Gomis Has Gone! on 20:59 - Jun 28 by monmouth | No mate. Gomis did his bit to save Monks and Clotets who Monk believed in religiously, sorry asses. When we had lost Bony, and surrendered 0-5 at home to Chelsea we were on the precipice. Gomis' goals, for want of a better phrase pulled us off. We finished 8th in the end, and his goals did that for us, getting us over the loss of Bony. I don't like the pouty frog mercenary pansy, but he doesn't deserve the ridicule and contempt. We did all we could to make him look shit, and that one miss against Arsenal ruined him imo. Tabanou was far worse, plus others that did nothing for us. We would happily pay 17m for Gomis goals from that season next season. After all we paid 15m for one goal from the baston. |
Fair points as always Mon, but on the precipice? When we lost to Chelsea on the 17th Jan we already had 30 points on the board! Nevertheless, I don't believe i've ridiculed him. He's a good player, but not in this league. £17m for that! No re-sale, no fvck all! Sorry, but our club cannot afford stuff like that. And that is why in my opinion he's been the biggest mistake financially that Jenkins has made. Surely Baston will prove to be the next.

Agree with some of that, but you can't really use Baston being terrible to justify him. Even as a free, he was worse value for money than any first choice striker we have signed, apart from Baston obviously. We were practically safe when Bony left. Gomis did end that season and start the next one very well, but he flopped badly for almost an entire season when it really mattered.

Yes my memory was playing tricks. We had 28 points from 19 games when Bony left, so pretty safe. I seem to remember a lot a twitchy arses after that Chelsea game, that's why I got confused. To be fair to the grasping offside Nancy, he at least knew where the net was. We didn't really play to his strengths either. His main problem in my eyes, was I thought he just wanted that extra touch, and in the pl that makes you an unreliable goalscorer. Anyway I'm certainly not weeping that he's gone, that's for sure.

Gomis Has Gone! on 21:25 - Jun 28 by dailew | His attitude was appalling in his last few games. Came on and sauntered around. Could have cost us relegation. |
Gomis was a strange one. One one side he scored some important goals and I agree he was wrongly used by some inept managers. He also proved in the right team with the right set up he can score goals. On the other other side there was the inept useless lump who seemed lazy and kept getting caught offside, who made my blood boil. I wouldn't be surprised to see him do well in Turkey

Gomis Has Gone! on 10:42 - Jun 29 with 1075 views | Highjack | Apart from the constantly being miles offside and taking 20 minutes to stroll back onside and all the falling over on his massive arse and the complete inability to control the ball or dribble or shoot or pass or tackle he's been a fantastic player for us.

Gomis Has Gone! on 10:53 - Jun 29 with 1066 views | jack_lord | Obviously a good player in his own head. What did the rest of the squad think of him? What is this nonsense with undisclosed fee? If it was £2.50, £250,000 or £2.5 Million surely it can't be that difficult to disclose.

BBC and Sky Sports reported it was £2.5mill which sounds about right to be honest

If that figure is correct then he hasn't been a complete waste of money. Marseilles paid a chunk and a loan fee as well as the 2.5 million reduces the money we paid out overall and he did contribute over two seasons.

He definitely did contribute and history shouldn't be re-written just because he had intermittent episodes of lazyitis. I seem to remember he won the top scorer award a couple of seasons ago with 10(?) goals. Yep it probably should have been more but the fact remains he scored more than any other bugger that year so he must have been doing something. Oh, and his winning goal from Ayew's curving assist against Man U at home was absofúckinglutely sublime.

Too many people are re-writing history the other way after a good season in a weaker league. Absence always makes Jack hearts fonder. He was a negative influence on our play for a long time, even when he chipped in with the occasional goal.

It reduced nothing. The transfer fee merely covered the final £2m of his £8m signing on fee.
