Our fans are shit
at 15:08 20 Oct 2024

Apart from last season I wonder what our home record stats have been from the end of the Puel era when we went quite a few games at the end of the season without scoring.
The team's recent home record in the Prem has been pretty dire in recent times and no wonder the crowd is less than enthusiastic.

Any one have the stats regarding home results in the Prem going back to the Puel days.
Its no wonder the atmosphere at SMS is subdued as, apart from last season, our home form in recent times has been dire, including an FA Cup defeat by 4th tier Grimsby.

I really hope that Roscoe is fit but I am concerned that he may live in a parallel universe.

Will Sport Republic Buy vacant Land Alongside St Mary’s Stadium ?
at 21:21 9 Sep 2024

If I was the money man at SFC I would be looking to do a deal with the Council to get hold of the Itchen frontage land when Cemex and Co leave the aggregate wharves.
It will happen some day and I have a sneaky feeling that discussions may be ongoing.

Southampton At Brentford The Damning Verdict

To be fair RM seems to have encouraged a tight dressing room mentality.
I guess that's great when you are winning but cracks will appear if the results continue to pan out as they are doing atm.

WTF happened to the place ?
at 13:52 2 Sep 2024

Nick,
You mention comparisons with Liverpool, Manchester & Leeds.
As you rightly say Liverpool was a real dump post war as the bottom of the city had suffered massively from bombing during WW2.
It was Michael Hesletine (part of the Thatcher Govt) who helped inspire redevelopment post the Toxteth riots helped by significant funding from the EU and UK regeneration budgets as well as an influx of Irish capital linked to local Scally redistribution of capital from the drug trade.
Also the Whitaker family buying the Mersey Docks & Harbour Board has released 100's of acres of prime waterfront land for development land on both sides of the Mersey
I was at Uni in Leeds and dont recognise the centre of the city now with all the influx of capital from the Insurance business and other service industries.
I'm not so au fait with Manchester but the money from Man City owners has helped galvanise investment and Any Burnham has done his bit as the Metro Mayor.
All three cities have more than twice the population of Southampton which has always suffered from being in the so called 'Rich South' and there unable to access money from the EU or Central Govt funding.

Point of order.
The 'Green Bus' Station at Marlands was used by Hants & Dorset (primarily rural services) and the occasional Wilts & Dorset to Salisbury.
It was the 'Coach' station located at Bedford Place, primarily used by Royal Blue services and other longer distance passenger services.

Third Round Draw

Speaking to my Everton supporting relatives on Merseyside, by common consent they reckon that although Everton's performances have been pretty poor recently , the club has been more or less given a bye into the next round

Who Is Off To Cardiff
at 19:39 28 Aug 2024

On the way back from Swindon this afternoon.
Saw 5 supporters coaches in convoy.
However think one was Dave's coaches en route to an overnight stay in Barry Island.
Think Nessa was in the front with a shotgun in case of trouble!!

Comparisons Between 2012 & 2024
at 15:47 27 Aug 2024

I reckon the Prem has improved quite a bit since we were relegated and is of a much higher standard than when we were last promoted.
All we can hope for is keeping hold of a fair few players who provide a decent core to help us compete next season back in the Championship

Goalkeeper Had Medical At Southampton On Monday

I think there is a problem trying to get an appointment within the NHS or finding a quiet time at A & E in Southampton or Winchester or may be Lymington at a pinch.

Same old, same old.

I suppose the good thing is collectively we have low expectation of staying up and actually scoring a goal!!
I want Russell Martin to succeed, as I am sure most/all of the Saints family do to.
However he needs to alter his playing style, as he did at the tail end of last season.
I think we have all been crying out for a central striker to provide options, ir in the Pelle mode, for some time.
The enigma that is Ross Stewart may have provided that option but as every week passes by, the chances of that happening reduces.
Che Adams wasnt that option nor is Cameron Archer, unfortunately.
Much as I appreciated Aribo and Smallbone's (and Fraser's) contribution last season, none of our midfield (apart from the excellent Downes, who will rack up quite a few yellow cards during the season) is anywhere near the standard of the Prem.
I would actually try to give KWP a try in midfield as he has the energy and ball retention to actually get the ball forward rather than sideways and backwards.

Was it Kicking off in Thornhill last night?
at 16:02 23 Aug 2024

Unfortunately it is not a new problem.

I can just about remember the Teddy Boy gangs and after that Mods and Rockers.

Going back in history there were razor gangs and those carrying chains and hammers.

However these were all lads of around 17 upwards whereas now kids. some just out of primary school seem to be walking around with a variety of weapons such as Zombie knives.

The sale of drugs is also on a scale never seen before and this adds to the problem.

Rosco could turn out to be more elusive than Perry Groves who played 15 games for us in 2 years after a relatively costly transfer from Arsenal due to ongoing injuries.
The way things are going Rosco could beat Perry's 'record'
