That is just normal. If you have a pay rise you pay more tax.

Who is in government is irrelevant.

Correct Gwyn. Right choice ? After what the Tories did ? No question.

As you say, let's see what happens in year or two. Then judge

East Stand safety
at 18:49 26 Aug 2024

I suppose it's a bit late to be talking about this 19 years after the stadium was opened but yesterday's crowd reminded me of what it was like when we were in the PL.

If Cardiff supporters want to complain about the concourse in the North Stand they ought to try the East. At half time yesterday it was like being in a sardine can. The queue for the men's toilets was twenty yards long outside and inside it was absolutely rammed.

It made me think whether the stadium (at least the East concourse) was built to the correct safety standards.

There was a posh new camera fixed to the wall above that area. I wonder if any of the stadium management looked at the chaos there and even considered the question of fans safety.

You forgot to mention ohl his personal income of £4 million a year from Charles (us).

Why not look at it as him being on benefits. He has his rent paid plus has some cash for beer and fags. I wonder if he does any 'cash in hand' jobs like your average Joe. An interesting thought. No tax of course.

The difference of course is that his rent would be about £1 million a year. And his 'cash' is £4 million as I said earlier. And I daresay all his other 'benefits' (security etc) would be another couple of million.

So what we have is one utterly useless person who has absolutely no intention of ever doing a job, which might inject some tax into the running of essential public services, claiming benefits of £7/8 million a year

But then again why should he. He and his family have no need for the NHS. Or state education do they.

But of course this sort of comparison is never made because of who they are.

Very well said Gwyn.

I've often wondered why it's okay for firms to pay their workers such a low wage that they have to claim benefits while the firm is making large profits which go into shareholders and overpaid execs wage packets. In other words the Government, with our taxes, subsidise those firms profits. And when the workers say give us more the firm says we can't afford it and the Government says it will fuel inflation. And perish the thought that those workers may go on strike. How very unpatriotic of them. In other words know your place.

Another gem is that people say British people are lazy, that they won't do certain jobs. Working on farms picking fruit and veg is very often an example used. And the media, not to mention so many other 'normal' working people, join in the chorus.

A lady from Norfolk rang a radio phone in a couple of weeks ago about the fruit and veg question. She said who on earth do you think did all those jobs before farmers (and the same applies in many industries) dumped their British workers because they could get migrant workers to do the jobs for less. The British workers weren't lazy, the employers were greedy.

An example of the very rich people you mention Gwyn. Since 2012 workers wages have been reduced across the board substantially due to the financial problems in the UK, austerity and all that. Meanwhile one family have seen their wealth grow from £9 billion to £37 billion during the same period. And that family have recently been found guilty (in a Swiss court I believe) of maltreating their servants. Servants probably paid minimum wage i've no doubt.

I can't really think of a more corrupt system that allows this sort of situation to continue.

We certainly wouldn't have if we had another five years of Tory rule.

A bit over the top. That means less than 18 seats.

Last time they got 50% (30 seats). Next time they'll get maybe 25, if they're lucky.

According to the locals in Southport they are not locals. Many accents heard but not local ones.

If they were asked why they did it they would say the usual we want our country back. And they'd claim to be patriots. What they actually are is thugs, criminals. They are certainly not patriots.

A huge number of them will have been caught on camera and will hopefully be rounded up and jailed.

The Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
at 18:31 30 Jul 2024

Yes, but what is the point of any owner if all they do is cut the strength of the squad year after year which will eventually lead to relegation.

I don't expect them to spend loads of money because I want the club to survive but there surely has to be some sort of ambition otherwise what's the point.

I for one do hope that what they've been doing recently on the financial side is to prepare the club for sale.

Well maybe not 14 years.

But i'm willing to wait and see what she says she's going to do rather than base an opinion on what the BBC thinks she's going to do.

Or even what other posters think she's going to do.

LEAVING LAS VEGAS Inside the last tortured days of the Biden campaign
at 18:55 28 Jul 2024

I find it all incredibly strange.

They're right to have persuaded Biden to step down, however it was done. He clearly has real problems.

Then again, when Trump speaks it's hard to not think there's something wrong with him as well. He can barely string a coherent sentence together. But no matter how unintelligible some of the things he says are his adoring fanbase just lap it all up.

As I say, strange.
