to progress in the game might choose us on lesser personnel terms because we have a track record of advancing a players career and wont stand in their way should an offer be made that suits both parties.

This is not the time for bickering.

We cannot compete on wages and are seen as a developmental club. I suspect that O'Connell had better offers elsewhere but sees us as someone who can put him in the shop window and who will let him go for a reasonable fee if he does play to his potential.

For older players location and manager may be incentives as they may be reluctant to move their families in the twilight of their careers, but quite often money talks! Maybe Oldham offered him more money? Maybe BBM does not rate him as being better than what we have? Or maybe we have someone else in the pipeline with a bit more pace, but we have to wait till nearer the end of the window for. I suppose when the Premier League and Championship windows close next week a lot more players may be available on loan.

"Probably chip in with a few goals a season from set pieces too."

One goal in the last two seasons. Though that goal was in the last game of the 2007-08 season, when two late goals kept Bolton in the Championship (the other late scorer was of course Aaron Wilbraham).

That was in 2017/18.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Sounds like BBM sees the wide areas as the place where we are short going off his prematch interview.

Poll: What are we more excited for?

He said at the fans forum that he is looking for a pacey wide player and is aware that we probably need to strengthen at centre half.

I hoped we might have a look at Wheater when the problems at Bolton became evident. The lack of a leader at the back has been apparent for years and his size and experience would have been invaluable. Good teams are built on great defences.

Thank God we're not desperate enough to go for Clarke. Nasty individual who would bring nothing at all to the team.

Horrible chap, his head butting of Calvin’s arm was a particularly loathing to do, so bad in fact he defended Calvin after the incident!
