How long until he's fit though?

I would say there is room for both. Llorente probably isn't a 38 games a season player any more. Horses fro courses.

He only has a broken arm Tummer. It'd be great if we had both and both would make sense - a younger up and coming striker and an older hand as well - particularly both being Spanish. Llorente may help us get Baston. Who knows. It'd be most unlike us though.

Good to see them get 'real world' exposure, and I like Phil Brown too. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Might not be a failed medical. Could be we've shown an interest in him and they're trying to use him as part of a deal for Ayew. Speculation of course. [Post edited 4 Aug 2016 15:30]

Apparently he passed the medical, but wouldn't be ready for the start of the season, so they cancelled... Not sure if they'll go in for Baston now or if they'll just keep Berahino.

half the price of Williams if he goes, looks strong and quick and aerially good, could be a good shout

Transfer Thread on 10:35 - Aug 5 with 2833 views | giantstoneater | The price for Ash should be 15 million and Ayeuw, after Liverpool paid 25 million for Wjnaldum(?) I'd expect no less than 30 million for a goalscoring midielder crazy prices for a crazy market!!
Transfer Thread on 11:16 - Aug 5 with 2714 views | Daggyjack | Baston for £7 million being reported. Add this to £5 million for Llorente, a deal for Chadli and a deal for Mbidji (if Ash goes) and this turns into a very good window I'd say.

Mad how much could change in a week. Never seen that Mbidji (or however you spell it) play, but I guessing he can play a bit on the deck because he's played in midfield at times. Also from the videos looks decent at set pieces. Exciting times.

I don't get this Backup notion, surely we should play one or the other on merit. If Llorente starts well then Bprja works hard to replace him and vice versa. Having a said backup turns the player into and Eder or Gomis with Bony, where by they play 2/3 here and there and never get a consistent run to have an impact

Exactly....good teams need two quality strikers battling for the position or to play as a two up front if the need arises. Seems to be gathering a bit of pace this story....

How many good teams in this league work that way? Very few don't have a main striker that's practically guaranteed to play (when fit).

Off the top of my head: Liverpool - Benteke Everton - Kone Arsenal - Welbeck Man City - Bony Leicester - Ulloa Spurs - Chadli West Ham - Carroll Southampton - Long Chelsea - Remy Sunderland - Borini [Post edited 5 Aug 2016 13:49]

It's the same issue with central defence. We play the same two all the time, so our other players never get a chance to get up to speed and often struggle when they get a rare chance because of injury or a cup game.

Bony, Remy, Kone & Ulloa are all firm backup players. They're not in competition with Aguero, Costa etc. they simply fill in when necessary. Chadli isn't a striker. The rest I'll grant you, but two strikers trading blows is not a requirement of a good team at all. Plenty of good teams operate with a fixed pecking order.
