If Gomis is out for the next 3 weeks (As reports suggest) what would you do ? on 08:39 - Apr 12 by MattG
Yesterday's game shows why Emnes is never a striker - spent about 90% of the time wide on the left and, on the odd occasion he was in the centre and the ball went to him, he couldn't hold it up and it came straight back.
Another option could be to revert to the old 4-5-1 with Routledge up front and 2 of Montero, Emnes and Dyer out wide - a version of Laudrup's "3 Wingers" approach. Then play Ki and Cork behind Gylfi in midfield to add a bit more of a defensive shield.
Bit of a strange comment regarding Emnes - he was playing as a winger that's why he was out wide on the left. Siggy held his more advanced role. That's a bit like criticising Fab for never leaving his box. I'd like to see your second para happen tho - playing it through the wingers instead of the ball into feet of the striker, which is something we've only done since Bony joined us in any case.

The possible answers to this thread show how lucky we have been to get away with one fit or decent striker at the club.
Can't afford to do this again next season.
Partially agreed, although to be fair to the Board they did act quickly to bring nelson in as cover. We're just unlucky now that both strikers are knackered. As we saw with Gomis though it's not easy (or cheap) keeping good quality strikers as back-up.

It'll be Routledge. JJS hasn't got the first touch imo. Send some quick balls in to feet and he'll spend most of the game tripping over himself or fouling defenders. Might be a laugh though.

Have to agree to disagree - I didn't see much evidence of Gylfi (or anyone else) playing much more of an advanced role after Gomis came off although admittedly that was only on TV.
