Must confess to being very confused when Car Trouble, Young Parisians and Dirk wears White Sox merged into Ant Music. Really was a fan of the early stuff and couldn't quite get into what most of the female population of my school at the time were. That said I think he was a unique talent, visionary in places and clearly very smart and savvy about he wanted to do. After getting stiffed by Malcolm McClaren he surrounded himself with very talented musicians and came back stronger.

slightly jealous of you on this one mate, sounds like it will be a cracking gig.

I am looking forward to seeing From The Jam (basically Foxton, Buckler plus Russel Hastings in place of weller) playing the Setting Sons album at Shepherds Bush on 6 December. Ruts DC supporting (having met Paul Fox when I was in my early teens that will be interesting) also have a clash tribute band in support playing called London Calling.

Promises to be fun.

Tuchal. England!

Kinda of agree, kind of don't. Next in line from the production line approach to takeover from Southgate was Carsley. For all of the affinity/knowledge or the under 21's that he has, that doesnt look like it has necessarily convinced in taking over the senior squad through its transition.

Shame he wasn't given the next 3 games before a decision was made, but he hasn't convinced at this point, and handling of the media which projected some ambivalence towards taking the role substantively probably didn't go down too well. May have been clumsy misspeaking, but a bit careless.

That uncertainty would I am sure have been playing on the minds of FA who I suspect had sounded out informally a number of potential "rated" managers to see who would potentially be available and willing. Suspect that list was a short one, probably even shorter when Klopp decided he wanted more money in Germany working for Redbull with much less stress (albeit undying dislike from most German fans). Pretty sure Pep went nope as well. After that its a small selection of young English managers.

So whilst not my choice I can see the logic of why they have made the decision.

Eze not in the England squad
at 22:02 10 Oct 2024

Totally agree. Trouble is he wasnt a permanent fixture for Southgate and hasnt played for Carsley as a youth player. Got one game with Carsley to show what he could do and for whatever reason that didnt work in that one game.

What he brings though is completely different from the options that Carsley had today and creates different problems for defenders. A great option from the bench to change things. Fear he wont get another chance with Carsley in charge, but that said I dont see Carsley as being the long term option for England either. Like the idea of the continuity candidate who will progress from U21 to senior manager as he in theory knows most of the players well who he will be using. But that assumes Carsley is sufficiently capable at the next level. Tonight the Greek manager was tactically years ahead and made him look very average.

I agree that the choice of Beard was a poor one with hindsight. I can sort of see the rationale at the time, he has a good background in finance, venue and facility management amongst other things, and the onus was as much on the stadium initially. The problem was on the football side his inexperience was clear and he very much took orders from above, rather than trying to place his own views forward.

It does seem a much better set up now with professional management in place on the club management side of things. The shift to Nourry after the building of the training facilities seems to have been good timing, allowing him to focus on taking forward the area we were weakest on - player/personnel contract management and clear that Reuban and the board now in right place, allowing him to get on.

Hopefully now Marti and Xavi have confirmed planned longer tenure we can see the squad settle and performances start to gel (suspect return of Chair will still be the key).

Boxing AJ v Dubois
at 11:43 22 Sep 2024

Just baffling advice from his corner each round though, basically keep trying to walk into Dubois's over hand right. In the final knockout exchange AJ has finally landed punches but in doing so walked into the overhand right again. Insanity - honestly think corner had a lot to answer for in that performance, Dubois bangs, has a good chin but until last night isnt that disciplined and mobile. Basically move, do not get hit and start with the jab. Madness.

That said, fair play to Dubois, he definitely stepped up a level last night, kept to his game plan and was all over AJ from the Bell. Still think Uysk is a class above them all though on that showing.

Eze release clause
at 19:38 20 Aug 2024

If we are making these purchases it means that we have some degree of certainty of funds coming in. That means either that something is understood to be happening with Eze (still possible within the window, but seems unlikely) or we have some kind of agreement in principle on one or two of our players, which realistically means Chair, Clarke Salter or maybe Field? Might be we anticipate something from Paal, but not sure that adds up to what is needed. Other punt is that Cannon is now gone because of his unfortunate contract situation and the insurance money has paid out.

Otherwise not sure how we are funding this unless we anticipate the end of whatever FFP in the Championship is currently called.

LFW Marti Sit Down

I think he has seen this as an area that previously seems to have been problematic and so decided to close it down for now.

Things may get loosened after the transfer window closed and hopefully we are getting towards the position that he feels we should be in the league. Seems odd though to not be engaging as much as they could with the fanbase given how much that fed into last seasons great escape episode.

Longest number of years as a fan
at 12:53 12 Aug 2024

Started supporting us when I was around 7 years old as everyone at my school was a Spurs or Chelshit fan so wanted to be different. Increasingly drawn and kept on pushing to go, but my Dad (notionally a Derby fan) was put off taking me to see us after taking my brother (Southampton fan) to see Saints v Chelsea in late 70's and discovering what the knuckle draggers from Bermondsey were actually like. He swore off going to football again and so never got to go with my Dad before he died. Eventually got to my to my first Home game with mates against Wet Spam in 1984, evening game Loftus Road was beautiful under floodlights. 1-1 draw. I was hooked fully at that point.

Can see why we went for this lad on a perm over the Crystal Palace loan which probably will have cost more without us owning the asset.

Does very much feel like we have suddenly found some cash though. Wonder if it is because we have either had the confirmation that the Eze transfer is going through or alternatively we have sold Chair. Latter might explain Marti talking up Kolli this week ahead of today. If we resign Hayden on loan as well I think we will suddenly be a very promising team this season. He just gives that bit more mobility and control in the midfield.

I like him as player with lots of potential and causes goals (if not necessarily scores them himself) by his approach of speed and physicality. That said, I am not such a fan of his agent who seems to have spent every transfer window agitating for a move and putting out that big names clubs were interested in him. They weren't and its questionable whether the names that were eventually actually interested necessarily represent a massive step up (although prior to Cifuentes arrival probably looked better options for most players over us).

Wish him well, he tried for us and I think progressed - but not as much as I'd expected. Maybe another year or so under Cifuentes would have seen some greater improvements. But maybe not, given how high maintenance his agent is and the expectations they must keep putting to the player, this is probably best deal for all concerned. A 20% sell on fee looks like decent insurance for us as well.
