The Real State Of Play... 20:57 - Dec 23 with 23896 views | Cleedale | OK, haven't posted for possibly years and haven't actually been to a game for about a year, BUT, used to, quite regularly, even though living a long way away. Home & family together with other 'life stuff' has eaten into the bug I used to have and afraid it isn't the priority in my life it once was. However, it still hurts to see poor results. So, without rabbiting forever, what's happening? Has the style of play been sussed by opps? Have we no longer the quality for Div 1 where I guess some mighty big budgets exist? Is Div 1 a difficult level to blood youngsters (btw, have seen the opportunities Dale give out in that area)? Are we panicking yet? (I'd see relegation as something that must be avoided at all costs - well, not ALL costs)! Or, are we just missing a couple of jigsaw pieces? Obviously a Jonah, Lambert, Dawson etc., I think we all know that Dale have had more than our fair share esp. in the last 10'ish years.

The Real State Of Play... on 20:11 - Dec 28 by rochdaleriddler | If we are looking at Perkins , I would be wanting to know if our scouting network actually exists |
Good point about our scouting network, I'm sure that we do have scouts and successful ones scouting for young players for or youth and academy, also they will report on our opponents from time to time however in terms of scouting for the first team then if they do then they aren't very good. How for example could you scout Slew? he wasn't under contract or playing when we signed him. Inman"s reputation preceded him Hill would have been well aware of his ability so no need to scout him. Many of Hills signings are based on contacts in the game or past knowledge of the player. Im confident Hill will know the players he wants whether he gets them will be down to money and availability, whether they will deliver and improve us is a bit hit and miss and one things certain, given our current position which is looking worse as the season goes on we cant afford to gamble on untried youth or broken toys. Now is the time to spend money not necessarily on transfer fees, a proven experienced striker or midfield leader who can boss a game, on a short term loan is imperative the defense will improve accordingly when goals are scored and created from midfield which has been the real problem all season.
| This is not the time for bickering.

Slew wouldn't have been scouted per se. He came on trial and earned his short-term deal that way. Hill would have also probably spoken to his contacts, such as Slew's former managers, team-mates, coaching staff, etc. I doubt we'll be seeing him again, anyway.

The point I was trying to make is Hill wont don't rely on scouts per se to tell him what he already knows, if he's in doubt which I doubt then his many contacts will tell him what he needs to know.

If you are there that is. I can, and will contribute, and in fact already have to the Match thread, without your approval or not, and licking my wounds, none to lick, never would have any wounds from you, of any kind.

The Real State Of Play... on 21:36 - Dec 29 with 2266 views | 442Dale | Can always tell when a good thread goes bad, because I'm all for going off topic with the odd bit of mickeytaking, but that feeling of bad creeps up and is akin to when we concede a corner. Without apportioning blame/being bothered why its happening, could it stop now? Thanks. To add to the subject: Monday is now the biggest game of Keith Hill's managerial career at Rochdale.

I agree. A poor first half, a decent start to the second and then the usual fade. Questionable line up again and Davies injured. Again. Monday will be very interesting indeed.

The Real State Of Play... on 21:48 - Dec 29 with 2210 views | 442Dale | Hill himself has mentioned when he first took over, so therein lies at least a possible solution: back to basics and removing the cloud of tactical thinking which we are all guilty of. Four-four-sodding-two (and no, I'm not normally a massive fan) Even then it's hard to pick a line up because of our distinct lack of pace and leadership, and that's why we require additions.

The Real State Of Play... on 09:03 - Dec 30 with 2001 views | RooleyMoorBlue | I would like to see us retain possession when we have a throw-in. I think this team is as bad as any I have seen at doing that. The number of goals we have conceded when losing possession from our throw-in is criminal, yet we do it week in week out. Henderson should never be put in midfield. He can`t tackle, his passing is poor and he doesn`t have the engine for it. We need to have more shots from outside the box. Too much of this tippy tappy keep possession football around the penalty area isn`t working, we`re not bloody Arsenal. Done and Hendo should be up top away from home and we should be looking to release them from deep, as we did a couple of years back and use their pace. That`s if Henderson can manage to stay onside. He is lazy where that is concerned. Only Cannon seems to show that this club really matters to him, the rest seem non-committal. No matter what division you are in, you need a ball winner and a leader in midfield, we have neither. Play players in their correct position. You can fanny about with them once you`re safe from relegation, not before. Play Kitching. He is better than McNulty et al, (yet he was undroppable(?)), in his preferred position and was allegedly MOM for the 3 games he did play, but has never played since, despite some dreadful midfield displays by nearly every player. Too many blue-eyed boys that are not under pressure to be dropped and therefore don`t play with any commitment. I could go on, but I think there is enough there to think about. Kitching has never been anywhere near a MoM Apart from that, i agree with most of what you say. The lazy way we defend throw-ins in contrast to the way our opponents challenge for the ball has irritated me for some time! We've usually had enough about us so it didn't matter, but now we're struggling these marginal differences in approach are hurting us, Bunney at Blackburn being the worst example On the subject of Bunney, i really don't want to see him back up front. Last night's selection and formation had a real whiff of panic about it, and that's fatal. The players sense it, so do we

More than half the team unnecessarily playing out of position at times last night. OK for experimentation in frendlies or meaningless cup games, but there are 3 vital points at stake in every league game we play now. Its just a recipe for confusion and disaster and I, like eveyone else it seems, simply don't understand it.
